Handmade Inspired {a spring collection}

Monday, March 23rd, 2009
By Beth

It’s spring break!  This morning the kids and I stopped over at Stephanie’s and had the most perfect impromptu play date.  I also got to show her what drastic thing I did this weekend, continue reading to find out.  After we left, even though it was a little chilly and insanely windy outside, I still felt all springy and fresh inside.

I was inspired to show you a collection of some of my favorite handmade items that I’ve discovered over the past few weeks.

springy-collage

A.  A unique way to mark your page. $4
B.  Coral Bloom Ring.  $10 and free shipping.  How could you NOT snag this deal?  P.S.  There is only one left.
C.  Meadow Wall Graphic.  $32  I just love these.  I’m pretty sure I’ll be applying these to at least one of the walls in my bathroom downstairs.
D.  A handmade quilt for the baby girl’s room.  I love anything handmade, but I have a very special place in my heart for quilts.  $100.
E.  I just love this bluebird and flower large tote click on the link and check out the inside of this tote.  So springy and fresh!  $55.
F.  These posy pins are too cute for words.  3 for $15.
G.  This hat speaks to me.  Two days ago I cut my hair OFF and can’t help but think that this hat would look so cute with my haircut… and it’s only $20.
H.  Not surprisingly this wall art is among my favorites.  Between the arrangement of the three pieces and the two perfect birds, I have to think that it’s meant to be on my walls.  I think it’s adequately prices at $179, but I think this purchase will have to wait awhile.  But isn’t it lovely?

Happy shopping, friends.

Welcome – Ultimate Blog Party!

Ultimate Blog Party 2009

Thanks for stopping by today, if you are new here, I’m going to tell you some things about me, if you are a regular reader of mine, then maybe you’ll learn something new about me!

First of all, this is my blog.  It’s very shiny and busy and I like to keep it nice and updated all of the time.  When I don’t post, sometimes I feel bad which is something I should talk to my therapist about.

I started this blog back in January of 2006, I had no idea what a blog was, but my friends and I decided to all start one on the same day and we did and it was fun.

I’m 32, I have a handsome husband, Brian, who is 32, he’s a workaholic and he’s very friendly.  He empties the dishwasher for me each morning and makes my coffee for me.  He also bathes the kids.  Once the kids go to bed, he always says to me “do you need anything, baby?“  And I usually say “no thanks” and then he sits down and stares at his laptop and works for hours and hours.  And hours.  He works with computers for a law firm in downtown Chicago.

I have a six year old daughter that I call Ariel.  I call her Ariel on the blog only, not in real life.  In fact, if I tried to call her Ariel now she would look at me and say “mother, that is so three years ago, call me Hannah Montana.”  And then I’d throw up a little bit in my mouth because Hannah Montana is on my nerves but I still watch her show because it’s funny.   Ariel is smart and we read chapter books together now and she loves lip gloss and fashion and the thought of her growing up and becoming a teenager makes me weep.

The thought of her becoming a mother makes me weep, too, but in a different way.

I have a five year old son that I call Racecar.  I do not call him Racecar in real life, if I did he would look at me like I was crazy and say something like “Mom, you’re the nicest mom in the wholest wholest wholest wholest wholest world but please call me Short Round.“   He’s a very sweet kid.  He’s addicted to playing Wii and his eyes make my heart stop, they are so beautiful.

My kids were born 360 days apart.  We did not plan it that way.  The first year was the hardest year of my life – but we came through it with flying colors and the fact that they were born so close together is the greatest gift ever.  I would do it again.   (next time, I would consider more alcohol in the first year, however.)

Let’s talk about me, shall we?  I’m always trying to lose ten or fifteen pounds but it just won’t come off magically.  Which leads me to the next fact that you can usually find me with a handful of teddy grahams (the chocolate chip variety) in my hands throughout the day.  Also, I love graham crackers, so much so that I can not keep them in my house.  I also love Taco Bell, recently, we had Taco Bell three times in one week.

I haven’t had it since.

I love photography.  I just started a photography business last fall.  I could take pictures all day long, everyday and never grow tired of it.  I have a lot of hard drive space on my laptop because I take so many pictures.  I upload pictures to Flickr quite often.  Every Thursday I host a carnival called You Capture.  If you enjoy taking pictures, you should join us, it’s fun.

