Gutter Balls

April 25th, 2007

Yesterday I had a glorious day of not being a single parent and stay at home mom.  Brian fed the kids all of their meals and took them for bike rides.  I had lunch with my Mom, went shopping for an event Brian and I are attending this weekend, I purchased a beautiful pair of high heeled sandals, I went to Panera Bread and I went bowling.   Bowling as in Kingpin.  or as in gutter ball or as in I’m sore.  Because I went bowling.  I’m sore because I went bowling.  I can’t think of any statement that could be sadder except I’m sore from checking the mail.  Which is not true, the truth is, my back hurts, my arms hurt and my neck hurts.  What’s even stranger, and I hesitate to tell you this, for fear that you may not return, is that I still do not know which hand I bowl with.  My right?  or my left?

I am left handed when it comes to writing and eating, but essentially everything else I use my right hand.  Friends, this is not ambidextrous, this is deranged and quite frankly, it’s confusing.  When I told my mom that I was bowling with my Mommy’s Group, she looked at me, face filled with concern and said "but what hand will you bowl with?"  Like if I picked the wrong hand my nose might fall off.  And truth be told, no matter which hand I bowl with, I’m still a terrible bowler, my dreams of being a professional bowler have been shattered.   All thanks to hand confusion.

I can remember watching bowling on TV when I was little.  My parents were both in leagues, so they were a little interested in the sport.  I can remember thinking that it’s not really a sport because rolling balls?  Not hard.  No sweat + No dirt = No sport.  But after last night, and how I’m feeling right now??  It’s a sport, a very difficult sport that should be taken very, very seriously.   You know, come to think of it, I probably should have worn a thingy on my hand or a bowling shirt, I bet that would have increased my score to like NINETY or something.  The league-ers that were there took bowling very seriously because the group of Moms I was with were snapping random pictures at the "sight to be seen" event, but then an employee took our joy away and said the "league-ers" want the flashes to stop.  So, no pictures for you.  Hey, I’m mad, too.  I wanted to share some great pictures of my form, but I can’t, so get over it.  And yes, you are missing out.

Dsc06097
Let me ask you a question…what is this crap on my shirt?  It was clean and folded and I went to put it on, something was all over the front.  It does not have a smell.  And when I washed it, it came out looking the same way.  To say I’m disappointed would be an understatement, because it was one of a kind (purchased at Old Navy), and very expensive (six dollars) and it can never be replaced (except at Target, Wal-Mart and T.J. Maxx.)  So, if you know what it is and how I can get rid of it, please let me know.  I’m simply devastated about my loss.  oh and if you have an answer, let me know so I can dig it out of the trash.

For the love of God, stop looking at my messy hair.  I was in a hurry to take a picture.

geeze.

Updated:  And here is a picture of the shoes that so many of you nosey bossy people asked me to show you:

Same here – write and eat with my left, do most everything else with my right (including use scissors and bowl). I don’t think of it as deranged, I think of it as multi-talented. :)

That sounds like a great day (except for the whole hand confusion thing). I’m glad you had such a nice one. Oh, and where is the picture of the new shoes? We’re all girls here, so you know we want to see!

Ummmmmmmm, I hesitate to even guess out of fear of looking like an idiot, but could it be fabric softener? I’ll tell you why it’s my guess next time I talk to you. But otherwise, maybe oil from when you changed the oil in your car? It’s quite the mystery though. And your hand thing, you’re just a weirdo. lol. (Just kidding!)

Ok, you are cracking me up!!!! And the shirt thing…dang, that is weird!!! There is this stain remover that they sell at the Dollar Store here in Texas that gets out EVERYTHING – ink, blood, grass stains, etc. It is called “M30 Stain Remover” – anyway, you probably don’t wanna go the trouble of digging it out of the trash and all…but it might work. But, what the heck is it??

And glad you got some time to yourself..you deserve it. Hey, I’m a single parent (of only one child) but I know what you mean!!

I am so glad you had a day to yourself, dreamy. Sounds like you had a blast. Yeah, it is kind of pathetic to be sore after bowling…but I can relate! Girl, you put your all into that bowling, you mean business, obviously, if you’re working all those muscles so hard! Sounds like it would have been a riot to watch!

What is up with that shirt? That’s crazy that you have no idea what it’s from. I can’t believe you threw it away. I think you should wear it out for your “event” this weekend. Your new strappy sandals could really class that shirt up, ha!

Hi! I’ll pass on a wonderful little laundry miracle: regular ole’ dishwashing liquid, ie. Dawn, Joy, etc…anything you currently have sitting around the kitchen. Squirt it on, rub it in and let it sit for a while before you toss it in with the rest. I’ve found it works great about 90% of the time – even on those pesky “mystery” stains! Good luck!! :)

I can second two of the stain-removing suggestions here – Using Dawn or that M30 from Dollar General. Also, you could try sprinkling baby powder or corn starch on it very thick, and then let it sit for a while and absorb some of the (what looks like) oily substance.

Or just leave it in the trash.

    The shoes rock.

How funny that different people look at things differently! LOL Da Hubby does all things right-handed except for write. And, he thinks it’s a blessing since, when in a tough, small spot, he can just work his tools with the other hand! *wink*

My father is also left-handed, yet he bowls, throws darts and bats and golfs right handed. He told me it was because his older brothers were all right handed and they taught him to use his right hand for those sports.

    Funny, huh?

So, bowling was like a work out, eh? :) I hope the aches go away soon!

Well, I started laughing when I saw your picture! The same thing happened to me…. when I put this really nice Ralph Lauren shirt (bought at Goodwill for $3.50) into the washing machine it looked great… just needed to be cleaned. When I went to fold the clothes- there was a nasty LARGE spot! Argh! So frustrating…I stain “stuck” the spot and washed it several times and finally gave up! I threw it away! Good luck with your spot!

could the stain be oil? like vegetable or olive? i’ve had stains that looked like that before that turned out to be oil or grease. if so, i have no idea how to remove it :) that is my extremely helpful tip of the day!

    you’re welcome.

I’m always sore the first week or two of my league bowling so don’t worry about it, but the whole hand thing is just freaky…and very funny. I can see you standing up there looking totally confused. And aren’t some “leaguers” just snobs. Seriously. It’s just bowling.

I second the dish detergent method. It’s pretty cool.

It could be leftover detergent or fabric softener that didn’t rinse out for some reason. But I don’t really have a clue. Maybe a gnome did it.

I suck at bowling too. Rarely do I break 45. It’s sad really. You know what’s worse? I LOVE to go bowling.

I have that same stain on many of my shirts. It’s toothpaste and drool. From brushing my teeth while yelling, I mean, sternly admonishing the children, from the sanctity of my bathroom. :)

I miss bowling. I’m a very dangerous and violent bowler, so it’s just as well that I don’t do it anymore.
