Coldly

January 30th, 2009

I was watching The Weather Channel yesterday, which I do for fun because it’s awesome.  There was a woman from Arizona being interviewed about her feelings on winter and she said something like “I love winter, I think it’s the best, it’s awesome.“  And she was wearing a cute hat and had on a  thin coat and when she talked, you could not see her breath, which meant it’s not cold at all, in fact, let’s just consider it summer.  I threw my shoe at the TV, starting booing and turned on Hannah Montana.

Am over here discussing winter today.  Come join me, k?

Umm.. I live in Arizona..and I WISH it was colder. Then again I am nine months pregnant with hormones surging thru my body and I am constantly hot….
But I do only walk around in a fleece sweater when I am cold. Which is not very often. It’s supposed to hit the low 80′s all next week. UGH.

    Sorry :)

    Arizona? Winter?

To her I say, “Honey, my winter eats your winter for breakfast.”

That sounds like the end of September around here..

I was in AZ over the weekend visiting my inlaws,in a Phoenix suburb. DO NOT THROW A SHOE AT YOUR SCREEN. It was in the 70s, and the coldest morning it was 62 degrees. And yes, they wear jackets and sweatshirts in 60 degree weather. But it is a 50 degree drop from their summers that are often over 110 degrees, so maybe that is how they justify it.

I hate when they show people in FL wearing long sleeve shirts because they are SO COLD and it is 50 out. I threw my pillow last week, when it was -22!

It’s 63 degrees here right now. Do you want to throw your shoe at me? It was 19 this morning, so do I get a shoe pass for that? I’m not wearing a coat or sweater :)

You should just come visit. Then you can stay because you’ll never want to leave. That’s okay too, because Brian can box up your stuff and mail it.

I spent three hours at the park today with my kids and my best friend and her kids. When we got too hot, we had to move our chairs into the shade. Aaahhh, winter in Southern California. But, sometimes, a deep, dark twisted part of me, misses the snow, and the seasons.

Here’s the thing. When you go through summers of 110+ degree temperatures, you feel cold when it’s 60 degrees. (I wrote more about that here, if you’re interested: http://tinyurl.com/atsfzw.)

You can boo at us now if you want. But that means we get to boo back next summer when people up north are whining about 85-degree “heat waves”. (Please.) Some nights in Phoenix it literally never gets below 100. (Local ABC station’s article on the heat: http://tinyurl.com/akt74u.)

And in September, when it still hasn’t cooled off, and I’m on my couch, dripping sweat and exhausted from being out in the oppressive heat, they’ll undoubtedly have a reason to interview some woman in Indiana or thereabouts and it will look a little chilly. Maybe the leaves will be brilliant fall colors. Maybe she’ll wearing a sweater and a cute little hat. You might even be able to see her breath. That’s when I get to throw a shoe back atcha.

    I think it’s only fair, right? ;)

I live in Toronto, Canada and the winter this year is absolutely ridiculous. WE have had more snow storms than we
ve had in years, and the cold is just unbearable.
Your face will definitey freeze after only being in the cold for a min or two.
I love the snow but i hate the cold. I think Dubai has it right!!!!!
