Breakin’

March 12th, 2009

Did you ever see the movie Breakin’ with Ozone and Kelly and Turbo?  It was awesome.

Well, not really awesome.

It’s a classic.

No, no it’s not.

Anyway.  Racecar has pneumonia which is so terrible but he had a big round of antibiotics earlier today and I can tell that he’s already feeling better.  The poor child has been coughing all night long for the past three nights, so we are hoping that he’ll get some much needed relief AND SLEEP starting tonight.

And hey, if I can catch up on some sleep tonight, too, well, that would be much appreciated because I.AM.SO.TIRED.

We have big plans this weekend (with the doctor’s approval) so I won’t be writing after tonight until Sunday or maybe Monday.  A nice, big break is in order.

In the meantime, can you guys do me a favor?  I’ll still have my iPhone with me during this break of mine, so I’d love to learn something about you.  Can you tell me something like what your favorite kind of food is or what you’d love to do if money were no object?   or tell me this: if you could do anything professionally right now, what would it be?  Maybe just tell me your favorite color or your favorite song?

OR…tell me who you think is going to be voted off of next week’s Idol.  You can even tell me who you can’t stand.

And if you’ve never commented before, this is a great time for your first time, don’t you think?

I can’t wait to hear from you.

    O Girl.

So. Sometimes the only think that gets me to go to Body Pump class at the gym is knowing that during the cool down they might play Chasing Cars. Because I love that song. And I know it is very 2006 and I can’t hear it without thinking of Izzy in her pink prom dress after Denny died. But still. Love that song. Totally worth the 55 minutes of sweaty squats to hear that song during the cool down.

or. I could just listen to it on my shuffle at home. But its not the same.

Poor Racecar! I hope he feels better soon.

If I had a do-over in life, I wish I’d gone to culinary school instead of a four-year college. I love to cook because it’s a quick and tangible accomplishment that brings joy to people. I wish I were a better cook but I’m thankful that my husband never complains. (And he’s willing to eat leftovers that my kids refuse.)

I thought of you last week when the painters started working on my house. We had chosen Restrained Gold for the wall color, which is what you put in your kitchen, right? But for some reason it looked BAD in my house and the color made my blood pressure go up. So we can to pay for a new color and another day of labor, but it was worth it.

wow–not sure how I got here. Up at 330am again due to two year old molars and started googling : )
I enjoyed checking out your blog. Had to answer one of your questions because I just nailed it down over the past couple weeks as I was thinking that there should be something easier to do other than mothering : ) My superpowers are wearing thin these days.

Always wanted to illustrate childrens books and a couple other things I want to try out just to see what they are like, bartender, Barnes and Noble, beautician and school bus driver for special needs kids. Nothing fancy, not a lot of money but for some reason I have always thought when leaving the people that do those jobs, ‘huh, wonder what that would be like’…..

    Well, since you asked…

I don’t have a specific favorite KIND of food but I do love a good peanutty pad Thai with cucumber salad. I do not like pork or fish or beef usually. If I could do anything professionally right now I would have my whole house made over. And if you meant as a job or dream career or something, I’d be in a play or musical on stage somewhere. My favorite color changes day by day. And I posted a hilarious video of Ivy getting her groove on today to one of my favorite songs lately- Hey Ya covered by Obadiah Parker.

And I am wondering why I don’t know about these big plans.

Poor Racecar!! I hope he keeps feeling better. Hubby had the nastiness this summer (who gets it in the summer…my hubby) and it was not a good time.

There are days that I wonder if working is the best thing for my kids. Sure they are in school everyday, but I can’t volunteer once a week like so many parents do. I can’t’ run to school at the drop of a hat to help out. I know almost nothing about what is going on, and so many other parents are there all the time. It stinks, but money seems to rule our world. blah

If money was no issue… I’d buy a couple hundred acres somewhere and build a log house on it to live in. And I’d take a trip to Italy.

I like all kinds of food, I never can pick a favorite.

Professionally – I love what I do, I’m a graphic designer. But I do wish I had a better camera and the time to take some really awesome pictures too.

I hope Racecar gets better soon and you have a great weekend – enjoy your break!

    Hope Racecar gets better soon!

