oh, hi blog.

By Beth

How are you, pretty blog?   I miss you.  I miss coming here daily and sharing my thoughts with you.  I miss taking photos and editing them and feeling like I must share these shots with the world.

My blog is getting dusty.  My camera is getting dusty, I sort of feel like my soul is getting dusty.  Do you ever feel that way?  That your life is so busy with the day to day activities of changing 400 diapers a day, dishes, laundry, boo-boo kisses, homework, snacks, meals…YOU CATCH MY DRIFT, that you miss the things that inspire you and drive you to just be a better person?

At the end of the day, I lay down and think “huh, I really never experienced any ‘me’ time,” which I believe is important, not just for me, but for everyone.  (including my husband, who never gets me time, either.)

This phase of newborn-ness, it’s a tricky one.  You’re so busy taking care of everything else that you, as a Mama, start to slip through your own fingers, even though you are right there.

Fortunately, I’ve been through this before and I know it won’t last forever, I’m doing my best to let go of the emails, the pedicures and yes, the showers and managing to take a deep breath and stare at these little tiny fingers, gorgeous expressions and sweet smells.

But it’s hard.  I’m starting to miss me.

and that doesn’t mean I don’t love and appreciate this guy, I’m just wishing for the best of both worlds.

Friday Morning Coffee

Friday, May 7th, 2010
By Beth

My coffee tastes a little funny today.  It’s sort of like water with coffee added to it, does that make sense?  Maybe it tastes like this everyday and I’m only noticing it today because I am so tired.

I’m about to put my S’Mores Pop Tarts into the toaster before I nurse Eli, that way I can eat and nurse at the same time.  After all of the crumbs I dropped on him when he was in my belly, he’s totally used to the crumbs now.

This morning, as I was putting Eli into the car seat to take Anna and Noah to school, Noah was watching and said “wow, Mom, Eli is growing so tall!  Good job feeding him,” he said as he patted my back.

It’s crazy, but that meant so much to me.

I’m still having nursing issues in that I’m still working on my supply.  Three feedings yesterday went like this: nurse, supplement, pump.  Every three hours.  Which is why if a neighbor were to stop by I would be like “oh, I only work here, I’m the cleaning lady, the people who live here are pigs.”  And I’d use an accent, too.

So, I finished my Pop Tarts over an hour ago, which means I finished nursing Eli and now he’s in the swing.  He doesn’t like the swing which is annoying because it’s like Disneyland in the living room but apparently he’s scared of roller coasters like his older brother, Noah.

By the way, about every five hours or so I put Eli in the swing to see if he’s changed his mind but alas, he never does.  One of these days …

I just rescued Eli out of the hell that is the swing.  When I picked him up I started kissing all over his face and wondered if he liked it.  I wonder what he would say if he could talk, probably something like “seriously, woman, COFFEE. BREATH.  and where is your boob?!”  I’m glad he can’t talk, because that would be freaky.

Today, I am leaving Eli twice.  Once to get my hair done and then Brian and I are going to go out to dinner.  Alone.  For the first time in 211 years.

I am excited.  But the thing is, in order for me to do all of that fun alone stuff, I have to clean my house because someone is coming over to care for my children and my house is DISGUSTING.  (even Brian says so, which says a lot coming from a guy who lived in a fraternity house and didn’t notice how disgusting it was.)  (I still have nightmares.)

So.  I need to go get cleaning as I was just able to put Eli in the vibrating seat, where when I turn on the vibration his body flies up in the air like “HOLYSHITOHMYGODEARTHQUAKE.”  and then he settles down and realizes AWESOME.

And now he just pooped again and he’s acting hungry.

Happy Mother’s Day, friends.  I hope it’s filled with poop and hunger and delicious kisses on your children’s cheeks.

And if your heart hurts this Mother’s Day … you are not alone.  I promise you.

You Capture – Spring {again}

Thursday, May 6th, 2010
By Beth

Hi friends, I’m so sorry for my delay and if I don’t hurry, I’ll be delayed again because this sleeping baby is stirring and he’s HUNGRY!

So, did you have fun capturing spring again?  I hope you did.  It was definitely a challenge for me simply because I really never got outside except to play catch with my kids on Friday.  (which was stupid fun, even in the hurricane force winds.)  I had to settle for finding spring in my home, which I did and it makes me happy.

This is my bedroom.  I love the bassinet.  I love the open windows, my bedspread.  I love that it feels like spring to me even on the coldest day in winter.

Today is Erin’s birthday, (her blog is currently private for now).  She sent me flowers last week to brighten my day and oh my gosh, it totally worked.  In fact, these flowers have brightened my day EVERY DAY.  (just like Erin does.)  Even this morning.

And crayons left out on the table.  The kids colored before school today.

And playing catch with Noah.  He loves to be outside.  I wish I could be outside with him more often.  He’s so silly.

So, you.  Now it’s your turn to share.

Please, read the guidelines before linking up if you’ve never linked up before, I’m a link deleter if you don’t follow the rules!  Thanks, dolls!

(Julie, one of our weekly participants could use some  love and support right now, her son was diagnosed with cancer.  Please go love on her and let her know she is not alone.)
