Friday Morning Coffee

Friday, June 18th, 2010
By Beth

Noah woke up at 8:45 this morning.  I heard him walking downstairs, sleepily, I was holding Eli, he sat next to me and asked “what color eyes do alligators have?”

hmmm….I’m not sure.  So, with one hand, I typed the question in Google and decided that maybe the answer was black.  ”Black.”

“oh…Are we going to have fun today?”  He asked.

“Don’t we have fun everyday?”

“Yes!  I’m just making sure.”

They really are having a great summer so far.  They have been so busy and played so much that last night, Anna sort of collapsed on me and started to cry because she was so tired.  Anna rarely cries and she also NEVER admits being tired.  It should not surprised you that at 9:06, little baby girl is still sleeping.

So, I’m out of milk.  I can not tell you the last time we ran out of milk.  I’m almost embarrassed that we are out of milk but we are out of milk.  So, Noah is eating dry Lucky Charms, a banana and a nutri-grain bar.  Which he thinks is the coolest breakfast ever.  “Water is the best thing I have ever tried in my whole entire life.” That’s what he just said to me.  (have I mentioned how much he loves life?  Oh my gosh, he does.)

This weekend we are celebrating Father’s Day.  I’ve decided to give Brian exactly what I would want for Mother’s Day but can never seem to get…a clean house and no dirty laundry.  TRUE relaxation.  Maybe he’ll like it, maybe he won’t.  Either way, it’s my gift.  (okay, that’s not all I’m giving him but I can’t share that, I don’t know how often he sneaks a peek at my blog!)

Speaking of Brian, he’s on vacation the next two weeks.  I’m pretty excited to catch up and cross off some of those things that have been lingering on my to-do list for a really long time and really excited for him to disconnect from work.  (have I mentioned Brian works all of the time?  Oh my gosh, he does.)  We plan to go to Brookfield Zoo and visit my sister, Sarah in Louisville.  I’m not sure what else but I do know we are going to have fun.

Everyday.  Just the way Noah likes it.

Anna just woke up and heard about the dry Lucky Charms…she’s sitting at the table waiting patiently for this special “treat.”

Happy Friday.  Happy Weekend.  Happy Father’s Day.

You Capture – Water

Thursday, June 17th, 2010
By Beth

I simply love water, but I can’t swim.  To compensate, I drink a ridiculous amount of water every single day.  Even during the night I wake up and take sips from the glass on my nightstand.  My friends call me a “water buffalo.”  (I hope this is because of my water intake and not because of my size, I better make sure.)

I love to watch my kids in water, too.  We started Anna and Noah in swim lessons two weeks ago and they love it and we are so glad they are getting this important training.  I’ve always lived by Lake Michigan.  If you’ve never seen Lake Michigan in person (or any Great Lake), it’s not just a lake, it’s looks like an ocean.  It’s beautiful and vast.

Anyway.  We were in Chicago yesterday for a fun event with a certain celebrity from a certain Pixar movie opening this weekend.  Here’s a hint:

The kids thought it was so cool the way we were walking along Michigan Avenue, along side giant buildings, then we walked through a tunnel to see this:

Chicago is magical that way.

Let’s see, here are a few other water shots:

There you go!  I hope you had a great time capturing water this week!  Now it’s your turn to share!

But remember:

1.  USE YOUR OWN PHOTOS.  I know, DUH, but apparently not everyone does.  (stealing photos from other sources is illegal, kthxbye.)

2.  DO NOT SEARCH ARCHIVES FOR OLD PHOTOS that fit the current theme.  Although we know you are proud and want to showcase your photos, please feel free to do so, just don’t link it to You Capture.  The purpose of You Capture is to get you inspired to pick up your camera.

3.  PLEASE LINK TO YOUR BLOG POST ABOUT YOU CAPTURE, not your blog.

Get down low.

I’m excited to see some new perspectives with this challenge!

Happy Capturing, friends!

At 11 weeks

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010
By Beth

Elijah turned eleven weeks yesterday.  He also had his two month appointment.  (a little bit late)  He weighed in at 12 pounds, to me he seems so unbelievably BIG, I can’t believe how quickly he’s growing.

I really mean that.  I have stopped wishing away the newborn phase (yes, I did, I admit it.) but now, oh my gosh, he is just such a treasure.  I am so excited to watch him grow up but for now I’ll take exactly what he has to offer us, which is Elijah being Elijah, at this moment.

I  can remember coming here when he was just two weeks old to tell you guys what a difficult baby he was – and he was.  SO HARD.  I was scared to come to you  because I didn’t want you to think that I was complaining about this amazing blessing in our lives, something we had hoped and prayed for for so long and here I was – COMPLAINING.

Your response was nothing short of the best thing I could have heard.  Words of support flooded my comments and my inbox, I felt so loved and mostly I felt not alone.

So, it only makes sense that I come to you and tell you the good things, things have changed drastically since that moment nine weeks ago.

-HE SLEEPS!  Not much during the day, just cat naps but that’s okay because when we are awake we can watch his amazing self when he is awake.

-He doesn’t cry as much as more.  When he was diagnosed with reflux (four weeks ago?) I was totally skeptical.  But there is now no doubt that this poor baby was just so uncomfortable.  My only regret was that I didn’t have him checked for it sooner.

-Nursing is so much better.  I plan to write an entire post, series, BOOK! (totally kidding – NO BOOK) about my nursing experience with Elijah thus far.  Although our nursing relationship is not perfect, it’s GOOD and that’s all I want.  On Sunday, for the first time in nine weeks, I didn’t have to give him a supplement!  (yesterday, I did, twice- but that’s okay!)  I’m thinking it’s a little like pushing a baby out, you get to a certain point and the baby goes back in, you push again, the baby moves, you stop pushing and he goes back in until FINALLY you get the baby over that hump and woooosh, the rest is BETTER.

-His eyes.  His eyes are some of the most captivating things I have ever seen.  I love looking into my kids’ eyes, I love that they just know to look into YOUR eyes when speaking, there’s no discomfort, it’s just the natural thing to do.  Eli’s eyes make it difficult for me to get anything done.  He just stares into my soul, it’s like we are conversing through our eyes with no words, the entire time my heart beating quickly because the beauty is overwhelming.  And he watches me so closely, everywhere I go, he hears my voice and he looks for me.  I am his Mama.  And he knows it.

-Back to sleeping, our nights are becoming nothing short of pretty awesome.  He typically goes to sleep at ten, if he can hold out that long and sleeps until four.  This morning he woke up at 4:30, he ate, I laid him down at 5:40 and then we slept until 8:25.  That, my friends, is heaven.

Speaking of heaven, I am missing James and Jake.  Watching Eli grow is bittersweet and I am reminded of what we don’t get to see with James and Jake.  However, James and Jake help me remember how BLESSED we are to have this family.  Every single one of us helps to create our own little heaven on earth.

It’s powerful.  And painfully beautiful.

I’m wondering

Are you watching the World Cup soccer game?

We are.  I was pretty confused by this since we don’t watch soccer but then all of a sudden a bunch of hot guys flooded the field and I was all like “when will they air the reruns?”

So, I posted over here about having another child.  Join me for the conversation, won’t you?

And look at how positively stunning he is.  We love him.  A LOT.  (and we think he loves us, too.  A LOT)
