Friday Morning Coffee

September 10th, 2010

Well, good morning, friends!  Today is the day, Triple W Forum is here and I am so ready and so excited.  (you can follow Triple W on twitter – I’m pretty sure I’ll be tweeting from that account tonight and tomorrow, so check in, engage, unleash your happy, even virtually!)

I’m feeling a little stressed.

I have questioned every single decision I have ever made for this conference and am still trying to decide what to do.  That’s the bad news.

The good news.  I am wearing jeans that button and zip for the first time in a year.  I went shopping yesterday and bought clothing that fits and I feel sorta pretty and normal.  This morning I put my jeans on and Noah walked in and touched my jeans and said “WOW!  You look great!”  And then I put on a sweater over a tank top and his response was both awesome and borderline insulting, something like “wow, Mom, you have never looked so pretty!”

Now, I was just trying my sweater on, so I took it off but I heard him run to Anna, who was busy counting silly bandz and heard him say “Anna, you have to see Mom, she looks SO GOOD!”

He walked in and saw that I changed my clothes and asked me to look nice again.

So, you know.  THERE’S THAT.

I found out some encouraging information this week, I visited a specialist I was seeing right before getting pregnant with Eli and found out I was only five pounds away from my pre-pregnancy weight.  This is perplexing because I still have so much skin hanging out in my mid-section.  In fact, since putting jeans on this morning, I realized I need to add an extra minute (or two) in the bathroom to tuck things in exactly where they belong.

I am really hoping you all have a great weekend.  I am heading out right now to find some cute flats and then home to shower and pack.

I’m thinking about the lives lost on September 11, nine years ago.  The families whose hearts ache so much, not just on this anniversary but also every single day.  and I’m thinking about our troops and their safety as they defend our freedom and the freedom of others today and every single day.  There are so many good people out there.

I have just one question for you: if you could buy a cup of coffee for a soldier…would you?  I have an idea….

Beth, I most certainly would. I work for the military and LOVE my job. The men and women I work with and for inspire me and encourage me everyday. Maybe we could work your idea together? I

BTW – I really wish I could be at the Triple W…I really really do. Good Luck!

I’m sure my husband would LOVE a cup of coffee [Soldier for 10 years]. Loved your post! You’re so funny, hilarious, and honest! Love it! Very touching as well. Definitely a heart wrenching day tomorrow.

I would. Absolutely. I cannot make it through my day with 8th graders without a cup of coffee, so someone in training or war zones or just anywhere in the military? They need coffee like eleven zillion times more than me.
p.s. it is also my fervent hope that somehow this idea involves photos of your brothers drinking coffee. Shirtless.

I would buy it by the cup, pint, quart, gallon…whatever they wanted to drink.

I’d definitely buy a cup of coffee (or bag or whatever) for a soldier. My brother is deploying (again) soon, so I’m stocking up on stuff to send.

Yep, I’d buy a cup of coffee for a soldier. Can’t wait to hear your idea … how do you have enough brain cells to have an idea with 2 kids in school, a newborn and your blog work? I have one kid and my brain is dead half the time. So please, share with us the awesome details!!!

I’d buy coffee for a soldier in a heart beat!

Also, I’m with ya on the jeans thing. I’m back in my pre-pregnancy jeans (horray!) but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get the extra tummy skin to go away! It wasn’t an issue with my first pregnancy, but the 2nd was a c-section and my body is totally different now. If you figure out how to zap the extra jiggle, let me know!

P.S. My 2 yr old son tells me when he thinks I look good too. It’s usually on a Sunday morning while I’m getting ready for church. :)

Absolutely! I would certainly buy a soldier a cup of coffee. I live in Fayetteville, NC home to Fort Bragg. I was born and raised her and I definitely see the impact of our military.

Have a wonderful weekend!!! I hope you enjoy yourself so much. And I love how Noah was gushing over you!

Anytime someone says September 11th- even if not related to what happened- I get a chill down my spine, it just doesn’t sound the same as any other day anymore. My heart aches for all who are affected by it- especially soldiers and their families. I would be HONORED to by a solider a cup of coffee, it’s definitely the least I can do. So excited to hear about your idea!!!

I sure would! Every morning, before he goes to work, I get to make coffee for my soldier. In a month, he will be deployed again and I won’t get to do that. Insanely, one of the tiny things that I’ll miss so much is making him coffee. Not only that, but I have actually worried that while he’s away, he won’t get a decent cup. You know, one of the small silly things I choose to worry about in order to keep my brain off of the huge, scary and not so silly things.

Yes I would buy a cup of coffee for a soldier. In fact, I would buy one from each member of my family, so that is eight cups.

You had a baby a few months ago, of course you have more to adjust and arrange in your clothes. Losing the weight is only part of the process. Good for you for buying clothes that fit and make you feel good.

I would totally buy a cup of coffee for a soldier….and my mom- her birthday is Sept 11th. We are all kinds of proud of the military. Anthony was in the Army when I met him, my dad and brother and every single uncle were in the military, one of my best friend’s husband was in the Air Force…..yep, we go way back.

    Share that idea, pretty please.

Because of this cooler weather I just tried on my skinny jeans that I’ve been waiting to get into and they actually fit. It was a shock because I still have about 10 pounds to loose before I get to my goal weight. Such a pleasant surprise! Of course, the extra weight around my middle still needs to be lost, but I’m getting there. :)

And HECK YEAH I would buy a cup of coffee for a soldier! Count me in! I loves our troops! I am military proud!

I don’t comment much, but I really enjoy your blog and I am a regular reader. Just wanted to let you know that I would most definitely buy a cup of coffee for a soldier (heck, I already do, since hubby is a soldier, but that’s not the point!)!

I would always buy a cup of coffee for a soldier – or a sailor, like my husband. He always appreciates people who thank him or shake his hand, especially when he’s traveling.

And you’re only FIVE pounds from your pre-preggo weight? That is awesome Beth!!! Way to go you.

And I think you look great too. That Noah is one smart cookie. :)

I can’t wait for your idea! Wasn’t your mom also in the service? She was my mail delivery lady in LaPorte and I loved her sooo much! My dad and brother were both military. My brother is now a civilian contractor in Kabul, should be home next month after 18 months. He has 3 kids (7, 5, 3) that are growing so fast his head will spin when he sees them! I’m game for your plan…’cuz I lurve Java G.I. Joe’s!

I cannot wait to buy my brother a cup of coffee over Christmas! He joined the Army this year and is currently doing his schooling (AIT? ATI? I now the AF calls it ‘tech school’!) I cannot wait to see what you have in mind.

Your post made me smile and laugh! I had a similar experience with my son…I wore makeup for the first time in forever, he grabbed my face, asking “What you got?” and then tried to figure out what was on my eyes! You have to love little kids :) They say the oddest things that are really meant to be compliments, but they just don’t sound like it…like “Mommy you are the biggest elephant ever!” <–my son loves elephants, so I guess it was a compliment :D

I hope you have a beautiful weekend!

I ABSOLUTELY would buy a cup of coffee for a soldier! I would do that and so much more. These brave citizens deserve our support in so many ways. So thankful for what they do, especially today.

I can’t believe 9/11 was 9 years ago. It seems like yesterday.

Yes, I would buy a cup of coffee for a soldier! They deserve that and more so do their spouses who hold down the fort while they are gone!

I love the tucking of the skin. I do a great deal of that as I have “twin skin” that really cramps my attempt at style.

I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans 2 weeks post-partum. But don’t hate me – the next three months I spent sitting with my pump all day so soon enough I was back to my maternity jeans. But now at 23 weeks I’m back to zippers and buttons too! :)