I also started a blog design business with my friend, Christy, last year, it’s fun and very busy.

I also get paid to write over here.  Which is just weird to me, but that’s okay, I’ll take it.

I’m addicted to Etsy and I’m pretty sure I’m turning into a tech geek.  I love twitter and my iPhone and sometimes I think about going to Best Buy or the Apple store rather than shopping for shoes or handbags.

As you can see, I’m terribly random.

This blog is very real.  I’m quite honest and sometimes I talk about my periods, sometimes I confess to you how dirty my jeans are, yesterday I admitted to buying my bra at Walgreens and sometimes I talk about grief.

In February of 2008, we lost our identical twin boys, James and Jake at 19 weeks.  Our lives changed forever.  and it continues to change.

We are now unsure of what the future holds, we were once certain of a larger family but since having another miscarriage this past February at nine weeks, we just aren’t sure what’s in store for us.  Rather than bury ourselves in our grief and the fear of the unknown, we try to pay closer attention to all of the amazing gifts that surround us, from our children, to our home to the blue of the sky.  We also know that we have the most perfect angels watching over us, which brings us comfort.

Whew.  I think you’ve heard enough.

Thanks to Five Minutes for Mom for hosting this awesome event!  Head over there to discover thousands of new blogs out there!  HAVE FUN!

Never know what you’ll get

I had four moles removed yesterday, which was um…not fun, but that’s okay.  After learning that two of the three I’ve had removed so far contained abnormal cells, having the four removed yesterday was a bit nerve wracking knowing that my chances of melanoma had increased quite a  bit since my last appointment three weeks ago.

Have you had your skin exam?  I hope you do.  Someone I know and love, who is my age (32), was just diagnosed with Stage One melanoma and I hate that so much.   PLEASE protect yourself from the sun, okay?   Please set a good example for our kids, okay?

Man, I had no idea I was going to come here and get all preachy with you.  Sorry about that.  (not really.)  One of the moles I had removed was on my boob.  Which makes bra wearing a real treat.  While having it removed, the doctor told me that I needed to wear a sports bra to bed for a month.

Wha?  Huh?  Me? Who?

I’m the type of girl that as soon as the sun goes down I’ve got my pajamas on, my contacts out and my BRA OFF.  I may have tiny little things in that area but I still like my freedom, if you know what I mean.  I walked out of the office thinking that the only sports bra I have was really not very supportive at all.  It’s quite old and stretched out.  (I’m not sure why it’s stetched out.)  The goal of wearing the sports bra to bed is to keep my (little) stuff in place so I don’t stretch the stitches at all while tossing and turning at night.

I didn’t have time to go to Target to buy a new one and I really didn’t want to anyway.  The kids and I already had to stop at Walgreens for steri-strips and whatnot, so stopping somewhere else was totally unappealing.  We walked into Walgreens and I had a faint memory of walking through Walgreens once upon a time and thinking “wow, I can’t believe Walgreens carries bras,  I wonder how many they really sell.” and I probably even thought “who would actually buy a bra from Walgreens?”

At that thought, I said to the kids, “hey, let’s go this way instead” and we strolled toward the dedordant.  Where I found Hanes bras, where I also found a sports bra…in my size.

I came home, washed it and put it on and it’s the best damn sports bra I have ever owned.  Friends, it was FIVE BUCKS.

Almost makes me want to exercise more often.

(Just kidding, it doesn’t make me want to exercise at all.)

So anyway, that’s all that’s happening over here.  Just thought you’d like to know that I had a small portion of my boob removed, which is tricky considering there isn’t much there in the first place and I also thought you’d like to know that Walgreens carries great bras.

The end.

American Idol Recap, 24 hours late

By Beth

Let me start out by saying that Randy Travis and I have a deep history.  Get me drunk enough and I’ll sing you just about every song he has.  Okay, you don’t even need to get me drunk.  Just turn him on and I’ll starting singing.  yee haw.

