Always changing
ByI am back home in Indiana and so much has changed since I departed on Wednesday.
Anna lost her first tooth. While I was gone. Her first tooth. I’m so sad that I missed this milestone, one that she has been anticipating since the dentist said “this tooth is a little bit loose” back in June. We didn’t think it was loose, but that’s all Anna needed to hear and she brought it up everyday and had me check it everyday.
Three months later, it fell out, before I had even arrived at the airport. Crazy thing.
The tooth fairy waited to come until last night so that I could see the tooth before she took it away. (she’s a very nice, patient, little fairy) Which means the tooth fairy came on a Friday night, which means Anna woke up too early this morning, AT 6:45 ON A SATURDAY because she was so excited. DO NOT EVER DO THIS. That is award winning advice. You are welcome.
Another thing that happened was both of the kids caught colds. I blame school starting. Kids and school are dirty, germy things. That in itself seriously makes me want to home school.
Also, Noah started wearing socks. All of the time, “except in the bathtub.” This is interesting because he has never enjoyed wearing socks. He still had to wear them to school everyday, despite his feelings towards socks, but now he never wants to take them off. Which makes me sad. His toes are extremely cute.
Finally, Brian bought a van. HE DID! WITHOUT ME! I need to go on record saying that I am SO.THRILLED that I missed the rest of the experience. To me, buying a brand new car is fun, buying a good, used car is hard, really hard. But I am so happy with the way that we did it. Tons of investigating, ridiculous amounts of shopping around and we came in right at our budget.
And the car? Is beautiful. While I was in Minneapolis, Brian drove over 600 miles total looking for cars, all while dropping the kids off, being home for them when the bus drops them off, taking care of homework. lunches and dinner. Oh and also while WORKING FROM HOME. He turned into Super Man. Well, he was always Super Man, but he turned into Super Man times SIX THOUSAND.
We bought a Toyota Sienna in perfect condition…it’s beautiful. I’m serious. It’s beautiful.
And the trip to Minneapolis? Was so fun and we really did eat the entire time.
More on that to come…

it’s amazing how quickly kids can change! yay on the patient fairy.
And then, those lose those little teeth and start growing BIG gigantic teeth that are bigger than their heads!
Your husband is AMAZING! What a great guy… I would give a leg to never step foot in a car dealership again.
Wow, that’s a lot for just a few days!!
Would love it if you could change back your setting to showing your full posts in google reader.
Schools are germy places. At this time last year, I’d already had strep throat. I hope Anna and Noah get well soon.
Maybe this unseasonably sucky suck weather is behind Noah’s sock decision?
I can’t wait to see your new ride. This week?
I am not looking forward to the germs that will start to invade my home come Monday.
we have a Sienna and LOVE IT!!!! Squeeeeee!!!! I am glad you have a van, with air conditioning!
Good job, Brian! Woot!
And yeah, schools are petri dishes. Blurgh. Hope the kiddos are better soon!
Yay for Superman 6000 and no fire mojo!
I feel like sometimes we think guys can’t accomplish these things…. and sometimes they don’t even both to think that they can, cause we do! But yay for him!!
Sorry you missed Anna’s tooth though – poo! xo
YAY! For the new van! And odor-free? Fan-freaking-tastic! My boy has been absolutely obsessed with socks all summer. He doesn’t understand the very real danger of being arrested by the fashion police for wearing them with his sandals. He is cute though.
P.S. Thanks for the tip about the tooth fairy taking weekends off. Will file that away for future reference!
How exciting for Anna! Sorry you missed it!
And I drive a Toyota Sienna and I LOVE it! As much as you can love driving a mini-van! Enjoy!
The Sienna is the Mom car around here and don’t tell my husband, I want one (kinda, I think). We have a Subaru (I LOVE it!), it’s the “we only have 1-2 kids and are stopping at that” car here. Enjoy! Oh, and I have tucked away your tooth fairy tip-The Tooth Fairy only works Sun-Thurs nights. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Woohoo on the car!! So glad you were able to find one in great condition in your budget. *happy dance*
Awww about Anna’s tooth. Such a patient fairy, though.
You’re going to LOVE that Sienna. We bought ours in ‘04 and still seems like new. Haven’t had a lick of problems with it and it’s a dream to travel in. I took it to Texas last summer (we live in Missouri) and had no qualms about making the drive alone in our reliable van.
I am glad to hear that you like you new van. That is the same type of van we would like to buy someday, so anytime I find someone who has one I always have to ask how they like it.
Wow it’s amazing how eventful things can get while you’re gone. Obviously some are good to miss and the ones that aren’t so good can be made up for anyway because the tooth fairy was sweet enough to wait for you. Congrats on the Sienna. I can’t wait to see it.
The Sienna is the one mini-van that might change my loathing of mini-van. Might, almost, but probably not. Enjoy it
Found your blog on Top Blog Area. Have enjoyed reading your blogs, and I LOVE your design and layout! Would love for you to stop by my blog, Boy Crazy (www.boycrazymom.com). Looking forward to reading more!
What color van? lol, we just traded ours in a little bit ago
I totally need a mini van. (I NEVER thought I would speak – or type – those words) Glad your man found you a good one. I mean your Super MAN!
And yay for Anna on the tooth but sorry you missed it. At least there are many more to lose!
ok … now i REALLY don’t want to go back to school. the germy comment made me remember. and to think … both of us will be there. uck.
welcome home!! good thing you were only gone for a few days….imagine how much more would have been waiting for you when you got home!!
I LOVE the Toyota Sienna also…we have a Honda Odyssey…my next mini van is going to be the Sienna!!! Congratulations on everything!!! xoxoxo
Congrats on the new van. You are now in my club. Van’s are the best when you have kids. Carter lost a tooth too while you were away. I’m glad you guys had a good trip and thanks for helping look out for little miss Ivy who is on the run these days.
I’m glad you love the van!
And I don’t think children should be allowed to do things like lose teeth when their Mom isn’t home. Or grow. They shouldn’t do that either.
When Boo went to South Dakota with my Dad I made her promise not to loose her tooth. It wasn’t her first, but I still didn’t want to miss it.
Yay to Brian for takin’ care of biz-nass while the Mrs. was gone. Good job, Super-Dad! BTW, awesome choice on the van, too, Sienna’s are AWESOME! We have a 2006 and we love it SO SO much!
We bought a Sequoia in April – I love Toyotas! TK4 went out and researched it and picked it out and negotiated it. All that I had to do was show up and sign away my trade-in. It was fantastic!
UGH!! What’s with all the foreign cars? Bummer—buy American! The Midwest has been hit so hard…
…my 2 cents
I would have loved to have bought American, however, we went wanted to go with the van with the highest safety ratings and the vehicle with the highest Consumer Report ratings and that was the Toyota Sienna. When we are spending that type of money, we need to know we are going to get a good quality vehicle that will last us a long time.
We actually feel quite good that the car was not only manufactured in USA, but more specifically in our home state of Indiana.
Ok, seriously your husband is amazing. How great to come home to a new car AND the house didn’t burn down AND your kids didn’t have to make a visit to the ER. I think with most guys you might get 1 out of 3 if your lucky.
