I’ve got more answers to your questions…
Nell at She Snaps wants to know…
What’s your favorite color M&M? Okay, this is where I need the help of my readers…I do not have a favorite color M&M, I mean, they’re all chocolate, so they’re all my favorite, but then I had a discussion with Candy Extraordinaire Erin and she actually had a very serious, well thought out answer, she likes a series of colors like blue and then yellow, etc, etc.
Do you have a favorite color? Am I the strange one or is it Erin? (please say Erin, please say Erin…)
Nell also asks – Out of all the prints for sale in your shop, which one is your most favorite and why?
hmmm…let me go take a look. I am pretty sure it changes based on my mood. My absolute favorite ones are the ones of James and Jake’s trees. Someone ordered this print in a 16×20 and I have to say, it was positively breathtaking. And I don’t say that about my own photos.
But right now, my favorite non-tree one is Soon…

I love the promise of it, the colors, the editing, the textures, I love that I took it while on an amazing walk with Ariel and Racecar. And the print itself is gorgeous.
(p.s. you all know that Ariel and Racecar are not their real names, right?)
The next question is from Bacardi Mama. I want to know how it feels to be able to take such amazing pictures and then have them be so good that people want to buy them?
Um…well, this question makes me blush and I hesitate to answer it without sounding like some sort of jerk, but I can tell you that it’s completely unreal to me. Like, I often wonder if people are buying prints because they feel sorry for me, because I have a hard time believing that people actually think MY work is THAT good. It’s humbling and amazing.
I have this thing, it’s a little selfish, but it’s still my thing, that I love for something of me to be in people’s houses. So, often for birthdays, I buy something small for a home and then when the recipient sees it on any given day, they can think, oh, that’s from Beth. And that brings me happiness. So, the idea that people across the country have MY PRINTS on their walls is simply beautiful and downright amazing.
CONFESSION TIME: I see that many shop owners on Etsy who sell prints, the photographer often signs the prints, I consider doing this but I don’t want to seem full of myself, what do you guys honestly think? Pointless? or a good thing? (be honest, I can take it.)
Bacardi Mama also wants to know: How do you get to do all the great things you get to do through blogging?
ah, the million dollar question. I have been blogging for FORTY months. Over three years. I have spent much of that time figuring out what kind of blogger I want to be…which is just someone who comes here and shares with people what occurs on a daily basis and what occurs in my heart and in my mind. My blog is me. That is all. I do not worry about traffic, I did not start my blog to get free things, I had no idea blogging was so big when I started, I only read Tracey’s blog and that’s it.
All I know is that PR/marketing firms contact me on a daily basis wanting me to promote their product. 95% of the items thrown in my direction are turned down. I do not want my blog to be a commercial, I consider each opportunity carefully. With that, my guess is that PR firms find me through technorati (which I believe is a blog ranking website??)
What is my biggest traffic building tip? Visit other blogs, leave comments, interact, get to know other bloggers. Blogging is a community, it isn’t just about you. Everyone loves comments. The end. Even me. When I picture so many people coming to my blog and reading and then leaving without letting me know they stopped by, it’s honestly a little disheartening. (although I understand, I do the same thing sometimes…)
Lori asks: Do you find it stressful to come up with new blog material all the time? How do you come up with all the new ideas and topics?
First of all, Lori told me that my blog is her all time favorite blog and that means so much to me. THANK YOU, LORI. What an amazing compliment!
So, do I find it stressful? No, I honestly do not. Since I just blog about me and my life I seem to always have something to write about. What I’m not always in the mood to do is write. When I’m not in the mood to write, I just can’t do it.
Melissa asks Where do you order your prints from? And, what’s your favorite book?
I order my prints from a company that caters to business entities, but I do know that there are many printing facilities out there that will print high quality prints for anyone. I have to imagine that Kodak does a great job and also Mpix may be a good option, as well.