Favorite food: Probably pizza or California Pizza Kitchen’s Thai Crunch Salad. YUM!
Professionally: I’ve been a stay home mom FOREVER (since I was 19), I wish I had continued with my education. I’d love to be a photographer or a graphic designer.
Money: If money were no object I would move to a house with a much larger kitchen & more closets.
Idol: I would guess that either Michael or Scott will be next to go… I like everyone left except Adam though.

Hope that you are all healthy and rested after this weekend.
Favorite food? A really big, really cool and crisp Greek salad minus the olives, blech. Professionally? Well, I wouldn’t be a lawyer – I can tell you that much! And, I wouldn’t have a job where I have to bill time. I would love to teach college-level history but have a flexible enough schedule that I could spend more time with my baby. I don’t get enough of that these days. If money were no object, I would move to a house closer to my parents/church/work/Aubryn’s school that is in a really great walkable town. My favorite color right now is red and my favorite song changes by the week/day.
    That’s enough about me :)

I hope racecar feels better soon!!! If I could change my career (right now I am a chief compliance officer of an investment firm) I would probably start a non-profit for the rescue of abused and not wanted dogs and horses (go figure…) and train the ones that could be trained, and had the right dispositions, to be therapy animals…or something to do with animals. At one point (not too long ago), I started studying to be a veterinary technician. Until my horse got sick this past Thanksgiving and the vet had to do something (involving a latex glove that – NO joke – went all the way up to her SHOULDER!!!!! GROSS!!!!). when we saw that, my husband said “are you sure you want to be a vet tech?” to which my lightning-quick reply was “NO WAY!!” – the vet laughed!

A weekend getaway…I’m so jealous! Those are the best but then once the next week rolls around it really sucks to come back to reality!
I have lots of favorite foods, pasta is my weakness. I’m allergic to shellfish and don’t even know what shrimp or crab or anything like that tastes. It makes for a huge ordeal when we are at the beach and I have allergic reactions and have to go to the hospital.
If money were no obeject then I would be in serious trouble at a few stores. I would love to open a home for abused women and children. This cause is very near and dear to my heart. I just wish I had the money and time. I have thought about going to work for one in town but I want to make a safe haven for people that I know I am helping. I could tell you so much but then you would be spending your trip reading my entry. Have a great weekend!

I haven’t thought about food in three days since I’ve been so sick, so I may be a bit rusty at the food thing. Shane makes an amazing french onion soup, completely from scratch, that I just love. Aside from that, I could happily eat like a five year old and live on corn dogs, french fries, cotton candy, and root beer floats.
If money were no object, I’d stay at home, of course, but also I think I’d explore freelance makeup more. Take classes, maybe work at a cosmetics counter, just do something that I’d enjoy.
Oh, and my favorite color is pink, but I’m betting you could’ve guessed that. And songs, hmm. I love Jeff Buckley’s version of Hallelujah, so much so that I recently played it in a bar (hey, it was on the jukebox) and totally got boo-ed by all the drunken rednecks in the bar (and okay, by our friends, too), most of whom were like, WTF THIS ISN’T CHURCH! Other than that, I pretty much love all songs, excluding country music.
I hope this comment was long enough to provide a little entertainment on your way to big plans. Though I’m with Steph and wondering why you didn’t mention this on Friday, silly!

And, If I could do anything in the world, I would live somewhere in the mountains, far away from people, just me, my husband, the kids, a small lake, trails to hike, photos to take, words to write…

I hope racecar feels much better very soon! We’ve managed (knock on wood) to avoid any major illnesses so far this “season!

I love dessert… any kind really. My fave color is purple and my fave song of all time is “you look so good in love” by george strait. If money were no object I would buy hundreds of acres, build huge houses for my best friend and I and we would start an animal rescue for dogs and large animals.

Professionally I have no idea… being a photographer would be fun but challenging for sure. American Idol is not allowed in our house because the hubby feels like it’s mean to watch the people who aren’t very good!

Since I wouldn’t be tied down to a job here I would be able to travel to Draft Horse Shows across the United States with my family in tow! Isn’t that funny that my dream job consists of hauling horse manure and getting stinky, nasty dirty?? lol But since money is an object i’ll just continue living this life that i’m blessed with and traveling to shows when I can.. Have fun on your adventure this weekend!