And yes, I know I’m a night behind, but I started watching this and thought “hey!  Why not live blog it?!”  Even though it’s not LIVE per say and many of you know the results right now, I just wanted to share.  k?

Michael Sarver – I thought he was out of breath throughout the song.  That’s all.

Allison Iraheta – I love her so much.  She reminds me of my niece which makes me love her even more.   I can not believe she is so young.  She did look awfully red tonight, but that’s okay.  I like red.

Kris Allen - There is something about this beautiful, hot and talented boy that I positively adore.  I could stare at him and listen to him for days and days.  He is perfection.  Well, at least tonight he was.  Maybe next time he’ll take his shirt off.

I will be buying that song.

Lil Rounds – Let me start out by saying I love her and I have that her name is Lil and I love that her bottom is so big.  I mean, I don’t LOVE it, I’m just intrigued and probably jealous.  She sounds a little flat and boring.  But in the middle of the song she is sounding MUCH better.  I loved the last note.  She’s fab.

When the judges say it’s an ambitious choice, it always confuses me because shouldn’t their choice be ambitious?

I could watch Simon act like Paula is an idiot for four hours each week alone, no singing necessary.  Simon calling Lil Little is FREAKIN’ HILARIOUS.

Adam Lambert - Heaven help me.  Please don’t hate me but I do not like this cat at all.  In all seriousness, you can’t tell me that he’s not the male version of Amanda Overmyer.  It’s totally the truth.  Is he gay?  Is he totally manly?  Is he a peacock?  Is he Elvis?  I really want to put barrettes in his bangs.

Randy Travis “I don’t even know what to say about this boy.”  Love Randy Travis.  And I don’t know what to say about him either.  Now Adam is singing Ring of Fire which I love because hello?  JOHNNY CASH.

Oh, Amanda.  I mean, Adam.  I don’t like this version at all.  He IS a good singer, though.

Paula is talking and now I want to put forks in my eyes.  Simon says “indulgent rubbish.”  Right on, brother.  (P.S. I know lots of people love him and I’m sorry that I do not.  But OHMYGODIDONOT.)

Scott McIntyre – Did Scott get a haircut and a new hair color perhaps?  He looks particularly handsome tonight.  I like Scott, but I don’t think he’s the greatest singer in the world, I think his voice is pretty shaky.   I still like him, though and I love his piano playing.

Paula talkingblahblahdumbblahargh.  Now Simon and Paula are arguing.  Cara said “you bring class and poise onto the stage” and I agree.  But I thing his days are numbered.

Alexis Grace – She’s cute.  She does have a good voice but I felt like the song was missing something.  Maybe some harmony or something?  It’s such a dramatic song and it felt so…sterile, maybe boring.

Paula is dumb.  The End.

Danny Gokey – I think it’s so cool that someone is covering someone’s song that was on Idol.  The chorus of this song is really great, Danny is so incredibly powerful.  He IS powerful.

I’m pretty sure Paula took a dumb pill tonight.  (by tonight I do mean every night.)  And does she really have to show so much boobage?  (I promise I won’t talk about Paula this much every time I do this.  But I probably will so you’ve been warned.)

Anoop Desai – (sidenote: I think Randy Travis should do this every week.)  Anoop’s voice sounds so velveety and beautiful to me tonight.  I love this performance.  I want to marry it.  or maybe just download it.  This is the  best I’ve heard him sing.

ZERO TO HERO! Loved that.  Hearing positive feedback from Simon makes me happy.

Anoop is dang cute.

Megan Joy – Oh my gosh, her dress is positively atrocious.  Are those baseballs in her bra?  I am not enjoying this.  She needs to leave.  RIGHT. NOW.  Maybe I’m crazy because I grew up listening to Patsy Cline, but this crap is just not working for me.  and that  little spin/curtsy she keeps doing?  Makes me want to bang my head against the computer.

And the judges love her.  Is there something wrong with me?  Oh, Brian loves her, too, because THERE ARE BOOBS.

Matt Giraud – He sounds good.  I enjoy his voice and I think he has soul.

My best for bottom three – Megan Joy, Scott MacIntyre, Alexis Grace.  or Michael Sarver.

Yes, that’s four.  Leave me alone.

(just watched the results show…BTW.)
