The after birthday post where I tell you that Anna got her ears pierced

January 26th, 2007

Mistake #1:  Do not wake younger sleeping child from nap to go get his sister’s ears pierced, even though he gets to go to Build-a-Bear.
Mistake #2:  Do not wake older Birthday girl child from nap to go get her ears pierced AND to go to Build-a-Bear, because even though it’s her birthday and we are going to get her ears pierced, and go to Build-a-Bear (BAB), then, after BAB we are going to eat pizza, sing Happy Birthday to her and open more presents,  when she’s been asleep for only 30 minutes and you wake her up for Birthday shenanigans, she doesn’t give a shit about any of that.  She.Wants.To.Sleep.

BUT, she has been asking to get her ears pierced since October, people.  October.
Here she is, getting already to go, she sat down on the chair, picked out the earrings she wanted, pink flowers, which are SO cute.

Here she is, getting the purple dots on her ears, I was getting so
excited.  I had been a little nervous up until this point, but once the purple markers were placed on her ears, I was feeling better.

And then she started to freak out.  No earrings, friends.  Just some freakin’ purple dots on her ears.  whatever.  I would be lying if I said I wasn’t frustrated, because I was. (am)  After 35 minutes, the two Libby Lu girls, (with rather high pitched voices) and Brian and myself gave up.  We went to BAB.  Then we went home.  With a pair of $34 pink flower earrings in my pocket.  bah humbug.Dsc04251

Sidebar:  I think it’s important to tell you that the girls at Libby Lu, the ones with the high pitched voices, did a pretty good job of trying to helpAriel get settled down.  But, what did not help was them trying to hide the ear piercing guns from her by hiding their arms to the side ofAriel’s chair, whichAriel was staring directly at.  I actually pulled the girls arm up and said "please don’t do that."  The other thing that was odd, was one of them, with the REALLY high pitched voice was tellingAriel it didn’t hurt.  Since when?  Since October, we have been telling her that it does hurt, so now Miss Libby Lu is going to lie and say it doesn’t.  She’ll probably be 35 when she finally takes the plunge and gets her ears pierced.  Which is fine with me!

Bummer about the earrings, but when she is ready, she will do it. Emma doesn’t have earrings either and I don’t believe she will until she is much older. I’m sure it will be peer pressure that does it.

Glad they had fun at Build-A-Bear!

Okay, so why did you leave with the earrings? Did the high-pitched voice duo make you buy them first? What a racket.

Sorry it didn’t work out. I was almost 12 when I finally got mine done…at a flea market (what was my mother thinking?). And they lied and told me it didn’t hurt too.

My pediatrician’s office actually pierces ears. You might check with yours to see if they do. It might be a more comfortable environment. Or not. . .

Glad everything else went well. . .

ahh waking the birthday girl on her birthday is always not a good idea. It makes it so much easier that Sam does not nap anymore.

We have a no piercing, tattoo and surgical alteration policy in our house.

Did they like BAB? one of my favorite places.

Oh, that’s frustrating. I hear you.

I don’t know what I will do about the whole ear piercing thing. I was not allowed to do it until I was 12, which I always thought was pretty arbitrary and stupid, but then, I don’t know what I will do if Lucy asks me to get her ears pierced at 4 or 5 or whatever. Not that I have a problem with it, per se…I just have to figure it all out, you know?

And I have never been to BAB.

That is to bad she didn’t get her ears pierced. I don’t think the girl at the store were very good at there job if they are going to lie to little kids.

Bless her heart! Thank goodness for Build A Bear. My eight year old just got her ears pierced last May when she was 7. Maybe Anna will warm up to the idea when she’s a little older. Hope you can take the earrings back and use them later : )

Well, what are you going to do? It’s got to be her time when she is ready I suppose. At least she got to have the BAB experience.

    I’m guessing around 6 or 7 is when she’ll ask again :)

This was so funny. At least you can take comfort in the fact that, although she turned 4 years old (Happy Birthday Anna! by the way), she is still your little girl :-)

I love the last picture of Anna hugging her BAB. SO adorable! You’ll have to post a close up of your new furry family members!

I give Anna an A for effort at LLs! I have yet to get my ears pierced… my excuse is sensitivity to metals ;)
