Friday Morning Coffee

August 27th, 2010

I’m drinking coffee out of my favorite red cup.  I think it’s really strong, so I’m drinking it slowly.

This morning I took a picture of all 3 kids that I am certain I will hold onto forever and ever.  It’s the type of picture that they’ll look at when they’re twenty and be like “why did you paint your walls that color?  That quilt is CRAZY!”  You know how you see old photos and everything is out of date?

I just put Eli down for a nap.  I still can’t identify what his cries are, which is sad considering he’ll be five months old this weekend.  (how did that happen?)  Just now I figured he would be hungry, so I shoved my breasts into his mouth and he cried and screamed (which, unfortunately, is totally typical these days), so, like a fool, I tried the other, he FINALLY took it, then started crying again.  I sat him up on my shoulder and he fell asleep.

He was tired.  Not hungry.  Which makes sense considering he sleeps less at night these days than he did when he was two weeks old.  I wish I was joking.  Case in point:  I AM TIRED.  and well, he’s tired, too.

Anna and Noah started school on Wednesday.  It’s been a welcomed change for all of us.  They are so happy to be back and I am enjoying getting some time to work on a few things everyday.

Yesterday, I launched my new and improved Beth Fletcher Photography website.  I have been working on this project since early July and am SO HAPPY to have it completed.  I hope you’ll head over and take a look.    (tell me what you think!)  This business is so important to me.  I’ve  been taking it very seriously and hope to make it grow.  I’m really putting myself out there, which is leaving me feeling all insecure and uncertain but I feel in my heart that this is something I am supposed to be doing.  Brian feels it with me and is supporting me 100%.

I’m excited.

I’m scared.

I’m hopeful.

and I created a Facebook page here, I hope you’ll “like” it, I would appreciate it SO MUCH!

Other random thoughts for today:

-Triple W is only 2 weeks away in Chicago.  I’ll be there.  I NEED this in my life.  I think every single Mom out there needs this in their lives.

-I think my breastfeeding journey may be coming to an end…but we are still hanging in there, if only by a thread.

As always, thank you for reading.  You bless me everyday.

Happy Friday, friends.

Your new photography blog is gorgeous… I love the simplicity of it, and the background song. I’m usually not a fan of background music, but I really enjoy it on your page.

Oh, and I love strong coffee. I didn’t make any this morning because it was just “one of those mornings” when I didn’t have time. So, please take a big sip for me. Thanks!

Sometimes a thread is all you have to hang on to and that’s okay. Remember the thread is still there to hang on because you’ve made it this far, which is quite an accomplishment.
I’m so sad that Eli is making you so tired. I know how it is. It’s really hard to function or be a decent person when you’re just so exhausted. I hope you can sneak in a nap at some point today. You deserve it!

    Hey…

I am one of the ” quiet lurkers” reading your blog. Really love your photographs and are so happy that you will pursue photography, congratulations!

I just took the recommended look: The photography page looks wonderful! A very good composition to reflect the simplicity and pureness in your photography.
Upon your question of how people like it: perfect!
If just there was a button to make the music stop :) or am I just too blind to find it?

Hope this new career will bring you lots of joy and leave you with enough time to spend with your precious family!

Best wishes from across the ocean :)

Your photography is absolutely breathtaking and I so wish I was close by for you to photograph our family. When and if we ever make it your way, then consider yourself hired. The hubby and I will be in Ohio next weekend- how far is that from you?!!! I need to check a map, huh?!

Oh yeah, I BF #1 for 7 months (and only in the morning and at night for the last 2 months of that), #2 and #3 only got 3 months- that’s all we could do. Do what’s right for ya’ll- it’ll all be OK.

I’m excited about your business too and I know it will grow and bloom. You have an amazing ‘eye’ and I know from taking about 30,000 pictures, that vision doesn’t come naturally. It’s a gift and you’ve worked hard to hone it into incredible talent!
And you’re right. Little Eli is a challenge but I think it’s just because he’s smarter than all of us and likes to keep us on our toes. Thing is. He’s so fun to accommodate!
I love this post and I’m looking forward to watching Beth Fletcher Photography grow!

I hear you about the baby sleeping less now than when first born. My 9 month old used to get up once a night and now she gets up 3 or 4 times. Not cool! I hope this phases itself out soon!

Beautiful website. If you were anywhere remotely close to me, I’d love to utilize your talent. Unfortunately I am pretty sure that you don’t live anywhere close to the middle of Canada! Good luck!

I wish you oodles of success, you are amazing.

And I would love to see the picture you took of all the kids that you mentioned. It’s sounds awesome. =)

Olivia is nearly four months old and I’m still figuring out all her cries. I had a “is she hungry?” moment last night and turns out she was just really tired. Hang in there…I’m told it gets better.

I love the photography site and I look forward to seeing your business grow. I only wish we were closer so that I could have you take my families photo. I can do it myself, but I don’t capture what I want and it makes me sad because I get all stressed and the time ends up not being enjoyable at all.

Heading to the new photography site as soon as Im done typing this. I just have to say- about the breast feeding thing. (and since im new to your blog, I dont know if you have discussed it before- but Im going to share my feelings with you, whether you like it or not ;) . )

I wasnt able to breast feed my first- because of him. he wouldnt latch on. I tried and tried and tried. and I cried and cried and cried because we just couldnt get it. when I finally made myself ok with giving into bottle feeding- it was such a relief. people had praised breast feeding. how GREAT it was for the baby. and I couldnt do it. I felt like a failure.

Then along comes the second baby… he latched on right away. He loved to breast feed. too much. but he took a bottle too. so occasionally I would give my aching boobs a rest and let daddy feed him (i was in so much pain. no one told me how bad it hurt). then he quit taking a bottle. he would scream when you put it near him. it was me or nothing. finally at 6 months- I tried randomly out of the blue and HE TOOK IT. and that was it. I quit breast feeding at that moment. I just couldnt handle being his SOLE food source. I could barely spend time with my older son because I was ALWAYS feeding the baby.

I didnt feel bad “quitting” the second time. and if we had a third- I have to say, I wouldnt choose to breast feed. I know there are Breast Feeding Nazis out there. and I know it is reportedly better for you baby- but honestly- its more important for YOU to be happy taking care of your baby. Im not saying you should or shouldnt do it- Im just saying dont let all the breastfeeding awareness/pushing that everyone seems to do these days, make your decision for you. Your baby is better off with a happy mommy feeding him a bottle than he is with a miserable mommy sticking her boob in his mouth.

and now I will get off my baby feeding soap box :)

The site is lovely! I like how straight forward it is too, I think the pictures will draw people in and then the session and pricing information is right there so they know what to expect. When we were looking for a photographer it was so hard to figure that stuff out sometimes and it made it much less likely that I would call them to find out. Like most people I prefer to find the information on a website. :) I love the site, it’s very well done and I hope you get a lot of clients from it!

This conference sounds like an amazing experience.

The beginning of your story made me laugh so hard. When I was living at this private college in Georgia, my parents sent me a post card with Cary Grant’s face on it. Some kids walked up to me and said, “Is that your dad?”
