You Capture – Animals

Thursday, October 14th, 2010
By Beth

Hi friends.

This You Capture is brought to you by Baby Einstein.  No lie, Eli is watching it very intently but I’m pretty sure he’ll stop since I mentioned it to you.

I hope you all had a great time capturing animals.  We don’t have any pets but what I did notice, while driving around, is that there are lots of dead raccoons on the side of the road and also, the spiders this year are the size of small cats.  Both are disturbing images so I chose to NOT capture either dreadful thing.

But I remembered an old barn that I used to pass that had horses, so I packed up my chickens and we went driving through the country.  And then we picked up Taco Bell.

pretty horsies.

I tried to get his attention.  I was like “HORSIEEEEEE….SAY CHEEEESE.”  and “here, horsie horsie horsie.”  But then I heard a door slam and pictured a farmer with a gun taking aim at me and I shoved off.

So, it’s a camera shy horse.  You are welcome.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m off to buy every single Baby Einstein video ever made because HE IS STILL WATCHING OHMYGOD.

Now it’s your turn to share!

So much to say.

It’s never my intention to not stop in and write a little something on my blog.  I really enjoy blogging which is the only reason why I do it.  I love that I don’t feel like I have to post because advertisers expect me to.  I love that I am the editor-in-chief.  I love that I make the decisions on how, when, where…

but mostly what I love is having a relationship between my readers.  The rest of the stuff is just icing on the cake.

I don’t have much to tell you except I have SO MUCH to tell you.  Anna lost her first top tooth the other day and she looks so old, Noah told me he really likes it when people compliment his behavior, I held my mini-sessions on Saturday and had so much fun that I can’t believe I get to do this for a living, Brian keeps being supportive and amazing and is somehow becoming funnier every single day.  My house is messy and I clean it and it gets messy again.  Every minute of my life is taken up with something.  Eli is growing and makes the best noises with his mouth.  He pops his lips and he says “MAMAMAMA…MOM!”  Oh, it’s cute.

But my heart and my brain go back to the other night when I was having dinner with my soul sister.  Her cell phone rang and it was Brian.  MY HUSBAND.  Eli had fallen out of the highchair and he was in the emergency room.

My body was cold and shocked and so scared. so scared.  He had fallen onto his head, nothing to break his baby boy fall.

The tray of the highchair feels secure, it makes a noise like it’s latched, you get the sense of security but what we didn’t know is that when it’s pushed on from the babies’ side, it falls.  To the floor.

And baby follows.

Eli seems to be okay.  We are in the midst of our observation period (which gives us parents so much responsibility to WATCH EVERYTHING.)  His poor forehead is swollen and black and blue, his eye swollen.

I’m so sad for him and I’m so sad for my husband’s heart, who was just making dinner for the older kids when it happened but can’t help but to blame himself.

It is so not his fault.

I’m trying not to be angry at myself for being selfish and taking time to be with my best friend.

I’m just trying to ONLY be grateful that he’s back to popping his lips, saying “MAMAMAMA” and to have the responsibility to watch this precious, amazing, beautiful little boy all day long.

So, I’m here.

I’m just busy.

Friday Morning Coffee

Friday, October 8th, 2010
By Beth

Today is such a strange day.  You know how that is?  Where everything is just different from every other day?  Noah is home sick today, except I’m not sure if he’s really that sick but he had a fever last night so I’m following the “when to keep your kids at home” guidelines.  He also has a headache.

Brian is home from work today, he’s working remotely to help me with Eli so I can get some much needed work done.

And Eli is sleeping right now which is really good because last night he did not sleep well.  He has four teeth trying to rupture out of his gums, so maybe that’s the problem?  Maybe he has a sore throat?  Maybe he has a gas bubble in his belly that won’t subside?  Maybe he thinks sleeping is dumb?  Whatever it is, I wish he would feel better.

Eli’s new thing is eating my chin, whenever he can.  And if he can’t, he’ll eat my nose and if he can’t do either, he’ll scratch me with this Freddy Krueger nails.

He has also started pulling Brian’s arm hair.  Which is fun for me to listen to, but I know it’s not fun for Brian.

Last night we had many night time interruptions.  Typically, Anna and Noah sleep soundly throughout the entire night but not last night.  At one point, Eli was awake, I nursed him back to sleep (after Brian tried to get him to settle), I laid him in his crib, laid down on my crisp, cool sheets, probably moaned and stretched out my legs and then I felt a tapping on my shoulder.

“Mom.  I had a dream about two beetles.”

At least, I’m assuming Noah meant beetles, as in the insects, and not Beatles as in McCartney and Lennon but with him, you just never know.  I walked him back to bed and heard Eli crying again.  I sat with Eli in his room and heard Brian up talking to a child in the bathroom.  It went on for quite awhile.  When I finally got Eli back to sleep, I, once again, snuggled back into bed and Brian said “Anna had a bloody nose.”

Anna continued to wake up through the night, Eli woke up throughout the night and you guessed it, so did Noah.

The  point of this story?  The bags below my eyes are resting comfortably on my chin.  It’s okay, though.  It’s just one night in my life that I’ll remember as that crazy night where nobody slept.

But if it happens again tonight?  I’m going to pack up and check into the local motel.  Except not really because these three babies that need their Mommy, even if it’s in the middle of the night, make me so very happy.

And coffee solves everything.

Have a great weekend, friends!

You Capture – Faces

Thursday, October 7th, 2010
By Beth

Sweet faces.  Grouchy faces.  Chubby faces.  Familiar faces.  Unique faces.  Sleepy faces. I’m pretty sure I could choose “faces” as the assignment for an entire year and never get bored of such a thing.  (don’t worry, I won’t.)

I mentioned my photo session with sweet baby Viola, check out her sweet little newborn face:

I just want to nibble her.  FOR HOURS.

And this guy?  Well, I do nibble him.  For hours.  And so does his Daddy.  And his brother & sister.  He’s very nibbly.

I love faces.

Try today

Eli-0586

I had one of those weekends that you dream about, the kind where the weather turns cold and you cozy up at home with a toffee mocha.  You burn apple and cupcake candles.  You wake up at 6:30, just to take a 90 minutes nap at 9:30.  You get along with your husband.  You laugh a lot and even watch some TV.  Your baby is content, FINALLY content.

You don’t spaz about getting things done.  And oddly enough, this makes you more pleasant to be around which makes everyone happier which makes you happier…

One of those weekends where you husband does every single piece of laundry without you having to ask.  (he even puts it all away.)

Eli-0615

At night, rather than your kids watching TV, they decide they’d rather sit on the floor with you as your play with the baby.  The baby that is growing up way too quickly.

It was good and busy.

Actually, it was the best weekend I have had in a long, long time.  No time restraints, a happy baby, a beautiful family.  It was blissful.

And it started on Friday while photographing Viola Charlotte, my best friend Sarah’s new baby girl.  She’s so squishy and feminine with big cheeks and the daintiest little fingers and feet.

Viola-Bane-WM-0414

Sarah is a rock star, she delivered her on Sunday (VBAC!), Viola weighed in at ten pounds and did I mention Sarah did it pain med free?  Whoa.

and also, OW.

and also…aw.

Viola-Bane-bw-0447

I had this thought the other day: “Tomorrow, today is yesterday.”  And it made me feel more in control of how I want to be, just saying that over and over again in my head has given me a great outlook on my day, hour…minute.

I’m trying.
