Life & death

September 1st, 2009

I am so amazed by the outpouring of love that you all have shown me with our announcement, it just adds to our excitement.  I can’t wait to tell you some of the details about the pregnancy so far, like how I found out, how the kids reacted when we told them and I’m sure you want to hear all about my morning sickness and how constipated I am.  Right?

RIGHT?!

I wrote last night’s post a few hours before I published it, it took me just a few minutes to write, the words just flowed and I announced our news exactly how I wanted to, just naturally and with my heart.

Twenty minutes before publishing the post, my Mom called and told me that my Grandpa had just died.  He was 95 and although we knew his health was poor, it still felt so unexpected.  It still feels so unexpected, I should say.

My heart aches because, of course, he was my Grandfather and we have so many great memories of him, but my heart aches the most for my Mom, knowing that her Dad is no longer with us.

My Grandpa joins his wife, my Grandma and because of that, I happen to feel like he is one of the luckiest people in heaven right now, because my Grandma?  Oh my, she was the best.  I have no doubt that she has been loving on our James and Jake since they died and that has brought us comfort.  So it comforts me knowing that they are together, once again.

So, this week, my posting will be light.  My entire family will be driving in from all over the country to say their final goodbyes and although we are all so sad about our loss, it’s just one more reminder that life should be celebrated.  Every day, every moment.

Oh Beth, I’m sorry for your loss.

I’m pregnant right now, and I found out that I was expecting the very same day as my father-in-law’s funeral. I’m so sad that we never got to tell him about his 15th (yes, 15th) grandchild.

It’s so true – we need to celebrate every moment of every day. Take care.

I am so so sorry… I was in a similar circumstance last summer- Grandpa, age 98, passed away. I was pregnant. And heartbroken, for my whole family, myself, & my mom. I am sad for you but also so happy that during this time you can at least remember the positive, the happy & the blessings in your life, while your new baby grows. And as you pointed out, your Grandpa is with your Grandma, where they can peacefully watch over your family.

Oh Beth, I am so sorry for your loss. Your grandparents are together again and that should help bring some peace to you and your family. Just think of how your grandpa is doting on James and Jake. Give your mom a big hug for me. You are all in my prayers.

I am so sorry Beth. My condolences for you and your family.

My mom died almost 2 years ago and she predicted my first 2 pregnancies before I even knew. In her last months alive I was pregnant but didnt know it and I know she would have loved meeting her 3rd grandchild.

I guess what I am trying to say is that the saying is true that when one life ends, another is beginning.

    Hugs!

    Beth,
I am so sorry for your loss, yet so super excited about your pregnancy.
My sister and her husband tried for five years to get pregnant with their first child. Our grandfather also died at age 95 and my niece Macy was concieved the same day. There is not a doubt in my mind that my Grandpa sent her from Heaven.
Best wishes to you and your family.

Oh, Beth… I am so, so sorry about your Grandfather. It is so true that it doesn’t matter that he was 95… that gives you 95 years worth of love that will be missed. It is very difficult to lose a grandparent because that person represents so much stability and love and longevity, and that person is such an integral part of your own parent. It is very difficult to watch our parents grieve… for their hearts are so sorrowful. I wish you strength at this time, both for you and your Mom… and for your entire family. I am happy at your powerful and peaceful thoughts of your grandmother in heaven with James and Jake, and now your grandfather joining this divine happiness. Thinking of you with love…