I have really enjoyed your blog. I have commented on a couple of your pictures but since you asked I will give this a try :)
My favorite foods lately involve peanuts as my son is deathly allergic and we can have none in the house. These coveted foods can range from PB & J sandwiches to yummy spicy Thai food. I’m not picky.
My dream jobs would be to run a homeless shelter and facilitate great kids programs…or own and operate a bakery / tea shop.
Thats probably good for now. Have a lovely break this weekend!

I’ve never commented before (at least I don’t think I have – I rarely comment on the blogs I read, I think I am blog shy) but you inspired me to with your multiple options and encouragement. :)

Professionally – I love my job. I am a teacher (high school Chemistry and AP Chemistry) and the only thing I would majorly change is to add about 5 more hours to the day so I have time to prep for school AND play a lot with my baby girl everyday, and maybe even go nuts and have time for my husband once in awhile. :)

If Money were no object – I would totally buy about 3 different cameras and take a bunch of classes and thousands of pictures so I could do all the cool things I see posted online. I think I take pretty good pictures, I am learning with photoshop, and I take a ton of my daughter, but I would love to learn more about aperture and how to take pictures with bokeh backgrounds and things like that!

    have a great weekend!

Breakin is an oldie…I watched it a few months ago. I was so excited, I got my bowl of popcorn and was ready. About 10 minutes in I thought, wow. I don’t remember this being so, um, BAD. lol.

Money. I would love to buy a quaint, newer home in our area for the kids and I. Something I could pay cash for, no mortage! I am so boring, but I would pay off all of my debt and I would save the rest for kid’s college.

Idol. I really am having a hard time this year, I think they all are pretty darn good. Anoop, he just makes me smile. Allison (16yr red head) can rock it out. *Said in best Randy voice DOOOG* Ultimately I think it is going to come down to Danny and Adam, maybe Lil…unless America messes it up and votes them off, like Chris Daughtry’s WAY to early exit.

    Ok, this is getting long.
My favorite color is blue, :)

    Again, have a great weekend.

    ELECTRO ROCK!

    Anyway:
    Favorite food: fajitas
Money no object/dream job: I would be living on a quaint farm with a lush garden, stone cottage for an office, and variety of livestock (especially alpacas and sheep). I would spin my own yarn & be a professional knitter/weaver. And I would also be an author. I would write tongue in cheek, quirky comedies that would have small, but loyal following. However, I would also have a secret pen name and be hugely successful at writing Romance novels.

    Well, since you asked…

…I don’t know that I have a favorite kind of food. I like mozzarella sticks with marinara! And mashed potatoes! And corn on the cob! And delicious, delicious fresh fish! Okay, and even though it’s 9am in the morning here, talking about all these foods has made me hungry. I could go for cream cheese wontons and lemon chicken salad right now. Mmmmm.

If money were no object, I would love to buy a flat parcel of land within walking distance and make it into a huge vegetable/fruit tree garden. That would rock. If I could do anything professionally, I would learn how to take phenomenal photographs.

My favorite color today is sage, but tomorrow that might change. It usually stays within ranges of greens and pinks, though. And I could never pick a favorite song. If it makes me smile when I’m listening, it’s my favorite RIGHT. THEN.

    2. Adopt a little girl from China. We have an awesome family, we’re pretty good parents, and I’ve always wanted to do this.

    3. Take my family to Disney World.

If I could do anything professionally right now? I’d want to stay home, be a mommy and not feel like I was depriving my family financially.

My favorite song is We’ve Got Tonight, by Bob Seger. It’s ‘our’ song. Or, maybe I Love You, by Climax Blues Band. It’s up there too.

Favorite food? Perfectly ripe watermelon sprinkled lightly with salt.

I’ve commented briefly before, but figured I’d share a bit about me since you asked. :)

1 – Dream job – right now I would love to quit my day office job and do what you’re doing – photography & be a mom. I currently cover the health insurance for my family so until my husbands job at the Air National Guard becomes permanent, I’ll still be working the day job. I do LOVE photography though and do weddings and family portraits as a hobby. I just need to have the time to focus on making it an actual career.

2 – favorite food – don’t really have just one…I’m a comfort food junkie – mashed potatoes, rice, BREAD, basically all the bad for you stuff

3 – If money was no object – I’d travel!!! I love to travel and my family and I do so regularly, but I’d really love to travel to Africa, China, you name it. I’ve been blessed enough to go to Europe twice, but I’d love to go with my husband. Honestly, I’d love a real vacation – a relaxing one, not just one to visit my family out of state, but one where I can be waited on while sitting at the beach watching my kids build sand castles…or get an massage at a relaxing exotic resort…

Okay I better stop as my daydreaming is getting me now where and I really better get back to that day job I’d love to quit!

