***The surgery is done, we have been home since 9:30 this morning and he is doing amazingly well. He and I have enjoyed a three hour nap and lots of ice cream. He’s also had a record number of popsicles, jello and yogurt today. I think he thinks today is pretty awesome. You know, besides the whole surgery/throat hurting part. Daddy picked up a new Wii game today, they’re going over the rules right now. Thanks for all of the well wishes, you guys are the best. ***
I was getting ready to post some photos and maybe a few stories about our family vacation, but then one of the pictures I came across was this one and well, I just want to write about him.

It’s very likely, I’m sure, that we are the only ones that think he is so unbelievably cute, but I’m pretty sure we are not alone. I mean, LOOK at those eyes.
But if you were to meet him? Oh my gosh, you would melt because he truly is the sweetest boy to walk this earth. (I just know it.) (Okay, maybe he’s in the top 10. With your child, of course!)
Yesterday morning, we woke up in a hotel. We always stay at Holiday Inn Express. Ariel thinks we stay there for their wonderful warm cinnamon rolls, but really we stay there because we get a discount. Brian took both the kids to grab some breakfast, Ariel, not surprisingly, chose a cinnamon roll, Racecar chose yogurt and a banana.
DANG HIM FOR BEING SO CUTE AND HEALTHY.

He’s a kisser and hugger and a sharer and a teacher and he’s completely patient. When we went to the store to buy the kids fishing poles, they didn’t have any for boys, but they had them for girls. Rather than throwing a tantrum because she got something he didn’t, we told him that we would had to go to another store and he said “okay…that’s fine.“ And continued on his merry way.
He has such a merry way.
Almost daily he says “this is the best day of my whole entire life.“ And almost daily he says “I love everybody in the whole world.”
I want to live like him I want to love like him.
But sometimes he does want to punch scary monsters in the face because they are losers and he’s a winner. But he only admits these things in the middle of night when he’s feeling a little bit frightened.
But mostly, he loves his Mom and his Dad AND his sister, “so so so so so so so so so much.” And tells us we are the best. And he usually tells me this first thing in the morning. Can you imagine waking up to such ridiculous sweetness? It’s amazing.

So, tomorrow, at 7 in the morning, we’ll arrive at the surgery center where they are going to put tubes in his wonderful ears and remove his adenoids.
A few months ago, Brian and I realized that he was having trouble hearing, after a few days of watching and “testing” we called a specialist. He failed a hearing test and also has fluid in both of his ears. (after months of checking and rechecking) Although Tuesday is going to be so hard on him, it’s going to be so good for him. His hearing will return to normal as soon as the tubes are in.
Since he was a baby, Brian has called him “big friend.” And he is just that…a big friend, with a big heart, big beautiful brown eyes and the most amazing big smile.
I can’t wait until we are back home tomorrow afternoon.

