Sightings

Friday, July 24th, 2009
By Beth

Hi friends.

I wanted to check in with you from Blogher.  It’s been a pretty good experience, although some aspects have been frustrating and others appalling, the rest has been really great.  I love being with my friends and I love meeting new people.

(and since this isn’t over until tomorrow night, I’m really hoping to meet many, many more of you, m’kay?)

Tonight was unbelievably exciting for me.

I MET THE PIONEER WOMAN.

I enjoy her site so much, the way she writes, her family, her PHOTOGRAPHY.  I love that’s she’s positive and friendly.

(The fact that she often shares photos of handsome cowboys in their chaps is just icing on the cake.)

I saw her from afar and I got real brave, approached her and we talked for a little bit and then I met Marlboro Man and then we took pictures of each other and with each other.

It was wonderful.

Meeting her and him, was definitely a highlight for me, not just for this weekend, but pretty much forever.

(more photos and updates to come!)

You Capture – Black & White

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
By Beth

I particularly loved this week because I could shoot anything I wanted and although I never had a chance to head out and take photos like I wanted, I did get to take photos of Erin’s baby and her family and that fed my soul quite nicely.

I really enjoyed taking photos of Erin and the baby, so beautiful, so powerful, so sweet.

Here are a few of my shots:

Welcome, Tommy.

The other set is a sneak peek of my new skirt that an amazing Etsy shop owner sent me to wear to Blogher, I’ll give you more details on it later, but it’s AMAZING.  In the photo, you can see my toes.  I realized recently how much I despise my toes, so the fact that they are making an appearance on my blog is my bravery showing.  (and also proves I should take more photos.)

And then my girl, my beautiful six and a half year old.  She inspires me and tonight she called me cute.

Now it’s your turn but please read through these really important guidelines first!

Some of you are signing Mr. Linky which is beautiful and awesome but you’re not linking back to You Capture which is NOT beautiful and awesome.  So, if you are new here…just a quick run through of the directions (below) would be very much appreciated, k?  I will be deleting links for those that aren’t complying this week which is annoying because deleting links is annoying.

1.  You can join in on this challenge at any time!  We welcome & love new participants.
2.  Please make sure you are linking directly to your specific You Capture post in Mr. Linky (and not just your site, for instructions, go here) and please make sure you are linking back to this challenge in your post.  If you don’t abide by this, your link will be removed.  (I know, I’m so mean.)
3.  Try your hardest not to reuse a picture from your archives, the goal of You Capture is to get you moving with your camera, get creative!  Challenge yourself!
4.  Do your best to visit the other participants’ site – everyone loves the traffic, the comments and the feedback (not just you!)
5.  And finally, post as many pictures as you want on your post.

Thanks, I love you, bye.

FRIENDS.

Happy capturing!

Very Chicago

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
By Beth

There’s this feeling that Chicago gives you once you step foot on it’s sidewalks, it’s so alive, it’s so friendly and it’s really quite clean.

I love it and am so excited to be spending three nights there starting tomorrow.  It’s pretty weird for me because the last time I stayed that long in Chicago was when we lived there.

I’m just now starting to feel anxious about leaving this family that I adore so much, but I also believe that everyone needs a break.  Me from them…them from me.  Me from Brian…Brian from, no wait, I’m SURE Brian doesn’t need a break from me.

I can tell by the way he’s brought up the luggage from the basement, done all of the laundry and practically packed my bags for me.  All without me asking him to do so.

Okay, that’s a lie.  (especially the laundry part.)

I am feeling very nervous about the whole “meeting new people” thing…I’m just nervous, anxious, excited, scared and um…nervous.

Anyway, I’m overly overwhelmed (OMG, I know it doesn’t make sense, leave me alone) I’ve got my laundry to do, Brian’s laundry, the kids laundry, a house to clean, myself to pack, outfits to plan, schedules to input into my iPhone, returns to make at stores and of course, I must allow time for ice cream.

So, how about some pictures…of Chicago.  I took these last weekend.

If you are going to Blogher…aren’t you excited?  And also, tell me in the comments if you’ll  be there.  I hope to meet so many of you, don’t be shy!

Oh wait?  What’s that?  You want a picture of Racecar?  Okay fine…just for you.  I do anything for you.

Photo Adventures

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
By Beth

The fact that I am being sponsored by Snapfish for Blogher just makes sense for about 100 reasons, but one of the main reasons is that Snapfish and Leapfrog are teaming up together to create a “Snapfish Summer Photo Adventure” for parents and children to enjoy through photography.

(I haven’t mentioned to you that I am also a LeapFrog Ambassador, more on that later.)

LeapFrog + Snapfish summer fun project = something I want to tell you about.

snapfish_logo2

The two companies are teaming up to encourage you to take photos documenting your summer fun with your family.  (hopefully most of us are doing that anyway, RIGHT?! Please tell me you are, if you are not, step away from the computer, pick up your camera and get busy with that camera.  After this post, though, m’kay?)

Families are encouraged to take photos of specific theme related activities and upload them to a scavenger hunt map.  Within each theme there are seven challenges.  Here are the themes:

-coastal adventure
-theme parks
-camping & outdoors
-fun & games around the home

Once challenges are completed, participants will receive 50% off of a collage poster from Snapfish.  If you complete all of the challenges within the themes, you’ll receive a free 5×7 photobook which can be completely customized by you.

PLUS – you can earn discounts off of Leapfrog products for completing projects and be entered to win products by LeapFrog, specifically a Tag Junior, each time you complete a challenge.

For more info about this adventure, click here.  And by the way, not only are you receiving free products and discounts from two family friendly companies, but you are also creating a great way to record your summer fun with your family and really that’s about the greatest thing you can do.

Don’t you think?

Dates

Monday, July 20th, 2009
By Beth

daisy close

July 20th, 2008 was James and Jake’s due date.  It’s also my Mom’s birthday.  Last year, my mom and I shopped for the landscaping for my yard and planted everything, it took us all day.  We ended the day, dirty and exhausted, somber.

We ate pizza and cake.

This year feels so different.  I started out the morning in a  great mood, probably because my kids slept until nine.  I checked my phone and had four exciting emails.  One of which was from Snapfish saying they’d like to sponsor me for Blogher, which lifts a huge financial burden from us.

This morning, I redesigned my Mom’s blog, took a shower, tried to plan out outfits for Blogher, we ate lunch and now I’ve decided I need a little rest before finishing up the rest of my to-do list, which is quite long.

But most importantly on that list is dinner and cake with my Mom.  This year feels so different than last year, not nearly as somber. We are excited to be celebrating my Mom’s birthday and excited about everyday in general, but today, in particular is extra special.

Because July 20th is back to being my Mom’s birthday.  Which I think is really cool.
