Picture the Holidays | A giveaway

November 29th, 2010

This giveaway is closed.

eclass

The winner is Amy! Congrats, Amy.

And special thanks to Tracey!

This morning, as we pulled out of our driveway to head to school, the kids counted down to Christmas, wondered what we should do for Daddy’s Birthday (today!), talked about snow and commented on the Christmas music playing on the radio.

Noah, my six year old, leaned his head back on the seat and said “man, life is so awesome.”

tree

I love that he realizes this because as adults, it’s so hard to take the time to honor life and all of the gifts it has to offer us, which is why I’m so excited about this giveaway.

You’ve probably heard of Tracey Clark, if not, here’s your formal introduction.

Friends, this is Tracey Clark, photographer extradordinaire.

Tracey Clark, meet my friends. (the friendliest faces on the internet, I do believe.)

Tracey has created a photography workshop titled “Picture the Holidays – 30 days of festive photography.”

In her words:

tracey-clark-1

I am beyond excited to be starting this e-class on December 1st but I’m doubly excited to be able to give one of you the opportunity to join in on this amazing opportunity to try to soak in the holiday goodness while honing in on your photography skills.

The class runs from December 1 – 31st. For more information about Tracey and her e-class, click here. Tracey has offered numerous e-classes in the past and has received rave reviews from her alumni. I honestly can not wait to begin. Who will be joining me?

(and if this all wasn’t awesome enough, One lucky student will be randomly selected to win a coveted Epiphanie Camera Bag! I’m pretty sure I’ll be the winner, so don’t get too excited.)

What does one need to do in order to enter?

First, you need a camera, any camera will work!

Second, I need you to tell me what you do to treat yourself during the holidays. Is it a night out with friends sharing cookies & laughter? Dinner with your husband after shopping? Sitting by the tree sipping tea after the kids are in bed…spill it. I want to know!

Third, do not say “pick me.”

Fourth, share the exciting details about this giveaway on your Facebook page, blog or your twitter account and leave the link in the comments!

This giveaways ends tomorrow night (November 30th) at 10:00pm CST. So, get busy!

And good luck!

(some comments are under moderation, if you do not see your comment pop up right away, it will, I promise!)

Am I the only guy that responded? Wha?

Anyway, my wife and I have a tradition of putting the kids to bed on the 24th and then sit on the living room floor with a total spread of wine, expensive cheeses, harry & david pears, chocolates, summer sausage, and whatever other treats we’ve collected and spend the rest of the evening snacking and drinking. Just us the treats and the tree.

My time for myself is the Christmas Eve late service at church and the St. Olaf Christmas Festival. It puts the season in perspective for me.

The husband and I love to sprawl out on the couch after the kids are in bed to catch up on us time! There’s just something about staring at the Christmas tree that makes for great conversation!

I spend an afternoon with just my mom. No husband, kids, or other relatives. We live states away from her so it is a rare treat.

Wow. This might just be the class I need to get my photography mojo back. I’ve been neglecting it too long for other crafts.

Anyway, In my family, we always have a Christmas cookie decorating contest. I usually don’t win, but it’s always fun, and we’ve been known to push the limits of what colored jimmies can do. Jimmie nativity scene. Oh yes.

I grew up in the most amazing place – directly across the street from the White Pines Forest State Park in Illinois. My family had lived there for generations, and the park was kind of “ours” in a way that the people who came to visit it would never know or understand, no matter how much they loved it. We loved it more, and we knew it better than anyone.

I live in Colorado now, but there is one local nursery that gets a few white pine trees every year with their Christmas tree selection. They’re more expensive, and I have to go out of my way to get one, but it’s worth it 112%. White pines have long, soft needles, and there is nothing like them.

I feel like I have a visceral connection to the place where so many of my ancestors lived, and I can feel my childhood – it’s a tangible thing that I can touch and hold – when the white pine tree has twinkling lights and gifts below. It’s like *home* in so many ways.

I linked the giveaway on Facebook :) I have everything locked down there, but I’m happy to add you if you’d like to see!

This year- with a new baby- time to myself is scarce. So I may ‘go shopping’ once by myself (even if most of the holiday shopping is done!) and treat myself to lunch and an aimless day at the mall. Or maybe I’ll take a nap in my car ;)

I usually pour myself a glass of wine, sit next to the tree on the sofa and try to blog about our day ( private blog used as a digital portfolio for our homeschooling activities) It gives me real joy to look back and realize what an awesome life we have together! Thanks for the opportunity!