I totally agree that Racecar is unbelievably cute. He is by far one of the best little boys I have ever met and in my profession, I meet a lot of little boys. I’ll say a special prayer for him. Give him a big hug from me!
Good luck and best wishes for tomorrow – it’s amazing how much the tubes can help with the hearing.
He IS so cute!! You all will be in my thoughts tomorrow!
my almost 3 year old had his tubes put in 4 months ago. It is AMAZING the difference it makes immediately! Good luck!! He is a cutie.
Good luck tomorrow!
Goodluck with the operation! I’ll check back for news
What a sweetheart! I hope all goes well. Are you at an outpatient surg center? Because if you were are the big hospital, we might meet. The Mr. is going in for his 5th surgery for this dang kidney stone thing this morning.
Good luck Racecar!!! You are going to do fabulous! You too Beth. Easy as pie! Boo has been through it twice, no problems! HUGS!!!
Best Wishes for Racecar’s health on Tuesday and truckloads of ice cream;)
Best wishes, Racecar!!!
Beth:
This is the best post ever. He is such a handsome boy, and who could not love those beatuiful eyes. Good luck Racecar, I am sure you will do well. It is so much harder on us mother’s to see our precious kids go through these things in life. Good luck little man!! My thoughts are with you.
Hugs!!!
Praying for you guys today. ((HUGS))
He is precious…but it’s his smile that got me! Gotta love a child with a sweet spirit…
He looks so sweet and handsome! I’m glad his hearing will go back to normal; best wishes!
Oh I love this post!
He is an amazing boy and he is going to make such an impact in this world and it will be amazing.
If we would only love like the racecar…
I hope he gets all the popsicles he wants after surgery!!
He sounds so sweet! I love the first picture of him. His eyes are glimmering, he is such a happy boy!
I love that first picture…definitely catches little man’s essence. Praying for his operation and hoping that all goes well and that you get home safe and sound and quickly (how is that for a run on sentence. Take care!!
I will keep Racecar in my thoughts and prayers today…my son Steven had this done when he was a year old and that cut out his ear infections totally…he is now 25 years old and still a cutie pie…
He is now a high school band director…
Praying for your “Big Friend” today. Hugs.
I had a brief moment yesterday when I told my dd that when I grew up, I wanted to be her. Sometimes that happens. Good luck in surgery Racecar – I know you’ll do great!
in my prayers this very moment. i know all will go smoothly and you will be home quickly!
I seriously want to fold him up and put him in my back pocket. He is so stinkin’ cute.
I hope everything goes well today!
He has always been one amazing kid…really like a dream boy. I wish he was more around us, so he could rub off on Colin. Unfortunetly all the boys that Colin hangs out with are too “boyish” (does that make sense???). He used to be my sweet little love, but now he talks about guns (although he still doesn’t know how to hold up his hand right, its hilarious). Sigh. Knew it would be a matter of time, but still.
He will definitely be in my prayers for a successful surgery!
Gah. He IS gorgeous! :0)
I’m late to the party, but I wanted to say, from what I saw on Twitter, I’m glad his surgery went well. I hope it helps.
We’re doing it next week (eye surgery on the little one) and I’m getting sceeeeered!
xoxo
Racecar is so amazingly adorable! Sending prayers that everything goes smoothly and now won’t have an excuse to ignore you when you tell him to clean his room!
Wow! That sounds like a pretty awesome kid. No doubt that some of that sweetness is thanks to having a very loving family around him
Hope all goes well with the tubes.
We recently had tubes put in my son’s ears and are ‘watching’ his adenoids. The tubes were the best medical decision I have ever made for them. They tube part of the surgery appeared to be realtively painless. We noticed within hours my son’s balance was better and he started speaking more clearly and picking up mountains of new words. I’ll say prayers for your awesome friend tomorrow and mom and dad too!
Wow – he sounds awesome!! And he’s adorable too. I hope all goes well with the surgery. It’s so scary when your kids have to go through that. I hope it is all quick and easy for your sake as well as his.
Lina
He is amazing. And they don’t come out that way, ya know — you and Brian had SOMETHING to do with it.
Sending loads of good thoughts for an uneventful surgery and quick recovery!
I know he just had surgery, but punch him for being so damn cute!
He is indeed incredibly adorable. Lucky you to be his mama.
Aww, such a cute guy! Hope all went well today! Give him extra hugs and kisses (and ice cream)!
He is gorgeous. I hope everything goes as easily as possible and your sweet boy is eating all the ice cream he can eat in no time.
Also? Will you take pictures of my kids? Beautiful.
I will think good thoughts about him for his surgery. I am sure it will be a huge success.
Such a lovely post about such a lovely boy! I would definitely put Racecar in the top 10 for sweetness and cuteness
.
Good luck with the surgery tomorrow, I’ll be thinking of you.
Oh! He is adorable! I can just feel the overwhelming “mom love” in your post! Sending a few prayers for a smooth day tomorrow and quick healing for that little cutie!
It isn’t just you, Beth. He is precious. Hope you are all home and resting now!
I have one like him. She’s 18 now. We learned very early that one of the reasons for her sunny, optimistic disposition (aside from the fact that she is sunny and optimistic) is that she has a very high pain threshold. Life’s pretty good when you don’t feel much pain. I’m guessing that if he had fluid in his ears and wasn’t complaining, he probably has a very high pain threshold, along with a really good disposition. And being so cute doesn’t hurt, either.
What a sweet post about a sweet boy. I’m glad that his surgery went well.
I’m so glad that everything went well today. I’m sure he is thrilled with the new Wii game. I still have to come over and take him up on his Indiana Jones challenge. Give him a big hug from me, please.
What a wonderful photo of him. And I am so glad that he came out of the surgery okay. The Chicken had that surgery done and it helped her hearing so much. Altho I still wonder at times when I can hear her iPod clear as day when she is in the back of the van.
You are so blessed to have such a sweet boy as your son. And it sounds like he handled his surgery really well. Yay for lots of ice cream! : )
Oh, he is too precious. He sounds like such a little sweetheart!
Hope he’s feeling better.
Yay for Racecar being such a trooper! And well, so stinking cute! Could I have him for awhile? I think our sons would get a long pretty well!
My son had the surgery back in March and came through with flying colours. However, it is now looking like the tonsils will have to come out this fall … ugh …
