You Capture – Peace

August 19th, 2009

Hi friends.  I am almost too tired to write this post.  My kids started school today and I was up way too much throughout the night, tossing and turning and then up way too early this morning and now I am exhausted.  (by the way, if I ever do not post You Capture on Wednesday night, it will be up on Thursday morning, I promise.)

Anyway.

PEACE.  I hope you all felt peace while photographing PEACE this week.

I did.  I took my kids to the park and sat underneath a tree and looked up and peace was staring at me, it was like it was being served to me on a platter.

These images, my children’s laughter in the background and the most gentle breeze.  Perfect peace.

It’s not much, but it’s my peace.

First Day

August 19th, 2009

We all had first day jitters, Anna and I more than Brian and Noah.  (which is so not surprising.)

They woke up right on time and ate a great breakfast, spirits were high.  They were ready 20 minutes early.

I can’t believe how old they seemed to me today, it was amazing and heartbreaking.  But they’re so happy and that is not heartbreaking, it’s beautiful.

Just like them.  Just like our life.

Anna July 2009

Last Friday, she learned how to ride a bike.

Her first loose tooth is so loose, it’s hard for her to eat.

Today, she set her alarm clock and her brother’s alarm clock for school tomorrow.  She also showed him how to use it.  All without any instruction from her parents.

And tomorrow she starts first grade.

I can barely keep up.

Today we had the chance to play at Lovelyn’s house.  It’s always fun and it’s always sweet and Noah likes it because he’s surrounded by five girls.

Seriously, he likes it.

And the lighting in her house is a dream, A DREAM I TELL YOU.  So, mainly I go there and take pictures and soak up all of the love.  It’s a pretty nice deal.

This is Bianca and in the background is sweet, sweet Lovelyn.

I’m not trying to make you hungry

August 17th, 2009

I’m also not trying to make you want fair food, but I must talk about what I ordered, I mean, you know Anna and Noah ate corn dogs and I was like “um…gross.“  But all of you disagreed.

Apparently, there is something wrong with me, not them.

Anyway, I ordered nachos, like supreme nachos without onions.

While I was taking this photo, Noah asked me why I was taking pictures of my food.  While I was about to reply with “it’s art,” Brian said “your Mom is a freak.”

(he just doesn’t understand.)

Now, what you can see a little bit, all nicely bokeh’d in the background, is the Deep Fried Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese bites.  Wisconsin sure does know how to deep fry their cheese.

They served their deep fried cheese with ranch dressing.  I dipped the first one in ranch and took a bite and it was a cross between heaven and paradise sprinkled with Brad Pitt.  I quickly ate the rest of it.  The kids were eyeballing me.  I asked them if they wanted to take a bite and they said “No.”

“Are you kidding me?!  You’ll eat CORN DOGS, but not this?! Have you lost your mind?  Haven’t I taught you that anything deep fried equals good?”

I was frustrated.  I mean, I have spent HOURS upon HOURS teaching my kids good values.

Not wanting to upset their Mom and also curious about the moans that were coming out of their parents with each bite, they each took a bite and proceeded to helps us (maybe a little too much) with our tray of cheese.

Don’t they look so intense?

I find it necessary to tell you that at this point, Brian and Anna got up to get Brian some corn on the cob.  The family sitting next to us found a deep fried fly in their food.  It was really gross.

I was listening to them talk about the deep fried fly and looking at my deep fried cheese and I realized…I just don’t care.  I continued to eat.

And so did the rest of us.

I’m pretty sure this is my last post about fair food, unless of course Brian and I go back the minute we drop the kids off at school on their first day.

Not that I’m making big plans or anything. *cough.*
