We didn’t find out with our girl. I loooooved not knowing. Finding out on the birth day was the best surprise I’ve ever had. You already have a boy and girl, so why not wait? You won’t regret it, I promise.

I am a mom to only one child and when I was pregnant I thought I wanted to find out. My OB-GYN did the ultrasound and he said he thought maybe boy but he wasn;t sure. His nurse told me, “when he’s sure, he’s really sure, so don’t go shopping”. A little later in the pregnancy, a friend who is an OB nurse at a teaching hospital invited me to come up on a Sunday and let the students do another sonogram. They thought girl, but weren’t sure either. So I bought a beautiful white bubble suit with matching booties (2 pair – one with pink ribbon laces and one pair with blue ribbon). When I delivered my beautiful son, it was the most fun we have all ever had as a family…until 9 years later when my sister and brother in law decided to do te same. So much fun!!!

We didn’t find out with either of our girls- and let me tell you- your little one (boy or girl) will wear their green or yellow and look just fantastic in it.

I’m telling you- hold out!! Not many people do it any more and you will likely have friends that are ripped off that they won’t know what you are having ahead of time but there is no greater surprise than that of delivery.

We just had our 10th (stillborn on Nov 15) but we’ve never found out any of the genders (don’t routinely get u/s though). We liked to have little family bets/guesses about gender and birth weights near the end of pg. That was part of the fun for the family to be involved with and see guessed the closest.

I only have one baby so far and we didn’t find out (although we knew she was a girl from the very beginning). My sister, who is a nurse practitioner at the practice I went to, found out accidently (why is that spelled wrong?) so she could have told us if we’d wanted to know. I’m not sure if I’d want to know with our next kids. So basically this whole comment is to say uh, I don’t know.

Definately wait! We have waited to find out for all 3 of our babies. Each time has gotten increasingly more difficult NOT to. I understand your “problem” with the older two really wanting a brother or a sister. My 5 year old son wanted a brother and my 3 year old daughter had her heart set on a sister. We still waited to find out even though it was hard. There wasn’t any disappointment from our son when he became a big brother to another sister because she was here (and pretty cute!) Also, I agree with another commenter who said that this is one of the only true surprises in life. Throughout the pregnancy we described to people who asked about finding out early like this: That it is like finding out a gift you are getting for Christmas a couple of months early. Yes it is exciting the day you find out what you are getting..but on Christmas day some of the excitement is lost, because you already know what it is. Not sure if that make sense or not..but that is how we felt. Just know that whatever decision you make will be right for your family..so excited for all of you! Praying for your continued health!

I had to know. I felt like finding out at 20 weeks was STILL a surprise. And then meeting your little one 20 weeks (give or take) later, is another surprise altogether…learning their personality, their smell, their sounds.

First – I luuuuuurrve orange. Just sayin’.
Second – I had a friend who summed it up like this: there are so few GOOD surprises in life, why ruin this one? Enjoy it! My sister chose to be surprised for all 5 of hers, and I did with Joel, plan to be with any future babies too. Clearly I am biased, but now you know why.

To be honest, I didn’t read any of the other responses, so someone else may have suggested this. My college roommate was having this same tough choice recently and instead of finding out now she and her husband asked the ultrasound tech to write it down and put it in a sealed envelope. She then hid the envelope (so her husband can’t peek early!) and they’re going to open it at Christmas! :0)
