too much

By Beth
Apr 22, 2009

So, apparently I ate TOO MUCH this week because this morning I weighed TOO MUCH which is annoying (so annoying), but you know what?  I never counted points, not a single day this week.  So what did I expect?  Sure I didn’t gave in and eat a oreo cookie blizzard when I wanted to and sure I only ate one taco from Taco Bell Sunday night when Brian went there and didn’t make sure my entire order was there.  AGAIN.

But I didn’t count points, so you know what they say in preschool “you get what you get and you don’t have a fit.”

And if you don’t like the results, change what you’re doing, fool.  Well, I added that part.

Last week I weighed 175, this week I weighed 176.8 which is SHOCKING to me, and it hurts my heart a little, but I just have to get over it.  (STUPIDSMELLYIDIOTICSCALE.)

And guess what else?  I have an injury.  I’m not sure if it’s my fault or Jillian’s fault, but either way my right knee hurts  and it’s swollen and it’s difficult to bend which is a problem because bending is a good thing.  And pretty necessary, if you ask me.  Especially while shredding and sitting on the couch cross legged while eating ice cream.

I’m not sure what to do, part of me says “just shred again, you jerk, you promised to the world that you would do it for 30 days“  The other part of me says “um, sugarlips, you have a six mile walk in honor of your babies and THAT is the most important thing and if you keep shredding, no walky walky for you.“  And that side also says to me “you’re going to Disney next Friday and the following Thursday you are going to San Francisco where you will be walking.  A lot.“  (although the thought of being driven around on one of those beeping trucks in the airport IS appealing, I must say.)

So, here is my decision.  I’m going to continue to shred but will not do anything strenuous on my legs.  Crunches?  Yep.  Arm exercises?  Oh yes.  And maybe even a girly push up or two, but beyond that?  The only thing I’ll be doing on my legs is getting up to refill my bowl of ice cream*.

Which may be the reason why I gained weight this week.

And speaking of TOO MUCH.  I posed this question on twitter and I need to know from you…I feel like I’m posting WAY TOO MUCH.  Is there such a thing?   Am I overwhelming you kids who read me through google reader?  Do you see (47) next to my blog name and shudder and hit “mark as read.”    AM I BLOGGING TOO MUCH?

*I do not eat bowls of ice cream, I promise.

You could blog 20 times a day, and I would still read and love every word. NO LIE. Also I’m guessing you meant to say that you weighed 178 this week and not 168? Because even though I really, really suck at math, I think that would be a loss.
I hope your knee is healed by Sunday. I am totally gimpy with sciatica right now, so we don’t need two of hobbling through six miles!

I love everything that you write and will read it all. Also, just my 2 cents but… I injured my knee big time running about a year and a half ago, kept going even when I was in pain for MONTHS. It ended up costing me a year without being able to run consistently, 6 months in PT (which was not cheap I might add), and worst of all, about 10 pounds that I then had to get off once I could move my knee without gut wrenching pain again. Make sure you take it easy and don’t overdo it. Hope you get better VERY soon.

I think your shredding plan makes sense. Do it, but very carefully. Sore is one thing, but swelling is something entirely different. Definitely more important mentally to do your walk on Sunday and have fun on your trips. So, PUT THE ICE CREAM DOWN and have a carrot stick! :)

    Mrs Soup says:

Don’t keep up the leg excersizes, but still stretch it carefully. Also make sure to ice it and take ibuprofen to keep the swelling down so that you can do the walk. Because you would be heartbroken if you couldn’t walk.

And post more! Please! ^.^ Keep me occupied on my boring work day. lol.

Are you measuring yourself too? So I was having the smae problem, staying the same weight or gaining 1 lb. My friend said you have to do measurement so I tried. Even though I haven’t lost alot I have lost 4 inches in my waist, 1 1/2 in my arms. I know when the scale doesn’t move it sucks but seeing the measurement go down does help for the self esteem. Keep it up and keep blogging you are doing great!

Some people can post too much. You, my dear, CANNOT. I can read you all day long. And when I laugh at my desk because of something you said, I have to cover up and say “oh, I just thought of something!” and then make something up so the other ladies in the office don’t catch on to me not actually working.

But don’t worry. Right now, it’s lunch time. And I am not eating fries. And by not, of course I mean, shoving my face with.

