I like the sound of the title of this post because it sounds all “football-like,” which probably makes it pretty clear to you that I do not understand football, at all.
Is it 33 downs and the first yard? 33 tackles and the first to get hurt? Do they keep track of tackles in football? Because they should since that seems to be the goal of the game, right? I have no idea but I love football lingo and I also love to pretend like I understand it.
Obviously.
But no, actually. The title is that today I am 33 weeks pregnant and today was also the first day of school for Anna and Noah.
Each event is equally exciting to me but I think Anna and Noah would strongly disagree. I base this on the fact that they woke up right on time and had eaten breakfast, brushed their teeth, gotten dressed, brushed their hair and put on their backpacks in just 14 seconds.
Excitement for their first day does not quite properly express how they were feeling about today.

We were ready for this day. The kids had had enough of summer, it’s become obvious these last 10 days or so. Every night they’d dream of going school shopping and then going to school. “I wish school started today.” I only heard this 423 times. But I loved hearing it because I love that they love school.
Last night, I was able to take two pain killers and actually felt somewhat normal. We got ready for school, did showers, cleaned up the house, read books and tucked the kids in their new shared room. Nothing spectacular happened except the feeling of routine returned and I really liked it.

I’ve never wished away summer. Never couldn’t wait until they returned to school and I honestly hope I never do. So, back-to-school is always bittersweet for me. (mostly bitter because it hurts my wallet. OMG.) But sweet because I’m able to watch these children grow up and observe, socialize and learn every single day.
It’s certainly my pleasure to be able to watch this.
I’m fully aware that someday, before we know it, we’ll be packing up their car and dropping them off at college and not only will I be longing for these days of school excitement, but I’ll also be longing for the day when going to school only meant dropping a few hundred bucks on school supplies. So, I’ll just stop complaining about that right now.

They are growing up so fast! They are both so adorable.
Also, did you make Anna’s headband? Zoe would love it if I could make her headbands. (So would my wallet.)
xx-Z
Um . . . first and 33 is possible in football. These photos, however, are impossibly cute.
They look adorable. I sent three on the bus today! Three! No tears for any of us, tho.
Steph
I just realize this morning, that I will only have one more 1st day of school photo with Violet until the first day of school will be dropping her off at college….oh my heart….
Your kids are so sweet! My boys were rotten when I tried to get them to stop for pictures this this morning
But, they were happy to go.
You can see the excitement in their eyes! Great back-to-school outfits, too.
I too feel like a minority because I’m one of the few moms who DOESN’T like when school starts. It means the end of summer… and the beginning of helping them with homework. Yuck.
They look so cute! I love Anna’s haircut! Did you make her headband? Little Miss Momma had a tutorial on those pom-poms awhile back and I made a necklace and headband…they’re so easy and fun to make! Hope you continue to feel better!
It’s so cute that they are so excited for school to start, I wish that lasted all year! I haven’t even begun school shopping yet, yes, I am the world’s biggest procrastinator!! I figure I have next week… they look really cute for their first day, I hope it goes great for both of them!
I can’t believe how big they have gotten and they are absolutely adorable. Tell them I said hi and to have a great year (and that I miss their preschool days so much).
Looks like Noah is about to be taller!!
They are so adorable and i just love how excited they are! Here’s to a great year ahead!
ahhh, they’re growing up into beautiful kiddos, beth! i know you are so so SO proud of them
I agree that back to school is bittersweet. I love school supplies and so do my daughters, so that part is fun. They are excited and love school so that part is great. It’s having them vanish from my day that’s the hard part. And yesterday, as I walked away from kindergarten, having left my last daughter in the care of the world’s best kindergarten teacher, it was definitely hard. I made it out of the school, saw a friend and lost it. Beware — letting that last one go off to the world is hard. It makes you think about your place in the world, in their world, think about how quickly time passes and how, just a few seconds ago you were 33 weeks pregnant with her. I can only imagine the embarassment I will be when college comes!
They definitely look happy!
And YAY for 33 weeks, and feeling somewhat normal.
loved everything about this post. made me smile, especially your first sentence:)
Wow, Beth, they are beautiful children! And you’re so right … college will be here before you know it and we’ll be missing these sweet days.
Glad you’re feeling better, too!
I love how excited they are for school to start. Dumb career choice: teaching an age that is most definitely NOT excited for school.
I love that first candid back to school picture – it’s great! Our first day was yesterday, and my girls were also up and ready way earlier than necessary because they were so excited. I’m sure it will wear off next week, but it was nice for the first couple days. One of my favorite things about back to school is the return to routine – much easier for the baby, too!
