A giveaway!

November 11th, 2008

Who wants to save money?

ANYONE?  An easy way to save money is by simply installing a programmable thermostat.  And THAT is what I am giving away!

More specifically,  I am giving away a programmable thermostat from Home Depot!

What’s the benefit of a programmable thermostat?  I’ll tell you in their words, not mine because they are much smarter than me.  At least when it comes to thermostats, I probably know more about nachos and ice cream, we make a good team, Home Depot and I.

A programmable thermostat monitors the temperature of your home while you’re asleep or away. For example, the Rite Temp 7 Day Programmable Thermostat, an ENERGY STAR-qualified thermostat (pictured below) offers temperature programming for every day of the week.  And the RiteTemp Flush Mount Thermostat appears flush with the wall when mounted. It’s unique touch screen and easy to read back lit screen offer another type of look for your thermostat.

Programming is extremely simple. You can program the thermostat to change the set point at any time, allowing you to automatically set temperatures for different times of the day. During the winter, you can keep the house cooler while you’re at work and program the temperature to warm up when you arrive home.  This programming feature is estimated to save about two percent on heating bills and more than three percent on cooling bills for each degree difference. These numbers will translate into cost savings of up to $180 a year and is well worth the time replacing your thermostat will take.

What do you need to do to win?  Just leave a comment telling me ONE THING you love about winter, right here on this post. One entry per participant, winner will be chosen by random.org.  Comments will be closed on Thursday, November 13th at 9 p.m. CST.  Winner choose which thermostat they want!

Please make sure you leave a valid email address!  (open to US residents only.)

Best of luck!  THANKS, HOME DEPOT!

I love the holidays, and hot chocolate, and snuggling up under a warm blanket. I love the way the house feels so warm and inviting inside after coming in from the cold. I LOVE everything about winter. (of course I live in Central Texas where it isn’t really that cold. (87 degrees today) I did however grow up in a very cold area of Texas where we had a lot of snow and ice and I STILL LOVED winter!

The thing I love best about winter is hot chocolate. With marshmallows. The mini kind, not the regular size, and a mini Hershey bar melted in. Who doesn’t love an excuse to drink chocolate?

I’d have to say going out in the morning and playing in the snow with my family. And then coming in to warm up and have hot soup and grilled cheese sandwhiches. Perfect way to start the day, I couldn’t imagine not doing it!

I love winter in Houston because it’s cool enough to need blankets on the bed and long sleeves, but the kids can still play outside without being unbearably cold.

My favorite part of winter is spending time with my husband and kids. During the winter, life calms down and we get to relax and enjoy each other. Eating supper together, playing card, video games, board games, and watching movies. I guess now I see why I put on so much weight during the winter–we become LAZY!

Hope and pray that I win the prize. Have been wanting one.

Praying for you and your family.

I will bundle up with my husband and boys and enjoy a game or watch a good cartoon with them. Special moments with family, aaaahhhh.
