Better late than never, right dawgs?

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007
By Beth

Okay, so I totally did not watch Idol last night.  Not because I didn’t feel like it, but because I was laughing and drinking with my girls at Mommy’s Group last night.  By the way, big shout out to Mommy’s Group, the girls who always read but never comment.  (except Lynette.)  So, holla.  I’m watching Idol now, in the middle of the day.  (3 cheers for good parenting!  HIP HIP!)   Seriously, it has taken me 45 minutes to watch the first three performers, so I should be done, you know, just in time for the results show to be over.

So, here is a quick and easy run down.   Just in case you care:

LaKisha–lovely, loved her dress and boots, but the boobs, those were distracting.  Not that I wouldn’t take a pair like that, I’m just saying.

Chris S–I love the Police, but I thought he was trying to sound like Sting a little too much.  I missed his voice in the song.

Gina–OMG.  She actually brought me to tears.  Maybe it’s the brain splitting headache I have, but then again, did you hear Simon’s reaction?  It was INCREDIBLE.  To think that 15 minutes ago, I didn’t care whether or not that song even existed.  Gina did something special to that song.  BIG PROPS.

okay, now I lost the remote.  seriously, it’s gone.  I found it!  It was sitting next to me.  I just heard Sanjaya was coming on, I already saw his picture on MSN.  I am not looking forward to this at all.  Where are my nachos?  I need something to throw at the TV.

Sanjaya–He’s dumb.  He forgot the words during his practice rounds.  I hate him.  freakin’ ugly rooster.  (Ariel just said "what’s on his hair?" and then she pointed at him and said "what’s that?"  I do not know dear, I do not know.)  Is his hair like that to take away from the fact that he can’t sing?  it’s not working.   awful performace.  Nachos have been thrown.   NEXT.

Haley–oh, bother.  I’m bored, but my Ariel just said "she has a beautiful voice.  Just like Ariel."  I like her dress, it’s awfully short.  You know, what would Paula say if Gwen hadn’t talked first?  She keeps repeating what she says.  I do like Paula’s bangs.  What’s that?  oh, it’s a singing contest, right.

Phil–I just heard he’s coming up and frankly, I’m scared.  don’t like him.  I have this thing about Sting and people covering his songs.  Sting is awesome.  Have you seen him with his shirt off?  OMG.  FLAWLESS.   sidetracked again.  Phil.  yeah, PHIL.  blah.  It is one of his better performances, I’ll give him that.  Okay, Randy just got done talking and Ariel said "why does he call everyone ‘dog?"  I bet it’s confusing for her, hearing someone call humans "dog."

Melinda–She sounds great, no surprises from her.  She looks adorable! (Simon does not know what he’s talking about) ROCK ON, MELINDA.

Blakey Blake–He looks so cute.  I’m liking it, but it’s quite slow and I’m finding myself waiting for him to beatbox.  and he never did.  oh boy.  Still cute, tho’, dawg and his voice was soothing.

Simon mentioned Chris Daughtry.  *sigh*  I love him something bad.

Jordin–She looks cute.  A little bit like Fergie.  She sounds okay.  She isn’t able to show off her big vocals with this song, but it was good.

Chris R–I liked it.  I have no real strong feelings on this performance.  His voice sounded good.  It was better than last week.

HOORAY!  IT’S OVER!  Tune in next week for Parenting 101.

My fave:  Gina  (I can’t believe I’m saying that!)
My least fave:  The Ugly Rooster

Whose going to leave?  no idea.

Works for Me Wednesday

Wfmwheader_4Okay, check it.

I have discovered the GREATEST MASCARA EVER.

You see, in my non-make-up world, I have very little in the eyelash department.  My eyelashes are not full and
they most certainly are not long.  Can you relate?  I’ve tried every kind of mascara on the market to help in that area and I have finally found the answer.Clq_6clw_250_3

Eyelash primer.  I discovered this product when I received the Clinique bonus time offer and since the first time I used it, I was hooked.  You apply the white primer first and then after a minute or so, apply mascara.  The primer actually builds to your eyelash before adding the actual mascara!

I totally and completely back the Clinique primer and mascara, but I know that most make-up companies carry this product, as well.   (oh and ALWAYS use an eyelash curler, okay??)

Look at you…lookin’ so pretty.

Feeling like we are doomed.

We have been enjoying some of the greatest weather.  Warmth, sunshine, slight breeze.  We just bought a patio set which means we can enjoy this spectacular weather while sitting, which makes it even better.

Now, living in this area, we natives know that to have eighty degree weather in March, just ain’t right, we break out our capris with caution and sandals, well, only one pair will be taken out of the coveted box o’ summer treasures.   We expect the cold to come back.

I am a Weather Channel GEEK.  I love it, I could watch it for hours and my siblings are the same, all five of them.  It’s because my father would sit in front of the only TV in our house watching The Weather Channel and the Cubs and that’s all we watched.  So, we became pros at timing the Local on the 8′s, and when exactly Jim Cantore would be on, and that you know if Bob Stokes said it was going to rain, well, by golly, it was going to rain!  (and going back to Jim Cantore, I always hoped he would report sans shirt, but it never happened, no matter how damn hot it was.  When we lived in Chicago, I can remember Jim reporting from Chicago during a blizzard on Wacker Drive and all I wanted to do was get in the car or hop on The El and get his autograph…or at least ask him to take his shirt off.  but I didn’t, cuz it was snowin’.)

The Weather Channel isn’t just on in my home (or in my sibling’s home) during local weather, but any severe weather in the country.  I can remember sitting on my bed the night before Katrina hit comparing The Weather Chanenl predictions of high pressures and winds for Katrina on TV with the strongest hurricane stats in history on my laptop.  I knew we were in for it.  And don’t even get me started on tornadoes.  Back in May of 1999, a record breaking number of tornadoes hit the Midwest, in Oklahoma, and I remember thinking that I was witnessing weather history, watching the menacing radars.  I remember silently praying for the people in the path.  May 3rd, 1999.  I day I will always remember.

So, today, in a much less dramatic warning, my desktop weather alerted me of a weather watch.  One that was much more annoying that it was dangerous, one that, frankly, pissed me off.  Here’s what it said:
A rapidly moving cold front will move into Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana this early afternoon.  The front will arrive in Chicago around 1pm.  The temperature will fall into the 40′s along the lake.  There will be an increase in clouds…drizzle and rain showers.

A temperature drop of over thirty degrees.  Just annoying.  As soon as I received the weather update I immediately thought about all my windows that are now opened, the shorts both of my kids are wearing and the guy coming out to give me an estimate on a fence at 2pm, just as the cold front has entered our area.

I better go ride a bike or play in the sandbox.
