You Capture – Reaching
ByHi there, friends!
I am feeling a bit under the weather with a sore throat but the sun is shining and the temperatures are supposed to REACH well into the sixties, so I’m going to pretend like I don’t have a sore throat today and just move on!
{should be easy, right?!}
First things first … one of my very best friends, Sarah Viola, who is probably one of the best designers I have EVER come across, graciously agreed to come up with a whole new fresh look for You Capture. I asked her, she said yes, I told her what I wanted and she delivered perfection on the first try. Love that.
So, with that – here is our new You Capture button!

Doesn’t it make you want to go pick flowers and take hundreds of photos of grass and buds and butterflies? Does me. I love it. Thank you, Sarah!
(for many of you, if you’ve taken the code directly from the sidebar, it should automatically change, if it doesn’t, by say tomorrow, you may want to add it manually yourself!) But please, do change!
On to the challenge for this week. I liked “reaching.” I certainly wish I had more energy these days to REACH for my camera but I don’t and I’m okay with that being 37 weeks pregnant.
The first thing I thought of with “reaching” was a plant I have in my office. My sister had it sent to me after we lost the twins. Since then, it’s been the coolest plant, it has babies (and the most appropriate times!) and it reaches for the sun. No matter what room I put it in or at what angle, it always turns towards the sun.
When it has babies, it’s leaves are so tiny but within days, literally days, it’s reaching for the sun, just like this:

Then this morning, I wanted to drive around and capture something reaching outside, the weather is so beautiful and driving around taking photos is one of my favorite things (when I have the energy!) So today, was a good day for it.
I spotted a wooded lot, with bare trees but not completely bare as there were hundreds of birds hanging out in these trees. I rolled down my windows and was overwhelmed by the sound filling my ears, their songs reaching out to so many of us. Many of us who drive by with our windows up, our iPods on the speakers, phones in our hands, having no idea of THE AMAZING that is taking place RIGHT HERE.
It was beautiful. Also? For the first time, I was grateful for not having any leaves yet because without them, I was able to see these birds who gave me an awesome moment to start my day; their song reaching my ears.

“A bird doesn’t sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”
Maya Angelou
So, that, my friends, is my You Capture for this week. I can’t wait to see yours!
(just to give you a heads up, I will be taking two weeks off when the baby is born from You Capture, but my friend, Keli, PHOTOGRAPHER EXTRAORDINAIRE” will be hosting for me! The details to come next week!)
{DON’T FORGET TO READ THE GUIDELINES, MAN.}

Ah! Another beautiful button!
Okay, next week’s challenge is “A MOMENT.”
Happy Capturing!

Hey! SO sorry…but I accidentally posted the wrong link. The first “Austin-Lee and the hooligans is the wrong post.” I guess you’ll have to delete it. Sorry again!
Great shots this week!
Great shots…makes me soo ready for spring!!!
ooooh the new buttons are so, so lovely!
You quoted Maya Angelou! That makes me so happy that I would make out with you right now, sore throat notwithstanding.
I love the pictures and the words. Oh, and the new button. AMAZING.
LOVE the new buttons! So fresh!
And I love your captures this week. I’ve been loving hearing the birds singing in the morning.
Hope you’re feeling better!
The birds in the trees is a beautiful photo–I love how you capture the light. Take care, eh?
I love the quote about the birds. Great captures, as usual.

again, so much to love in this post! the leaves, the naked branches, one of my fave quotes, the new button, and of course, you.
I was incredibly distracted this week, i simply couldn’t think. My shots are “reaching” at best… just not creative at all. This was my hardest challenge but you did AWESOME! Great perspective…
I don’t even have the pregnancy, but I’m still not reaching for my camera. Feeling uninspired lately. It sucks.
I’m loving all the birds that are finally making their way out! We are surrounded by cardinals, robins, and awesomeness.
Oh, all the birds! I have been really enjoying waking up to them every morning lately. That really let’s me know that Spring is coming. I love it.
Love your captures. That plant is beautiful. I do not have a green thumb for even house plants.
Spring is the most perfect time to create a new You Capture button! Thanks for the beautiful gift of it (quite honestly, I won’t be too sad to see the other button vacate my blog premises
). I woke today to the stunning, overwhelming sounds of birds myself, it was awesome and your picture goes perfectly with what I heard.
Hey! LOVE the new look for You Capture! Love that first shot of the leaves, too! I’m so enjoying doing this each week…I really look forward to it. Thanks for hosting. I AM an idiot though, and posted the wrong link, #6 – the first Austin-Lee & the Hooligans, so just thought I’d let you know so you can feel free to delete it! I reposted, #7, and that one is right. Sorry! Hope you feel better soon!
Love the new look of “You Capture”, great job!

oh, i love the angle on both of these shots. vair, vair pretty. and the new button is pretty too!
Hi! I’m new to this carnival (and so glad I found it!). For today’s contribution, I’m using a photo a good friend took, not my own. It spoke to me, and fit my words perfectly! But if that’s not ok, please let me know and I’ll remove it! I’m excited for next week’s challenge and have my own (amateur) photo for it!
Love the green leaves and the Maya Angelou quote. Beautiful!
I love your reaching shots. I am going to participate for the first time and I can’t wait! One of my most favorite things to do is drive around while the kids are sleeping in the car, and take pictures. It really is amazing what you see!

Pretty new button!
Love the shot with the birds. I’ve been hearing a lot of birds lately.. such a welcome sound!
I’m in love with the picture of those trees (and the birds that inhabit them). That’s the mental image that came to me first when I saw the theme “reaching.” I thought of the bare trees, reaching toward sun, ready for spring. And then you posted it here, captured perfectly!
Love it!
I love the shot with the tree branches…very pretty!
Also, the new button is fab! That Sarah sure is talented.
Love your new button, waiting for it to magically change on my blog.
I love the schefflera photo and I love the bare trees photo.
But most of all I love the story behind the schefflera photo – where it came from, what it stands for, and how faithfully it performs. And also, most of all, I love the story behind the bare trees and the birds that started your day.
So obviously I love your You Capture this week. Awesome job.
I love your photos and I really look forward to doing the You Capture every week! Thanks for hosting this!
Love the new buttons!!

Better late than never! I almost gave up on this one, so glad I didn’t:-)
A newbie here, linked it to my website instead of my post…wasn’t sure how to do it, think I know now. Should I leave it, or redo it? What a great idea, I enjoyed my first, You Capture.
