The Best Laid Plans

July 18th, 2007

I had these grand visions of putting the kids down for bed, sitting down with my trusty little computer, blogging about the concert, eating nachos, all in front of the TV.  (which would be off because doing all of those things and watching TV would cause my head to explode.  Seriously.)

But Mother Nature had other ideas.  She picks the first night that Brian is gone to give us The World’s Longest Thunderstorm.  We are going on 97 minutes of the same storm.  NINETY SEVEN minutes of non stop downpours, thunder and lightning.  Which to me equals:

-light every candle I own, which is about 3,412 candles
-set up tornado station downstairs, complete with blankets and bottled water
-grab as many flashlights as possible, with extra batteries
-replace batteries in NOAA Weather Radio…just in case
-be sure to have empty bladder
-have cell phone ready
-have flame thrower ready to light more candles
-find  more candles

Stormy
Y’all think I’m kidding?  The problem is that barely two months I experienced a terrible storm, one they have just confirmed was in fact a tornado, one mile from my house.  I think I have post traumatic stress disorder. I’m sorta kidding, but I’m sorta not.  You should feel my stomach, it’s in total knots.   It doesn’t help that Brian isn’t here.  Not that he necessarily calms me down, it’s just that I feel like a total nut job gathering all of these items, lighting all of these candles and potentially wasting batteries that he purchased, (but maybe I’m not wasting them…who knows??!?!) I think I would have lit about half of the candles, if he were here.   Either way, I need this weather to end.  I appreciate the rain so much, but this is just too much.  We have a severe thunderstorm watch until 3 a.m.  Like I’m going to be able to sleep while there’s a severe thunderstorm watch.  And what’s worse is that I’m home alone with my kids tomorrow ALL.DAY.LONG and I’m watching my six year old niece and my eight year old nephew.  I need my sleep. or a drink.  I can’t decide.  Maybe a drink would help me sleep.  Now I’m thinking!!

Oh my, I think we just went 2 minutes without any storm activity, could it be ending?

There are some benefits to this storm…I can watch Jim Cantore on the Weather Channel with a purpose and not just to gawk and my house smells delicious.

I think this storm may be over, I better get to work blowing out these candles.  Should only take me until morning.

ERR

July 18th, 2007

Is it a good sign or a bad sign when I step on the scale on my weigh in day and this is what it reads…

ERR.

I’ll take it as a good sign.  A sign that I lost so much weight that my scale broke in shock, disbelief and pure pride for it’s only user.

or whatever.

I have lost a considerable amount of weight since last Wednesday.  FIVE POUNDS, PEOPLE.  FIVE ROCKIN’ POUNDS.

However…I’m still up almost four pounds from my low four weeks ago.  Which means I have gained in total…let’s see.  carry the four, divide the seven, subtract the nine, multiply by six, take the radius and divide by nine.  A total of ELEVEN BILLION POUNDS.

You do the math people, I gained a TON of weight.  So, much that I can’t even say how much to you because it’s crazy.  But seeing as how I have lost five pounds of it this past week, I’m not sure how much of that gain was actually trying to attach itself to my thighs or was traveling around in my body for fun.

Who knows?  Either way, I have a lot to do today.  My sister and her kids are visiting and Brian is going out of town for six thousand days (or until Monday) so I need to clean my house RIGHT NOW and get ahead of the game.

But most importantly, I need to work off the four pancakes I just ate.

Works for me Wednesday

Wfmwheader_4I can’t believe I haven’t shared the greatest tablecloth in the world with you!

I had been hesitant to purchase a tablecloth because I figured I would be washing it after every meal because of spills and who wants to waste their time doing laundry?

But then I found this tablecloth that is actually SPILL PROOF!  SPILL PROOF, I SAY!  When you spill anything on it, the liquid literally beads up and you can wipe it away and it’s like nothing spilled at all.  It’s very sci-fi or magical.  or something.

See, here’s proof:
After the spill.  See the beads and the spill just sitting there??  And yes, I did spill something JUST for this picture.  Because I can!

And after the spill clean-up.

In case you’re wondering and I’m pretty sure you are, I purchased my tablecloth here.

This tablecloth also washes and dries wonderfully, which totally works for me!

To go, or not to go. That is the question.

July 16th, 2007

And I’m hoping you all can shed some light on this topic for me.

But, before I get to that topic, I’m in a horrific mood.  It’s not because of what you said about me last night to your husband, I can forgive you for that.  It’s because we just dropped off our minivan to get new brakes.  We were driving away from the Brake Store when we realized that this means we only have one car and having one car means the chickens and I will have to get up at the CRACK OF DAWN to take Brian to the train station.  I have to work out of town tomorrow, I need to drop the kids off in the morning, after dropping Brian off at the train station, in an entirely different direction, then head in another direction even further to work.  Then I need to go back, pick the kids up and head back to the train station, which by the way, is in Gary, Indiana.  Which is just a lovely place to visit.

So, to make myself feel better about all of this driving tomorrow, which I figure to be about seven point two hours, I decided we should probably just head to our nearest Dunkin’ Donuts, which isn’t all that close, so I can not be so tired and grumpy.

Brian is no fool, he can see my grumpiness and recommended I drive there as quickly as possible.

So, I did.

I ordered a "coffee with cream, no sugar."  I couldn’t hear the girl’s response because apparently she didn’t realize you need to hold down the button the entire time she speaks in order for me to hear her, so in an effort to get my coffee sooner, I just pulled up, grabbed my crack with cream and headed home.

We then proceeded to put the kids down for their naps and then we cleaned up from a weekend of toys and craziness.  I timed my coffee perfectly, thinking that as soon as I finally sat down, the coffee would be ready for me to gulp it down.

I walked towards my coffee and I said, out loud, "oh yeah, baby, come to MAMA."  I did, I swear!  I took a drink and there was sugar in it.  Which to me is like adding vomit to my coffee.  And for you sugar adding coffee drinkers out there, who may not understand, consider drinking coffee without sugar.  Couldn’t do it, could you?  Except if you were to get a coffee with just cream, you could always ADD the sugar, where I can’t take the crap out.

I became very angry, so angry that I began doing dishes that have been sitting around for way too long in my sink.  So angry that I wiped down my counter tops, so angry that I went back to Dunkin’ Donuts, which isn’t all that close to my house and took my damn ruined coffee back and demanded a fresh cup with just cream, NO SUGAR and they did and they apologized and gave me a new cup.  (by the way, I did not demand, I was surprisingly friendly, because everyone makes mistakes, right?  It’s called karma.)  Anyway, I came home and noticed my clean dishes and my clean counter tops and that made me happy…ier.

I sat down, took the lid off and let my coffee sit and cool for a minute, took a sip and it tasted like crap and looked like this.

I know what you’re thinking, it looks like mud, doesn’t it?  It’s not mud, it’s just CRAP IN A CUP WITHOUT SUGAR.

So, now I’m drinking my homemade coffee and it delicious.  Thank you very much.

On to my pressing issue, my burning question for you bloggers out there…
Are you attending Blogher?
If not, do you understand that there will be brilliant bloggers like Izzy and Ree there?  Ree will be speaking, REE!!, DO YOU HEAR ME???

Would you be attending if you only lived one hour from the conference?  A train ride, if you will?  If you didn’t have to miss work, would you go?

Because that’s me.  I don’t have to work those days, it’s a train ride away and Ree will be speaking and bloggers like Izzy will be there.
Should I go???? or should I stay home and save over $200 on the registration fee?
Please help me readers.  Help me decide.

P.S.  The concert was great, I will blog about it as soon as I get some pictures to add to the riveting post!
