A giveaway!

November 11th, 2008

Who wants to save money?

ANYONE?  An easy way to save money is by simply installing a programmable thermostat.  And THAT is what I am giving away!

More specifically,  I am giving away a programmable thermostat from Home Depot!

What’s the benefit of a programmable thermostat?  I’ll tell you in their words, not mine because they are much smarter than me.  At least when it comes to thermostats, I probably know more about nachos and ice cream, we make a good team, Home Depot and I.

A programmable thermostat monitors the temperature of your home while you’re asleep or away. For example, the Rite Temp 7 Day Programmable Thermostat, an ENERGY STAR-qualified thermostat (pictured below) offers temperature programming for every day of the week.  And the RiteTemp Flush Mount Thermostat appears flush with the wall when mounted. It’s unique touch screen and easy to read back lit screen offer another type of look for your thermostat.

Programming is extremely simple. You can program the thermostat to change the set point at any time, allowing you to automatically set temperatures for different times of the day. During the winter, you can keep the house cooler while you’re at work and program the temperature to warm up when you arrive home.  This programming feature is estimated to save about two percent on heating bills and more than three percent on cooling bills for each degree difference. These numbers will translate into cost savings of up to $180 a year and is well worth the time replacing your thermostat will take.

What do you need to do to win?  Just leave a comment telling me ONE THING you love about winter, right here on this post. One entry per participant, winner will be chosen by random.org.  Comments will be closed on Thursday, November 13th at 9 p.m. CST.  Winner choose which thermostat they want!

Please make sure you leave a valid email address!  (open to US residents only.)

Best of luck!  THANKS, HOME DEPOT!

I love opening my blinds and seeing the snow outside. I love seeing the snow fall at night. I love putting up the Christmas tree just because it is calming to sit at night in just the glow of the lights. I like the creaking of the snow under tires when someone is pulling into the driveway. But I live in an area that gets 30 degrees below zero weather December through February so I also love to see it go :) !

I love that in winter my kids are more mine and don’t really HAVE to have a friend to play with every minute of every day. They are more content – maybe because it gets dark faster and they think that bedtime is like any minute.

I need a new thermostat for the upstairs of my house. I replaced the main level and it lights up but the upstairs one is old and doesn’t light up and that totally stinks at 2:00 in the morning when you are cold. Pick me.

I love that, in winter, it’s perfectly acceptable to put on your fleecy jammie pants at like 4:30 in the afternoon and wear your big oversized college sweatshirt with the snarled sleeves and hemline to keep warm.

I was just thinking that we needed to upgrade our thermostat!

I’m not really a fan of winter, but like Lisa, I love me a true snow day. I hate it when it lingers and I have to deal with it, but the staying home all day is awesome.

And I’m totally not being selfish. I have a programmable thermostat (gotta love the people who owned the house before us…they installed really nice things for us), but my mother-in-law totally needs one of these.

I love when it is gray and overcast on a Sunday afternoon. My husband is sitting on the recliner watching football, the kids are else where and I am tucked under a big thick blankie reading an equally thick book.

    Beth,

I am struggling to think of 1 thing to even like about winter. I do not like being cold, don’t like to ski or skate, and wish it didn’t get dark out so darn early.

But, I do enjoy the occassional times when it really snows. The days that there is no question, “I am not going to work today” snow. Hot tea, big breakfast and cheesy daytime tv, all guilt free!

This is really hard. There is not much about winter that I enjoy, much less LOVE. So, after careful consideration, the ONLY thing I can think of that I love about winter is…… crawling in to bed when my hubby is already there, all warm and toasty… and putting my COLD FEET all over him! :) hehe

This is hard for me, considering I am NOT a winter person; I’m a warm, fresh air and sunshine person. I can tell you my LEAST favorite thing about winter, and that would be driving on icy roads. One accident on an icy highway has made me a total wuss when it comes to driving in the snow.

I guess if I had to pick a favorite thing, it would be playing in the snow with my son. And then coming inside to warm up with cocoa. Mmm.

What I love about winter is……that Christmas in in Winter………it’s not the presents I love- it’s the giving and getting family together. It sounds corny and I can’t believe I’m now “old” enough to appreciate that – but every day I get with my WHOLE family is the best. Those are the memories that I will and my children will have forever………

    Thanks!

Oh goody, I made it before 9:00pm. I love winter time. My favorite part is sitting in front of the fireplace with the curtains opened watching freshly falling snow and sipping hot chocolate with mini marshmellows. I love holding my 2 doggies in my lap all snuggled up and looking at the burning logs and just relaxing while hubby adds more wood. It’s the simple pleasures of winter that make me happy. I would love to win this awesome energy saver…Thank you so much Home Depot! and Beth!