    Jessi says:

    1) Did you maybe eat more salt or sugar than usual in the past few days? Maybe your increase is just water retention from these things and will just fade away as you get back to your better eating habits? One night I ate pizza and popcorn and the next day I “weighed” 4 lbs more, but after a couple days it all just went away.
    2) You don’t post too much. You have great content and people will always want to read more :)

Brush yourself off and start over again. You hit a detour and now you are back on the right road. I have decided that I can’t have ice cream in my house, unless it’s weight watchers with the points on the box. It IS easy to go over your points, trust me. And, you can NEVER blog too much. I need something to read on my lunch hour and when I wake up at 3 in the morning. You are one of my favorite blogsters….shhh…don’t tell anyone…

    nicole says:

You do not blog too much. It is not like you are forcing anyone to read. Your blog is yours, write when you want!

Take care of that knee. As others have said, you could hurt yourself worse if you push too much. Take some painkillers, use ice, and just be careful.

Jealous of your trips. have fun!

    Mom at MusingsoftheSixties says:

Of course you don’t blog too much. How could that be? You’re interesting and fun to read and if we don’t have time, then we don’t have to read BUT it we have time and want to read and it’s not there? Now that’s a problem. Please! We need our options.
As for the weight? It doesn’t matter because you’ve lost inches….lots of them. I know. I saw you last night!

    Dylan says:

It is so rare that I leave my little Google Reader window and comment, but I HAD TO ON THIS ONE!!

Two things- one, I am having the exact same shredding/leg issue except my pain is more in my shin than my knee. but i can’t do the jumping jacks, jump ropes and DEFINITELY not the butt kicks. so sometimes i throw a few halfhearted kickboxing punches, but mostly i’ve been taking water breaks while jillian, anita and natalie sweat their way through two minutes of cardio.

second, NO WAY you post too much. i love when your posts come across in reader….so much that sometimes i’m sad when you post elsewhere because again, that would involve leaving the comfort of my google reader window. but please please please post lots!

    Carrie says:

Oh, my goodness, I don’t think you’re blogging too much!!! I always enjoy your posts!

And I hope your knee feels better soon – the walk is DEFINITELY the most important thing!!!

  15. 15

You, my dear, can never blog too much. Ever. Never ever never. So there.

But if you’re hurting, please go easy. The walk is the numero-uno, super-important, A#1 thing on your list. And I have no idea how much walking we’ll be doing next weekend at Disney, but if it hurts, you can lean on me, hon ;)

As for weight loss, and all that, I still think you’re bulking your muscles up at the same time as losing fat. Or water weight – how’s your sodium intake?

    *hugs*

  16. 16

You’re definitely not blogging too much! Don’t stop!

I am injured from Jillian too. Groin. Its so frustrating because I really want to shred, but some of those exercises really hurt.

I think you’ve got the right idea, do what you can, don’t hurt yourself!

The walk is the most important thing!

    Lyndsay says:

First of all – I’m sorry for your frustrating week. Remember too, that muscle weighs more than fat so maybe you gained a lot of muscle this week.
Second – I’m eager to hear about how you do the 30-day shred with no-impact. I’m waiting for ankle surgeries and can’t do any impact exercise, but all I hear about is how great this DVD is.
Take care! (put some ice on that knee).

    Lisa says:

I just read your post while engulfing two tablespoons of crunchy peanut butter. Your ice cream = my crunch peanut butter.

No, you cannot blog too much. Nope, never.

As for the knee…. I had painful knees during shredding on Monday-Wednesday and I was so worried that I was going to injure it. I took to doing walking lunges (versus pedulum lunges) and that helped. I made sure to take it easy on anything that required heavy action on the knees. And today, no pain. However, with the swelling, I would definitely take it easy. You DON’T want to injure yourself. For the cardio, just modify it so you aren’t jumping around as much. Still do something, just nothing hard at that knee!

    Good luck, lisa

    Jen says:

It could easily be all the new muscles that you are building from the shred. This is very typical when you work out a lot. Or could it be that time of the month when you add water weight?

There is no such thing as too much of your posts. Keep them coming!!

  21. 21

No such thing as blogging to much. I can’t get enough :)

  22. 22
    d says:

I gained exactly the same amount this week and its all because of the birthday cake I could not say no to…on several occasions. I am back in the saddle and I am going to lose it this week.
No, you do not blog too much. I rarely comment (sorry) but I read regularly.

