Hi friends. I’m fairly certain that we have done “signs” before. I knew this before taking on this assignment, hoping that maybe THIS time I would get some of the really cool signs that surround us, the ones that we pass everyday without even paying attention to them…but, no such luck.
Instead, I forgot what the assignment was. Over and over again.
My brain is broken, guys. No joke.
I finally did remember, so now I can participate. *whew*
We live smack dab in between two really cool historic downtown areas, I feel really lucky about that. The family and I walked around quite a bit on Saturday, right past HUNDREDS! OF! SIGNS! but I didn’t remember until I was trying to take a good picture of my kids. I found this sign, which I like simply because I love this area.

And then, of course, there is this popular sign, which could also be known as the “WE WILL KILL YOUR WALLET” sign. But I love Chicago, so I forgive it. Mostly.

Now it’s your turn to share! But first, be a dear and read these guidelines, they’re important, I promise.
1. Anyone can join in on the challenge at anytime.
2. Please make sure the photos you use were taken for the challenge, meaning do not search your archives for an appropriate photo. The goal of You Capture is to get you out taking photos each week!
3. Use YOUR photos.
4. When linking up, only link to your You Capture blog post, not your main blog URL. (incorrect links will be deleted.)
5. You MUST link back to You Capture in your post.
6. I encourage you to visit other participants and leave comments. This is a great way to meet new friends!
{more You Capture info can be found here.}
Photographer’s choice. OH YEAH, BABY! It’s all you. My only request is that you really challenge yourself, get creative, turn off that stinky flash, open up your manual…and don’t be shy – try some creative editing! (Picnik is a great *free* website just for that!)
Happy Capturing!

I love antique stores, that’s so nice that you live in an historic downtown area.
I don’t mind the wallet killing Skyway because man, there’s a McDonald’s in the middle of the road.
Hi Beth, thanks for this opportunity to link up and meet other photographers. The tollway sign made me laugh ‘cuz I sooooo understand the wallet-busting menaces. They’re everywhere in the NE.
Which is probably where I was when I took this photo. Probably.
Hey – I think I drove by that sign too this weekend -the we kill your wallet one – HA! But I didn’t manage to get that shot. Love it!!!!
I love your first sign, and I’d love to see more of the historic downtowns! The Skyway has never looked better, but I’m definitely not a fan of being charged just to leave the city!
I love your first sign too – we do not have any historic downtown to visit, just lots of road signs. I so wanted to do signs of fall as my theme for this week but it has been raining non stop for two days, so I went with my alternative theme of signs of my daughter growing up, which I see every single day but then once in a while it hits me hard that she is changing so much.
Oh my, next week is our choice, now I shall be in agony trying to decide what to do. What I like about your themes is that they force me to try out different things.
I love your antique shop sign. Lovely!

I love these familiar signs, Beth. You always make the ordinary look so extraordinary!
loved this weeks you capture I love signs! What is next weeks, did I miss it somewhere?
Love the first shot so rustic and warm. I took a different approach to “Signs”….I didn’t find anything that really caught my eye in the traditional route so I thought I’d be a tad creative.

Loving the antique shot. It’s so… antiquey? Pretty and peaceful.

I love cool old signs like that.
I intended to get down to our dog park to take a picture of the “Scoop Your Poop” sign, but it didn’t happen.
I love the Chicago toll bridge sign. You managed to capture the entire sign – and it looks like it was a beautiful day!
Love your first shot, it has a vintage look…
I like the toll signs. Love the sky behind it, etc. Nice capture.
Love your antique sign and I’m so there with you on the tollway. We have many down here in TX.
I’m finally back and playing along with you. So glad that I am. I love your “assignments” and can’t wait to do next weeks. I’ve already got some ideas swimming through my mind.

In Colorado, they did away with the toll booth workers and now they just photograph your license plate and then mail you a bill.
You know, for the $22.50 you thought you no longer had to pay just to get to the airport.
My post this week has really given me peace. Thank you so much for helping me to look for the signs.
Love the toll bridge sign…and the antique shop must be cute judging by the sign! Antique shops here are just overpriced and full of stuff I just don’t want
When faced with the Skyway toll, or the hours of traffic delay on 80/94…I’m all about paying!! Then again I only go into the city once in a blue moon.
I’m late, but I did it! I love signs. LOVE. The best one I’ve ever seen (which was online, not in person) was a photo of a picture of a person in a wheelchair sliding down a hill with an alligator with an open mouth in the bottom. Like: watch out if you’re handicapped because a hungry gator is at the bottom of this steep hill. Not that handicapped people are funny. Neither is getting eaten by an alligator, I don’t think. But as a warning sign, it was fantastic.
Thanks for hosting each week. I took a small break but I am happy to be back in the swing!

While I love your shot of the tollway, I tend to avoid all Chitown expressways whenever possible. My new favorite is the 355 extention though. Makes for an easier trip over to 80/94.
I love how you processed the antique sign shot. Awesome!
