Hi friends, Happy New Year!  Thanks for all of your questions, you are keeping me VERY busy!  Let’s get started, shall we?

My friend Laurie starts us off today with a few questions:  I could ask a typical holiday question, like what is your favorite present? etc., but I won’t.

What is your pajama style? Are you a nightgown girl or long pants, flannels perhaps? I am technically not a “real” pajama girl.  I don’t like being hot or restricted, so I sleep in capri yoga pants and a t-shirt like this one.  In fact, I’m wearing said outfit right now.  Don’t judge man, it’s New Year’s Day.

Also, because it is 2 p.m. and I need sleep, do you use an electric toothbrush or not? I don’t typically use an electric toothbrush.

Oooh, pillows – feather or synthetic? Synthetic.  A very flat, synthetic pillow.

Sandi asks: With your new photography business, do you have a mentor that is helping you figure out how to do things? business wise? (or maybe you already know that stuff) and do you have an advice for wanna be photographer about what to do to start up this kind of business? I do have someone, Amanda, who has helped me quite a bit with printing services and other pieces of invaluable advice, etc.  And then my friend Debbie has offered some tips, too.

In my opinion, the most important thing for anyone who has an interest in photography is just to practice and try new things.  Also, I always took pictures for my friends, for years.  It was fun for me, good for my friends and wonderful practice.

In the Fast Lane wants to know:  Do you like your new neighborhood? I do.  It’s quiet and during the summer, late at night, we can hear cows mooing.  I love that.
Have you met my friend Christi? I have not.
How do you manage to balance so many things (this blog, other writing, blog design, photography, motherhood)? I do a lot of things, but I don’t think I do a lot of things REALLY well, I just half-ass it, that’s how I can get so much done.  Also, I hired a cleaning lady and that was among my best decisions in 2008.  And my husband has been grocery shopping for me once a week and that’s helpful, very, very helpful.

My home girl (yes, I said home girl…shhhh….) Shantel asks:  Where is your vacation house at? We are in Northwest Indiana, right on Lake Michigan, it’s perfectly freezing.

What things do you have in store for 2009? Gosh, I don’t know, I just want it to be a simple year, I am planning to attend Blissdom in February in Nashville.

Any family vacations this year? None planned so far.

What is your greatest memory as a child growing up that you hope to pass on to your children? Waking up on Sunday mornings and lounging in our little living room, all eight of us.

Christy says: I am wondering how you got to be such a great photographer. Did you take classes somewhere, or is it just something you have practiced and fiddled around with? I am always in awe of your photos.

Well, this question makes me blush because the fact that anyone thinks I’m a good photographer is just unbelievable to me, but thank you.  I just practiced.  And practiced, I typically take about 1500-2000 photos a month, every month.

And my real life friend, Nancy wants to know:  What are your favorite holiday traditions? I think my favorite is waking up on Christmas morning and watching the kids see their gifts for the first time.  Also, every year, my cousin makes almond tea ring that my Grandma used to make us before she passed away.  I can barely sleep thinking about eating that almond tea ring.  Are there ones from growing up that you have passed on to your family now?  TEA RING!

Did Ariel and Racecar get what they wanted for Christmas. Are they having fun with all their cousins? They didn’t really ask for anything specific, well, Ariel asked for an Easy Bake Oven but it’s for ages 8 and up and she’s six, so Santa didn’t bring it.  She was okay with that. (I think).  The kids are having TONS of fun with their 15 cousins, we have barely seen.  I miss them terribly, I don’t think they miss us very much at all.

Aimee asks:

I’ve really been wanting to know how your photography business is going.  Did you stay busy taking pictures for lots of families during the holidays? I stayed pretty busy, not extra busy which is good because I’m not great at taking indoor pictures right now and I’ve been a very busy with everything.  I’m very glad that I started my business when I did, because we have spent the last five weeks becomes a legal entity, opening accounts, etc.  I’m very, very excited for the spring to come to see where Beth Fletcher Photography goes.

When are you coming to Texas? Since my best good friend, Christy lives in Texas, I’d say there is a 90% probability that I’ll be coming to Texas in 2009!  I think we should have a big ol’ Texas party, don’t you think?

PHX Mama wants to know:  Shallow question ahead: What was your favorite xmas gift that you received this year? Please note my caveat of “shallow”: this must be a material, physcial gift that you recieved. Describe it in explicit detail for us, so that we can vicariously receive this gift, too. (Er, I think I’m in teaching mode….)

This is such a great question.  Not shallow AT ALL.  My favorite Christmas gift I received this year was an iPhone, it’s beautiful, shiny, smart, cute, fun and is my best friend.  We’ll be together forever and ever and ever.  Amen.

Tracy asks: What is YOUR favorite childhood memory (whether from the holidays or from any time of the year)? I loved playing outside until dusk during the summer.  We’d come in all sweaty and exhuasted, sometimes we’d come in and our Mom would give us ice cream cones.  We had a great childhood.

and then Tracy asked (the same Tracy, maybe?)  Tell us about your best friend growing up (childhood & adolescence)? What made this person so special and why do you think you connected? My best friend growing up was named Laura.  We lived down the street from each other and had so much in common.  We ALWAYS laughed and acted so silly, we loved the same foods, the same things, we still keep in touch and she’s still hilarious.  My entire family absolutely loves her and I love that.

That’s it for now!  I’ll be back for more!