    Bacardi Mama says:

You my dear, could never blog too much!! It is one of the high points of my day when I can read your new blog. Please, keep posting over and over. Several times a day, if you wish. There are a lot of us who would be reading. I promise. As for the exercising, take care of your knee. You have too many big things going on to really mess it up. No leg exercises for you. Abs and arms are fine. Oh, thanks for quoting our little preschool motto!

    Kris says:

I like it when bloggers post a lot, gives me plenty to read. However, when I blog too much, people never seem to have enough time to read it.

I am one of those people who is sad anytime they check their google reader and it says (0). I then go hunting for new blogs to read, that I never like as much as the ones I read a lot now (like you!) and I end up deleting them within a few days. So keep up the posts, I enjoy them and admire you for sharing so much of yourself. It helps me to remember to be compassionate to everyone – you never know what they have been through.

Too much Beth?! NEVER! I love every word you write. I am not kidding one bit. I will read everything you post!

    Destiny says:

Beth: I would be devastated … absolutely devastated if you stopped blogging as much as you do. A little dramatic perhaps, but how else can I get my point across? As a matter of fact, I’ve found that I read too many blogs, so I am currently in the process of deleting the ones who don’t keep up with theirs so that I can have more time to focus on ones like yours. You tickle my funny bone (STUPIDSMELLYIDIOTICSCALE.) and touch my heart with your heartfelt, timely and moving posts — things I love and need in my life. Please keep doing what your doing. Destiny

  28. 28

I don’t think you’re posting too much. You’ve got a lot to talk about lately!

Counting is sometimes such a pain in the ass sometimes, isn’t it? You are absolutely right, though. We get out of it what we put into it.

Which is why I also gained this week…

  29. 29

I’ve been there so many times. And it does suck. But, there’s always tomorrow.

And no, you’re NOT blogging too much!

    Sarah M. says:

Blog too much? What’s this rubbish you speak of?! Now, I probably check your blog a little too much, but that’s besides the point. No, I’m not at the stalker level just yet, but give me time… ;)

  31. 31

You most definitely do not post too much. Blogging is so weird, because it’s hard to get feedback on stuff like that. I don’t post all that often, but when I do I am SO WORDY AND CANNOT STOP MYSELF FROM USING CAPITAL LETTERS. Sometimes I secretly edit already commented on posts because I can’t believe I let myself hit publish…

…you do not have this problem. Blog more! I dare you! We’ll all still read it and smile.

  32. 32
    Ann G says:

Personally I don’t anyone could ever post too much!! Unless they are just totally wasting space and not saying anything, ya know? But that’s my opinion and I love reading what you have to say, so there!!
Secondly, injuries are tough to deal with when you are trying to lose weight…so just do the best you can but don’t over do it, you want to be able to walk, when you have to, ya know??!!
Keep pluggin’ away at it and the weight will come off!! Keep it up!!

  33. 33
    mom, again says:

never with the too many posts. I’m a stay at home mom, living in the UK. I’m checking my email all day waiting for my friends & relations in California to wake up already & reply to my emails, take their turn on Scrabble, update their Facebook. Since they stay in bed until my dinnertime (teatime!) I read blogs all day. I’m another who goes looking for new blogs when my reader says (0). My hubby says I should write one! But that would take, you know, discipline.

    ICE Your Knee!
    Ice – Brrrr!
Compression – ace bandages are your friend!
Elevation – sit down & put your feet up! (I know, very funny!)

But seriously, a day or two of this could prevent months of problems.

  34. 34
    Michelle says:

I love your blog. Every morning I check it and I’m sad if there’s not a new posting. Kind of like checking your mail box . So, even if you posted like 20 times a day, I’d still read. Rational funny down to earth people are in short supply where I live….

    Kyooty says:

I’m a ww too, I”ve been off due to hernia recovery, or that’s what I keep telling myself. self talk I’m sure you’veheard it before. as for counting? that’s where I fail. I do succeed though at no longer being my highest weight. I’m sure you succeed there too!

  36. 36
    Audrey says:

Blogging too much. Not a chance. I enjoy keeping up with you on here. :)

  37. 37
    Jen says:

If you are injured then you need to let your knee heal. Even Jillian would say that. There’s a point where you need to work through the pain but the swelling stage isn’t it. But hang in there.

And blogging tooooo much? Nope. I don’t see a (47) next to your name, usually just a (3). :D