My favorite book? The Time Traveler’s Wife and I also just finished Twilight and I loved it. (Twilight was a total turn-on for me. I had no idea.)
The next question goes to Show Some Lovin’. She says I love all of your pictures – just wondering how you became interested in photography and also how you became more advanced in your skill? Thank you! I’m not sure how I became interested, I’ve always had an interest. I think overall I am a creative person and photography was just the perfect thing for me since I can’t draw, paint, sing, etc. I take lots of pictures, I can honestly say that taking pictures is what is making me better at what I do. I firmly believe that everyone has an inner photographer inside of them, you just have to find it and hone the skill. Last year I took a course or two but they weren’t very good, BUT they did teach me about shutter speed, so that’s something.
Final question comes from Arianne, she wants to know: how often do you shave your legs? At least once a week…sometimes even twice a week during the warmer months.

Oh Beth, you always make me chuckle. Just love you and your great blog.
m&m’s.. hmm.. my favorite is probably brown. just because it seems the purest.. (isn’t that weird??)

Youm don’t want to let down antique road show.. now do you???????
I’ve actually wondered if new readers realize your kids names arent really ariel and racecar!!
Ariel could be a real name.. but really.. who would name their kid racecar!
Actually ever since you told me thier real names, I’ve wondered if one of you kids and one of your friends kids with the same name are around the same age.. cause thats just too funnny!
and I’ll try to stop coming by and not leaving a comment.. that would bug me too.. so i’ll try to stop!
just try not to get sick of me..
oh.. and I think you should DEFINITLY sign your pictures. What happens in a hundred years when someone takes one of your pictures onto antique road show and they dont know who took it!
I read 4 blogs EVERY day – yours being one of them. I am pretty new to blogging and have some ‘catch up’ to do. I have also tried to read all of your older posts too! I think you are a very talented writer and photographer and an amazing mom!
I don’t leave a comment everytime I visit because I don’t want to seem stalker-like – that’s weird! Well…maybe I AM weird!
At any rate, thanks for your candor and for answering all of those questions!!
Have a super day.
I finished the Twilight series a couple of months ago and thoroughly enjoyed them. I actually re-read some of New Moon a few days ago.
I was very surprised at how much I liked the story, and laughed at myself when I couldn’t wait to go find the next book in the series. I suggest going to Stephanie Meyer’s website to read about how she came up with the story for Twilight (if you haven’t done so already). She seems to write how she thinks, and it feels like you get to know her a little. I like that – and that’s one of the reason’s I like your blog. You seem to write how you think (or as you think) and we lucky readers get to know Beth. And how she should be folding laundry.
I am going to be stalking these comments to see if I’m the weirdo or you are. My bets are on you!
I don’t have a favorite M&M either, so one vote for you!
Amy F just lent me “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. I loved, loved, loved the book. I could not put it down. I love your photos too! Beautiful!
LOVE your blog and your photography!!! Keep up the good work!!
I have nothing quippy to say. Just that I’m sorry I’ve been reading without commenting and I’ll try to make up for it. Adultery sucks and then you don’t comment.
Green M&M’s…hands down. Don’t know why, but they seem to be the ones I gravitate too.
I would sign the pictures, they are your artwork!!!
I love your blog, too! I love your photography, and time travellers wife and Twilight, and my favorite M&M’s are the blue ones for some wierd reason!
Hmmm… I don’t really have a favorite M&M. (Sorry, Erin!)
You can email me more info on the printing company if you want. Hint, Hint. ;o)
I’ve always thought that all M&M’s were created equal. They all taste the same to me and that taste is delicious.
How in the world do you get away with shaving once or twice a week? I must be one hairy mammoth of a woman because I have to shave every day or else I’m scaring small children.
HAHA – you’re a riot. Always inter sting to see if people have a favorite color, even though they all taste the same.
I love the picture you picked out. I know that is a hard question to ask since most photographers eye changes almost daily, in what they find beautiful or as their favorite.
