She’s one

September 15th, 2009

I know many of you have been reading my blog for a long time, do you remember when Ivy was born?  (Stephanie from Adventures in Babywearing, her daughter.)

That was one year ago today.  My mind is blown that this year has gone by so quickly.

This afternoon, Stephanie, Erin, Sarah and I met to celebrate Ivy by going to a bakery that specializes in BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS CUPCAKES.

Ivy and I have such a fun relationship, we make mad faces at each other and we even yell at each other, but today, it was different, she was just a sweet little girl who only wanted to be sweet to me and everyone around.  Of course, I was sweet back to her, despite trying to make her make a mad face at me.  Her Mom is unbelievably sweet, so this makes total sense.

I was excited to go and take pictures of our sweet treats, but we quickly learned that this bakery will only allow photos if a person is in the shot.  Because you know, it would suck if I came here and showed you their amazing desserts and talked about what a cool place this was and everyone went there.

*sigh*  I’m not bitter or anything.

But I took a picture of the sweetest thing in the entire shop.

Ivy LaRue.

And then I took a picture of Erin’s chocolate lava cupcake, which was served warm, by the way.

Everything was delicious.  We are maybe thinking about very seriously probably definitely considering meeting their once a week.  You know, to strengthen our friendship.

Joyful with a side of morning sickness

September 14th, 2009

I had a really cool weekend.

On Friday I headed to downtown Chicago where I spent almost 24 hours with five of the coolest, smartest, most gifted and compassionate women in the entire universe.  I am convinced of this, so you must take my word for it.  Right now I can’t tell you why I did this because it’s not ready to be public, but I will and you will love it.  It has nothing to do with blogging or the blog world or marketing (THANK GOD)…it has to do with LIFE and creating the best life and oh…you will love it.

I know I’ve said that twice.  That’s because it’s true.

I came home from Chicago at four on Saturday, Brian, the kids and I were supposed to jump into the car and head to the last two hours of a local festival.  I walked into the door, the kitchen was clean and I could hear tapping.  The kids didn’t come running to me, everything was calm.  I walked into the living and there they were, Brian, Anna and Noah playing The Beatles Rock Band.  Brian bought it and didn’t tell me, they started playing the minute I left on Friday afternoon and basically never stopped.

I love The Beatles.  I immediately picked up the microphone and we were our own version of THE FAB FOUR for the rest of the night.

It was awesome.

I took a break from “our set” and called my parents.  “YOU MUST COME OVER AND SEE WHAT WE HAVE.  I’LL ORDER PIZZA.”  So, they did and they loved it.  Although they didn’t participate, I could see how much they enjoyed seeing this awesome tribute to The Beatles.

They now own it.

Noah’s favorite song: “Eight Days a Week.”  Anna’s favorite song: “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.”  They have learned so many of these songs that were part of my childhood and it’s just awesome.  I love it.

Unfortunately, once the kids and I went to bed on Saturday night (freakishly early, I might add), Brian had to stay up and work and work and work.  He worked until 8:30 in the morning.  I was up with the kids, eating 700 bowls of cereal, I started laundry, cleaning, etc. and then I took a nap.  It was supposed to be a 40 minute nap.

I slept for over two hours and woke up SICK AS A DOG.

This morning sickness is kicking my ass.

I essentially spent the rest of the evening, despite completing some chores, on the couch.  I ate dinner lying down, I played the guitar lying down.  I hate lying down if I’m not sleeping, but sometimes I have to do it and I can’t beat myself over it.

After watching the train wreck that was the MTV Music Awards, I went to bed, when I became very, very sick and continued to be sick throughout the night.

It was a long night.  I blame my morning sickness, for sure, for being so sick, but I also blame Lady GaGa and her freakiness.

Here I am, Monday morning, another weekend gone, but this time, I’m looking back at it and not wishing that I had done something different.  I’m accepting what didn’t go as planned and I’m loving the way it turned out because I released control.

This morning I’m still sick, but that’s okay.  I’m growing this awesome baby inside of me, with tooth buds and nails just starting to form and the cutest little bootie ever, I just know it.

It’s a wonderful life.  I’m serious.  It is.

Organize! Simplify! {a giveaway!}

September 13th, 2009

A few months ago I was contacted about having an organizing expert come to my house for a one hour consultation, the person would then talk to me about Kijiji, eBay’s free, family-friendly, local classifieds site.

I agreed to this for two reasons.  One, organization is really important to me, but I’m not really good at it, so any help would have been greatly appreciated.  The second reason is that I loved the idea that there was finally a safe website for listing items to sell locally.  Back in June I listed two couches on Craigslist, rather than being excited when people would respond to my ad, I found myself skeptical and actually scared by their responses.  I trusted NO ONE.  Especially to COME TO MY HOUSE.  Every response came across as shady.

Rather than responding to the interested parties, I hid in the corner with my hands over my ears screaming “what I have done, I listed my couches ONLINE!!  WE’LL NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN.”

Needless to say, I did not sell the couches using Craigslist.  It was then that I read that people can actually sell sex on Craigslist and I thought “you know, maybe this place needs some work, some security and maybe I QUIT IT.“  (p.s.  if you’ve used it and it was a good experience, that is awesome, I’m just overly paranoid, I’m sure.) (Not that I have anything against selling sex on online except that REALLY I DO.)

So, when I found out about Kijiji, I was very excited and instantly felt better just by visiting the website.  And honestly, I wanted to tell all of you about it because obviously the more people who know about it…the better.

Posting on Kijiji is unbelievably simple and straightforward.  I did it!  It took just a few moments, LOVED IT.

GIVEAWAY!

To celebrate Kijiji and organization, I am giving away a $100 gift card to Organize.com which may be one of the greatest websites in the history of the world.  I’m not kidding.  If you go there be prepared to be inspired and also, be prepared to go broke because the laundry sorters, the closet storage, the kitchen organization, the office supplies…GAH!  It’s beautiful.  All of it.

And one of you lucky dogs will get ONE HUNDRED BIG ONES to spend in this glorious place.  *cough*totally jealous*cough*

There are many ways to win!

1.  Post about Kijiji and this giveaway on your blog and leave the link in the comments section.

2.  Tweet about Kijiji and this giveaway on Twitter and leave the link to your tweet in the comments section

3.  TRY IT! List something you’ve been wanting to sell on Kijiji and leave that link in the comments section.

Three chances to win!

Comments will be closed on Wednesday, September 16th at 9:00 pm CST.  Winner will be chosen at random.

BEST OF LUCK!

Belly

September 11th, 2009

I’m not sure how often I’ll be sharing belly shots with you guys, but yesterday I was feeling particularly fond of my accelerated size and thought to share with you.

Before you look, please remember that when I’m not pregnant, I look pregnant, so now that I’m ten weeks pregnant AND this is my fifth pregnancy (third child), well, now I REALLY look pregnant.

But that’s okay.

Taken at ten weeks, four days.

The winner of Lovelyn’s shirt (the one she is selling to raise funds to adopt two children from Uganda) is Leanna!  Thanks to EVERYONE that participated!

Speaking of Lovelyn, she has a new style of shirt for sale in many different colors.  It’s so soft and it’s pretty, too.  (I’m wearing one right now.  I swear!  I am!)

Don’t forget, if you buy one, take a photo of yourself in it and send it to me at foldinglaundry AT gmail DOT com.  That’s an order, man.  So far the response has been huge.  HUGE!  Let’s keep that support rolling in and feel free to continue to tell your readers/facebook friends/twitter followers all about her cause.

Also, I posted over here today…

That is all.  Carry on.
