You Capture – rustic.

By Beth
Apr 15, 2009

This week should have been a lot of fun for me with rustic being our subject for You Capture, but I put it off and then the weather was cold and then I’d put it off again and then it would rain and then I put it off again and then I finally said “screw it” this cabinet in my kitchen is rustic.

rustic - cabinet

And it is, isn’t it?

But then tonight, Brian and I took the kids out for dinner and shoe shopping (for me!), which is rare (the dinner out on a school night) and since we were already out driving around and the fact that the sky was blue and the sun was brilliant, well, I was encouraged to drive around a bit to take some photos.  And I’m so glad I did.

I love rustic.  I drive by this scene every single day.  To some it may look old and in need of repair, but for me?  It’s history and hard work.  It’s beautiful, in it’s own not-obvious sorta way.

I hope you had as much as fun as I did.  Remember, there is no wrong way to shoot for each week’s “assignment.”  There is no boundary to your creativity, which is why I make each week’s “assignment” such a broad topic.  It’s up to you, you can do no wrong!
Now it’s your turn, but first, just a few things to keep in mind:

1.  You can join in on this challenge at any time!  We welcome & love new participants.
2.  Please make sure you are linking directly to your specific You Capture post in Mr. Linky (and not just your site, for instructions, go here) and please make sure you are linking back to this challenge in your post.  If you don’t abide by this, your link will be removed.  (I know, I’m so mean.)
3.  Try your hardest not to reuse a picture from your archives, the goal of You Capture is to get you moving with your camera, get creative!  Challenge yourself!
4.  Do your best to visit the other participants’ site – everyone loves the traffic, the comments and the feedback!
5.  And finally, post as many pictures as you want on your post.

oh same here – I kept waiting for the perfect day and the weather has not been helping! Too much rain – I wanted to get over to our old church, but never did. So alas my house had to do. AND that latch / window is in your house? I want to see more!!!!!!!! Love your outing photos!

Beth, I love how you captured the sun in the last picture. Do you shade your lens to keep it from glaring?

Wow. I love these photos and your words. I didn’t get anything this week. Just a photo I took of my mom’s old dog that I thought looked rustic but it was too blurry.

Great captures, Beth, as always! That kitchen cabinet must be a new addition, because I can’t for the life of me remember where it is in your kitchen! Do tell :)

Love, love the old truck and sun flare shots over the barn. You’ve really mastered them, girl!

I was a total loss of creativity this week and didn’t participate. I was too busy painting and cleaning and all that fun stuff. Can’t wait to see what everyone else came up with…and next week’s challenge? Letters? I can do letters!

Your pictures are great again! I love how you focused on the hardware on your rustic cabinet in the kitchen and I love the picture of the car without an engine. (I hope you don’t love it because you think it reminds you of the cars we used to drive.) And I’m very impressed with the detail you captured on the silo. They’re all really good pictures!

Hi! Thanks so much for the challenge. I just found it a couple days ago so the best I could do was finally getting around to PP on an image I’ve loved for a couple weeks. Thanks for giving me motivation to post more. Your pictures are gorgeous!

    Catie says:

You have such mad skillz! I am so jealous…

    Lolli says:

I love rustic, too. I drive by an old house frequently, and I’m always tempted to stop and take a picture of it. It’s beautiful. But I chicken out because I’m afraid they’d come out and yell at me. ;)

    Kari says:

RUSTIC ROCKS!!! Old barns are my absolute FAV….which is why your 3rd shot is my fav!!! Wow, that little bit of sun coupled with the old blue wood of the barn, etc……incredible capture! They are all fab but that is aaahhh, yes….awesome! This was a great challenge….the weather didn’t work for me either this week. But I love your challenges cause they keep giving me ideas for captures…..you ROCK!! :D

    Allie says:

Oh wow …. your pictures are so peaceful, allowing one to dream no matter what the theme is. Great job!

  30. 30

Ooooh! I love that first one, Beth! And the last one, too. I like how the sun is just right. Did you do any editing to that one? All of them are very nice.

I had a really rough time with this one!! Like, REALLY tough! Way to inspire, Lady! :-)

I am in love with that old truck! One of the best things about Texas for me is the amount of small towns with old stuff sitting around in it.
I enjoyed this one, but I did have to look up the definition before I went out! Ha!

  37. 37
    Bellamomma says:

I love the sun flare ~ I tried to do a few shots like that the other night & I couldn’t get them to show up right in the shot. It’s like the camera kept diffusing the light or refocusing to even the tone. I have my white balance on outdoor, would that mess up the shot?

  38. 38
    Audrey says:

I love how you captured the sun. Fabulous! :)

  39. 39
    Dcan says:
