Realization

November 15th, 2009

Today…or maybe yesterday, I realized two things.

The first is that I haven’t blogged since last Wednesday night.  (what is up with that?)

The second is that we could very well have a baby, like, in just a few months.

Yesterday, I turned 20 weeks and ever since then I’ve been having some emotional celebrations going on inside my head and my heart.  It’s powerful stuff…it’s beautiful stuff.

So, the reality is that we need to make a decision about whether or not we’ll find out the sex.  At an ultrasound at 17 weeks, when the tech asked if we’d like to find out, we said “no.”   But now I’m not so sure…

We’ve got one child that REALLLLLLY WANTS A GIRL!

And the other REALLLLLLLY WANTS A BOY!  And then there is Brian and I who REALLLLLLY DO NOT CARE…but then again…

shopping and planning would be much easier knowing the gender, now wouldn’t it?

But it’s not about the shopping and planning, it’s about the baby and health and love and who cares about the rest of the stuff.

RIGHT?

We need to make a decision…I have another ultrasound approaching in TEN DAYS.

Help?  (please keep in mind that I do not think green and yellow are neutral…in my OPINION, the colors seems to lean more towards boy colors than girl colors.)

You Capture – Real Life

November 11th, 2009

So…how did it go?  Admittedly, I am fascinated with what you all have captured this week, I can’t wait to see.

I was a little on the boring side.  It’s okay, I can admit, but I took so many other photos this week, despite being sick, that I’m not going to get upset with myself about it.

This photo is my kitchen on Saturday morning after I started to feel a little better.  This was after I had cleaned for a little while (read: a LONG TIME.)  A mama being sick sure does take it’s toll on the house, doesn’t it?

And this was my view a few minutes ago.  I have been having some ligament pain, so I’m half laying down and half sitting up, it’s most comfortable sometimes.  I had just clicked on Crooked Eyebrow‘s site because she put a picture up that I took of her and this was the photo I took.  Crooked Eyebrow’s blog AND my belly!

Your turn.  BUT PLEASE…PLEASE… read the directions. Last week there were many people that did not follow the directions and it was not fun for me.  Just take a second and read through, please.  Thanks!

Cleaning hurts

November 10th, 2009

Tonight I cleaned my house, it was pretty bizarre because, well, I’m going to be really honest with you, I don’t do too much cleaning, especially lately with the sickness and the pregnancy and all of the eating that I do.

I’m just too busy.

Too tired.

And also cleaning is dumb.

But it’s not, I actually love having a clean house, it empowers me and brings me peace but yet I never feel empowered and peaceful because, again, cleaning is dumb.

But this afternoon, around 4:30 I started getting into the mood, my friends are coming over tomorrow so I thought the least I could do is scrape some of the old food off of the stove, you know, to be polite.  I started with that and something happened and I just continued to clean.

I did stop to go get Taco Bell, I hesitate to even tell you that because you’ll be like “seriously?  Are you trying to make us jealous with all of your ambition?”

After we ate (at the table, thankyouverymuch), I created a list of things for my kids to clean and handed it to them.  It was brilliant, they went down the list and cleaned up everything listed and more.  (brilliant idea.  I know.)  (also, my kids are not good cleaners so this was HISTORY TONIGHT, HISTORY.)

Anyway, while they cleaned, I cleaned and then I couldn’t stop, I cleaned toilets and bathtubs and floors and our bedrooms and downstairs and did laundry.  (sidenote: if you ask your husband to clean the bathrooms, please also specify the toilet because apparently that is easily forgotten when a husband cleans a bathroom.)

I came downstairs and swept the first floor, which is pretty big, I swept until I had a blister forming on my thumb, I’m not kidding.  (ohmygodwearesogross.)  Then I grabbed the little broom and dustpan and swept up all of the massive piles I had all over the house and I was SO HOT and SO THIRSTY and my back hurt SO BAD.

I finally went upstairs (with FOLDED LAUNDRY in my arms) and changed my shirt to a tank top and drank some water.  I came back down and swiffered and then I mopped for a long, long, long time because our floors were nasty.  (I mopped 10 days ago, what the hell?  Why are we so gross?)

Anyway, I folded more laundry and put it away and put the chairs back in the kitchen and put the rugs back down and switched loads and put the kids to bed and I sat on my bed and thought “OH MY GOD, CLEANING WHILE PREGNANT IS SO HARD, I THINK I’M GOING TO DIE.”  and I looked down at my tank top and literally saw sweat below my boobs and then I looked further down and saw this large bump that will only grow to be so much bigger and make cleaning even more difficult and I thought. OH MY GOD…

I CAN’T WAIT.

Good substitution

November 10th, 2009

We had big plans last week to have both sets of grandparents over  for a feast of food that could only be eaten with our fingers.  (fun idea?  I think so.)  On the menu?  Barbecue ribs, roasted red potatoes, cheesy garlic bread, chips and homemade guacamole, fresh veggies and dip and peanut butter cupcakes.

BUT THEN…

we got sick.  And we didn’t want to expose the beloved grandparents to this horrid flu, so we decided to make the meal a little bit more simple.

So, we ordered pizza and luckily I made the guacamole (easy recipe below) before the GREAT FLU FEST OF 2009 overtook our cozy home.  Although it wasn’t quite the feast we had prepared, it was still delicious (hello?  IT’S PIZZA!) and we had fun.  We sat in the living room using just paper towels as our plates and we played Uno and Zingo and read (a ton of) books.

It was perfect.  In it’s own special, very mucous-y, yet delicious way.

Because I’m all about the sharing, here is this recipe for fresh guacamole…IT IS YUM.

3 very ripe avacados
3 roma tomatoes (gently core inside, then dice)
1 large lime
red onion (use about a 1/4 of a cup, when not pregnant, I love it and I dice it up real nice, when I’m pregnant, OHMYGOD it’s evil and shall not even enter my home)
1 hot pepper (or jalapeno pepper) slice and dice as much as you wish.  The more you use, the kickier the guac.
Green onions (finely chopped…again, add as much as you’d like, I typically add 1/2 cup)
2 garlic gloves
1/2 a bunch of cilantro (finally chopped)
salt and pepper to taste

Mix together and dip your chips.  Enjoy!

I honestly can’t get over how much I LOVE this photo, one of the best I have ever taken.  It’s even more special that it’s my children in this shot.