By the way, I love reading your blog!

Also, when I fall asleep in front of the tv, I hate to admit it so if I hear my husband laugh, I will laugh too (or clear my thorat, or move my foot) so he thinks I am awake (because I certainly look awake with my open eyes). I work in an office & take my son with me, which is GREAT, but I’m SO TIRED of saying, “Sweetheart, just a minute, Mommy has to finish this __________” fill in the blank – payroll, bills, confirmation letters, you name it. I’m quitting at the end of August, my notice has been given, and I cannot WAIT to ‘just’ be a SAHM!!! :)

I hope Anoop gets voted off this week.

I love love love pink and I love being a teacher! I guess that’s easy to say since it’s Friday:) It’s stressful sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything…kind of like being a mom. They aren’t easiest jobs but the rewards are priceless. My girls (all 10 of them) wrote me a song this week, they had 10 copies writen and had practiced during recess who would do what parts. I cried this morning, happy proud tears, while they sang they make me feel so loved and appreciated. I am sooo happy to be THEIR teacher, they brighten my world.

If money weren’t an option I’m torn between teaching and SAHM, with both I’d feel like I’m mising out on the other… if only Jill could be in my class and I could do both at the same time:)

I think I commented once in the You Capture post, but I will answer your questions…

First of all, I hope Racecar feels better soon… My middle girl (2yo) had bronchopneumonia last month and had to be hospitalized for almost a week!!

    My favorite food? Italian!

What I’d love to do if money were no object? Travel to Ecuador so me and my daughters can meet their daddy’s side of the family…. And then, travel some more.

Anything professionally? Im lucky enough to do what I love. I do graphic design and I get butterflies in my stomach with each finished project!

Favorite color? Depends on the day… Most days is Pink, though.

Favorite Song? I honestly cant think of any… For the last 5 years I have only heard Barney, Dora, and every cartoon around!

    AI? What’s that? LOL

Fave food? My husband homemade mac and cheese is right up there. So is my mothers homemade chicken noodle soup.

If money were no object? Is this a one time offer? For someone nearly unemployed with no health insurance – I’d get me some. I need allergy shots and we are waiting on trying to get pregnant simply because I don’t have insurance. If it’s meant to be completely frivolous- then I’d buy a fancy new SLR (maybe that new Canon) and fly off to Greece to take photos until I explode from happiness.

Professionally? Get paid to write, be creative or help others learn.

    Color? Most days blue.

Song? Can’t choose just one. Most played on my itunes at the moment is Jill Sobule’s “Don’t Let Us Get Sick”

AI – never watched it. Sorry :(

Have fun on your break! Not sure I’d kick it off by watching that movie, though. ;-) It’s just so . . . BAD.

As for my favorite food – I like lots of things Chinese, Filipino, Italian, asparagus, raspberries, chocolate. And I really, really, really wish McDonald’s french fries weren’t so freakin’ horrible for you! Because I love those.

My favorite colors are blue and green. Though I like maroon an awful lot too.

Professionally, I would love to own a major advertising firm where I could combine my writing and design talents and employ the top players in the field. I’d also love to be a famous writer.

If money were no object, I’d buy acres of land somewhere warm (California, Hawaii), overlooking the ocean and build log cabins for myself and all my friends/family. I’d then write all day and have fun. I’d have a huge garden, animals, and our little community would self-sufficient.

And Lil Rounds BETTER make it to the finals or AI is just crap. I like Anoop but I think he’ll go soon. And please don’t pelt me for not being politically correct, but I HOPE Scott goes VERY soon. He really isn’t that great of a singer.

Oh – and my favorite song? I could write you a whole list but as you’re on your iPhone, I’ll just say my favorite song lately is Untouched by The Veronica’s.

Giiiirl! I didn’t JUST see Breakin’….I saw Breakin’ 2…ohyesIdid. And I liked it. Because I’m stupid and I thought wearing a sweatband around your wrist was HAWT.

My favorite guilty pleasure? Every so often…I go on Hulu…and I search up Grease 2!!!!

*sigh* I feel so much better since I shared that with you.

Love to R! Hope improvement is imminent.
