As parents, don’t you feel like you are constantly changing what your children are used to doing in order to maintain proper child development? For instance, switching from bottles to sippy cups, jar food to solid food, crib to big kid bed, and potty training. Things that can go well or, not so well, depending on your approach and/or the disposition of your child. Last night we began our latest battle. Getting four year old Ariel out of pull-ups at night.
Our Prodigy Potty-Trainer, Racecar, has done so well with potty training that he doesn’t even wet at night. He never uses a pull-up. Ever. It’s wonderful and easy and so so cheap.
Ariel on the other hand, has been potty trained for 15 months and still fills a pull-up at night fuller than you would not believe. It is true, we do give the kids milk and graham crackers shortly before bedtime, and even a sippy cup of water, in case they get thirsty at night. Since Ariel is not a big drinker during the daytime, I always felt comforted by the extra fluids she was receiving at night, it’s almost daily that I become worried about how many ounces of fluids she takes in or doesn’t take in.
In an effort to increase fluid intake, we have adjusted their meal time milk, we’ve increased it and laid down the law that no one leaves the dinner table without drinking their milk "ALL GONE!" We’ve also push quick drinks of water at the sink, she is just not one of those kids that will sit and drink a whole sippy cup while watching TV. Unlike her brother who could drink anyone of you under the table. Care for a challenge? (did I just challenge my readers to Sippy Cup Drink Off against my 3 year old son??)
So, last night, Battle Pull-Up began. Wasn’t really a battle, really. Ariel is feeling a little jealous about the praise that Racecar has been receiving for his morning dryness, so she feels ready for this challenge and quite frankly, so are we! Say it with me: NO MORE DIAPERS!! NO MORE DIAPERS!! SWIPER NO SWIPING!! oh…wait.
After taking her potty twice while she was sleeping, at 1:30am she woke up crying because she had an accident, I had already equipped her bed with towels to absorb some of the wetness. I believe she caught herself going and she did not wet through all that much. After that, we agreed to put a pull-up on her, the idea being to you know, keep it dry. And that she did. So, Round One, went pretty well!
Anyone else in the same boat? Anyone else experience the same thing? Tell me how you did it, would you? Are we on the road to success? Oh, I hope so.
On to other, very important news. You guys are the best, the comments you left about my lack of laundry folding made me feel so good! So good in fact, that it’s still sitting there. So, now it’s your fault. Thanks alot.
Today I’ll do it…okay…maybe tomorrow! Who am I kidding? We’ll just keep fishing the clothes out as we need it.
Also, say a little prayer for my dear laptop, she is undergoing some necessary cosmetic surgery later today and also receiving a new keyboard. Please pray she pulls through without complications, because, well, otherwise I’ll never see you again.
HAPPY SATURDAY!!
