You Capture – Old Signs

By Beth
Sep 02, 2009

Thank you all so much for your patience on You Capture this week, this week has been a whirlwind and the total craziness of our schedule actually begins today, yesterday I was just preparing for it, which left me exhausted.  And in bed at 9:30.

Anyway.  Old signs, huh?  How did you do?  Whoever thought of this week’s challenge been have been inspired by something, right?  And this is true, I was inspired by driving through my town and seeing old store front signs that have been in existence for many, many years.  I had BIG PLANS to allow myself the time for a photo walk to take appropriate photos but then you know, I was in Minnesota, I was suffering from morning sickness, fatigue, laziness and then my Grandpa died, so you know, SIX MILLION EXCUSES.

Fortunately, I took some while in Minneapolis, which is a good thing because otherwise I would be showing you pictures of nothing right now…how boring.

Not riveting, but really, how riveting could old signs be, right?

So now, it’s your turn!  (I can’t wait to see what you captured this week!)

But first…………THE RULES…

1.  You can join in on this challenge at any time!  We welcome & love new participants.
2.  ONLY SIGN MR. LINKY IF YOU ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE ACTUAL CHALLENGE.
3.  Please make sure you are linking directly to your specific You Capture post in Mr. Linky (and not just your site, for instructions, go here) and please make sure you are linking back to this challenge in your post.  If you don’t abide by this, your link will be removed.  (I know, I’m so mean.)
4.  Try your hardest not to reuse a picture from your archives, the goal of You Capture is to get you moving with your camera, get creative!  Challenge yourself!
5.  Do your best to visit the other participants’ site – everyone loves the traffic, the comments and the feedback (not just you!)
6.  And finally, post as many pictures as you want on your post.

I will be deleting links for those that aren’t complying, which is annoying because deleting links is annoying.

next-week2

Photograph something (or multiple things) that you have never photographed before…the world is your oyster.

Happy Capturing!

Being tired comes with pregnancy (at various stages) and the important thing is to recognize it and get that rest! You have a lot going on right now as well.. all the more reason to take care of YOU! All the best to you and your family. I was delighted to find your blog today.

p.s. (love the theme.. with four children.. I often felt my life revolved around laundry!!)

Don’t apologize, you have had so many emotions to deal with this week, I’m sure this is the last thing on your mind! Sending prayers your way for a rough weekend, I’m sure your Grandma gave him a big hug along with the babies!

    Love the wheaties one!

Because I skim while reading, I thought next week’s topic was oysters. I was going to tell you that was the dumbest thing ever, but thankfully I went back and read it again.

  11. 11

I wish I could have captured old signs like this. There is such a beauty in how things were done ages ago. Love your pictures!!

  12. 12

    Erin’s comment cracked me up!

Please don’t ever choose oysters as the theme. That would suck.

I really like that Gold Medal Flour sign. It makes me think of Moulin Rouge. I don’t know why.

  13. 13

lol. Erin…I was thinking, well, I’ve never taken pictures of oysters….but I don’t even know where I’d get oysters to photograph. ;)

Beth…you’re allowed to be tired. ;) I have been so super busy lately (not makin a baby, but still) that my “you captures” have been far…and few between…and maybe a little bit of a stretch in the theme…

Hopefully once I’m in my house and all settled I will be back in business baby (not making a baby, but still)

So sorry to hear about your grandpa. Great job on your signs even though you didn’t get to go for that walk. Something I haven’t photographed yet, mmmm could be tough. My mom recently noticed that I would take pictures of anything and everything!

These pictures bring back such great memories for me as a child growing up with both parents working for General Mills. I got a little weapy, sorry…great pictures!
Steph probably told you that when I was a little girl, I use to pick the uncooked cherrios out of the cuffs of the bottom of my dad’s work pants. My sister and I would race to see how many we could pick out.
By the way, I left yesterday without giving you a congrats hug! I was focusing on making Gray happy and I thought about it on the way home. So, I am sending a hug to you right now…hope you felt it!

It’s been about a week since I’ve checked in on you (sad how busy I am when I can’t come to my fav sites) and WOW what a wonderful site — pregnant with tiny baby toes, baby butt, and WONDERFUL heartbeat! Congrats!! and know that I’ll be praying for you and your little babe!
Sorry to hear about grandpa…may God give ya’ll comfort this week.

  19. 19

I guess “old signs” is different from “signs of getting old,” otherwise I could photograph my face….

Something we’ve never photographed before, huh?? Wow, that’s a toughie.

I love old signs like the flour one. In the TX town where I went to college their was a grain plant on one of the main streets that had a sign that alternated blinking letters for all of the products they made. I kept thinking of that sign but of course couldn’t get a photo of it. This reminds me of that one!

    Get some rest this weekend!