I really love that shot you linked to, that your customer ordered so large. I bet that is going to be AMAZING! It made me think about getting it, too. One thing I don’t like about my D40 is Kodak is telling me my picture quality won’t be good past a 8×10, so that is a bit disappointing.
Fun stuff … thanks for answering my questions.

I loved Time Travelers Wife too. They’re making a movie with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams. I’ll be the first in line.
I love these question/answer posts.
I’m honored that you answered both of my questions. I absolutely think you should sign your prints. Please feel free to start with mine. I don’t think it makes you full of yourself. I think it means you are proud of your work.
I also vote for signing your work, it’s Yours! it’s your STAMP on the world so to speak.
I love this post. It’s nice getting to know you a little better.
And I think YES you should sign your prints! It’s your talent behind the lens so you should definitely have your name on it!
Just a bit of background. I first found you when I joined the Sisterhood and thoroughly enjoyed your life written through your blog along with your photographs. You write in such a way that it’s like you’re having a conversation with the reader and I love that. And now you’re on my Google reader. I never miss a post!
Sign your prints. The End. I used to not sign my paintings until someone told me that the signature is part of the work. That made sense to me.
You are an artist. You should sign your work. I would love nothing more than to have a signed print of YOURS on my wall.
I say sign your prints. But do so in a way that doesn’t take away from the photo. I find a place to subtly place my name in there somewhere. I have an etsy shop but have never uploaded a print to sell. Even though that is what I give as gifts to friends & family. I am thinking that I am going to start and that all the proceeds will be going to help me get to CA next year for the Fibromyalgia Awareness walk and towards my fundraising goal. But alas, this is just a pipe dream.
I don’t have a favorite M & M either……. the faster I get them in my mouth the better…..lol
Sign your prints, even if you only do it on the backside.
They sign the actual print? I think that’s weird. Signing a mat is one thing, that’s o.k. But I think signing a print is weird.
And I have no explanation as to why I feel that way.
I still haven’t started the Twilight series. So many books, so little time.
Brown M&Ms are the best. They are the chocolatiest, obviously!
I don’t like it when I buy photography and it is signed, it is too SOMETHING. I had Zoe’s picture done and the lady signed it and it ruined it for me.
Some people take the blogging way too seriously. The fact that even one person reads it and gets where I am coming from, well that’s why I keep doing it.
To summarize: I think you rock. The end.
I hope kris wins too. I have not cared for adam since day one.
It looks like the votes for favorite color vs. not are pretty much even. So maybe we’re both weirdos?
Also, I want you to write a note on my print. Something like: Dear Erin, It is a pleasure to give this print to the hottest person I have ever met. You are BREATHTAKING.
XOXO, Beth
I do not have a favorite color m&m because they all taste the same. I wish I could get away with shaving my legs only twice a week in the summer. I shave every other day. I’m hoping to order some prints when we have some money. But first we have to pay some bills. Darn.
Sign the prints.
I’m thinking you are weird and that Erin rocks because when I eat M&Ms (which are my favorite candy btw) I pour them all out and eat them in order of least favorite to favorite…orange, yellow, blue, red, green, brown…wait, maybe I’m weird.
I so hope Kris wins!!
LOVE the blog and ALL the great pictures!!!!!
You just THOUGHT Randy just got done at clown school last night. Just tuned in for the finale and MY WORD I do believe he has enrolled in clown college. I just had to come back and say that (but now that the commercial is over…gotta go)!
Hey! I looking back at your blog and saw your question about signing prints. I always sign mine. Granted, I’ve never SOLD ANY, but I do sign them. (I printed a few for a craft sale last year. I also have a show up right now, and I signed those as well.) I feel a bit pretentious, but I do it anyway.
Oh, I mean sign the mat, not the print. But I think I’d only sign my “fine art” stuff, not what I print for others…
