Not planned

Saturday, April 25th, 2009
By Beth

I wasn’t planning to get pregnant, but I did.

We never thought we’d find out we were having twins, but we did.

During that time, I wasn’t planning to become the happiest most grateful person on this earth, but I did.

I wasn’t planning on losing James & Jake.

But I did.

James & Jake 7681

I never thought my heart could break into into a million little piece to never be the same.

But it did.

The funeral home, the memorial service, memorial cards, flowers, meals;  I never thought those would be a part of my life.  But they were.

I never thought my children’s ashes would sit on my dresser in my home.  But they do.

Footprint - James and Jake

I was JUST LIKE YOU, ONCE UPON A TIME.   I didn’t know grief like I now know, I took my children and my pregnancies for granted, I thought that type of thing only happened to other people.

But that’s not true.

Tomorrow we walk for so much.  For love, for hope, for missing, for dreams, for inspiration, for loss, for sadness, for gratitude.  For life. We walk for James and Jake, Lydia, my niece and nephew, my dear friend’s daughter, Allison and for Madeline.

And for you.  For you because you just never know what is going to happen.  You never know when your life will be flipped upside down to never return to the place it once was.

By walking tomorrow, it is my goal to make sure you never know what you don’t know.

But just because you don’t know it, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t know about it.  Donate to the cause.  Appreciate the gifts in your life.  Love with all of you heart.

I never thought I’d be part of a team, walking for our sons that would raise close to $18,000 in two years.  But I am, and I’m so proud of that.

Quickly

Friday, April 24th, 2009
By Beth

I was planning to come here and write up a cute little post for all of you, but Brian’s train has stopped running, so I need to pack the kids up and head to Chicago to pick him up.

It’s cool though because it’s EIGHT FIVE degrees outside.

But what’s not cool is that we don’t have air in our mini-van.

So, I’m going to tell you what’s on my mind, quickly.

This.  And only this.  Just two days away…

By Beth

Sometimes, when I’m driving, I’m so busy looking at the blooms and the green working so hard to show up, that I’m surprised I continue to drive straight on the road.

Sometimes, I don’t.  But that’s our secret.

You Capture. Letters.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
By Beth

I’m hearing that many of you struggled with this week’s subject and last week’s subject which is GOOD, in my opinion, because everything good is worth looking for.  or something.   I could easily say “take a picture of your child’s smile,” but how challenging would that be?  I want you to think and open your eyes to this vast and beautiful world that surrounds you.

I also enjoy the subjects I pick because many can be taken in 100 different ways and I like that.  Wouldn’t it be boring to visit everyone’s sites and see that we all took the same photo?  I think so, too.  So, keep rockin’ it and keep taking lots of pictures.  BIG TIP: Take lots of pictures.

Wait, did I just say that?

I take approximately 2,500 pictures A MONTH, last month I took 6,000.  Practice makes perfect.  Take your camera everywhere and if you feel compelled to take a shot…TAKE IT. Several times.

Okay, let’s get going.  This week’s subject was letters and man, did this one get the wheels in my head turning!  Up until this morning I had NOTHING.  No shots and no ideas.  So, I grabbed my coffee and drove around and I found some things that I am quite pleased with.

We have an abundance of these big x’s (and r’s) around here:
Letter X and R

And we all have these “t” intersections, don’t we?

Letter T

Little letters.  Big purpose.

Letter NSEW

Love this.

Letter library

And finally.  What’s for dinner?  I’m hungry.

Letter A

Yes.  It WAS delicious.  Thankyouverymuch.

Now it’s YOUR turn to share your shots!  And if you didn’t get any and you’re now getting ideas after seeing everyone’s shots, get out there and take some pictures and link up.  It’s never too late, my friends.

Just a few things to keep in mind:

1.  You can join in on this challenge at any time!  We welcome & love new participants.
2.  Please make sure you are linking directly to your specific You Capture post in Mr. Linky (and not just your site, for instructions, go here) and please make sure you are linking back to this challenge in your post.  If you don’t abide by this, your link will be removed.  (I know, I’m so mean.)
3.  Try your hardest not to reuse a picture from your archives, the goal of You Capture is to get you moving with your camera, get creative!  Challenge yourself!
4.  Do your best to visit the other participants’ site – everyone loves the traffic, the comments and the feedback (not just you!)
5.  And finally, post as many pictures as you want on your post.

Joy.

too much

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009
By Beth

So, apparently I ate TOO MUCH this week because this morning I weighed TOO MUCH which is annoying (so annoying), but you know what?  I never counted points, not a single day this week.  So what did I expect?  Sure I didn’t gave in and eat a oreo cookie blizzard when I wanted to and sure I only ate one taco from Taco Bell Sunday night when Brian went there and didn’t make sure my entire order was there.  AGAIN.

But I didn’t count points, so you know what they say in preschool “you get what you get and you don’t have a fit.”

And if you don’t like the results, change what you’re doing, fool.  Well, I added that part.

Last week I weighed 175, this week I weighed 176.8 which is SHOCKING to me, and it hurts my heart a little, but I just have to get over it.  (STUPIDSMELLYIDIOTICSCALE.)

And guess what else?  I have an injury.  I’m not sure if it’s my fault or Jillian’s fault, but either way my right knee hurts  and it’s swollen and it’s difficult to bend which is a problem because bending is a good thing.  And pretty necessary, if you ask me.  Especially while shredding and sitting on the couch cross legged while eating ice cream.

I’m not sure what to do, part of me says “just shred again, you jerk, you promised to the world that you would do it for 30 days“  The other part of me says “um, sugarlips, you have a six mile walk in honor of your babies and THAT is the most important thing and if you keep shredding, no walky walky for you.“  And that side also says to me “you’re going to Disney next Friday and the following Thursday you are going to San Francisco where you will be walking.  A lot.“  (although the thought of being driven around on one of those beeping trucks in the airport IS appealing, I must say.)

So, here is my decision.  I’m going to continue to shred but will not do anything strenuous on my legs.  Crunches?  Yep.  Arm exercises?  Oh yes.  And maybe even a girly push up or two, but beyond that?  The only thing I’ll be doing on my legs is getting up to refill my bowl of ice cream*.

Which may be the reason why I gained weight this week.

And speaking of TOO MUCH.  I posed this question on twitter and I need to know from you…I feel like I’m posting WAY TOO MUCH.  Is there such a thing?   Am I overwhelming you kids who read me through google reader?  Do you see (47) next to my blog name and shudder and hit “mark as read.”    AM I BLOGGING TOO MUCH?

*I do not eat bowls of ice cream, I promise.
