I’m not necessarily prepared to show you guys a Grand Room Reveal of the kids new shared room because once I took photos, I saw that one of their beds was poorly made, one of their new bedspreads was actually not on the bed, but an old, unmatching one, also, there was a fan in the middle of the room. And in every photo, at every angle, ALL YOU SEE IS FAN.
While taking the photos, I’ll be honest, I noticed these minor imperfections and I was all “I’m 35 weeks pregnant, I DO NOT CARE.”
And then I downloaded the pictures and yes, I care.
Very, very much.
So, to backtrack, for all of their lives, Anna and Noah have had their own rooms. We have a four bedroom house. We are about to have our fourth child. Some of the children were bound to share, so we decided to give Anna and Noah “the life experience” (heh) of sharing a room. When we approached them with this idea, they were all “uh, no thanks. But the offer, you know, is appreciated.” And then I said the magic words: BUNK BEDS.
And they agreed. Happily.
The trick for me was creating a space that was gender neutral BUT NOT BROWN.
This was part of the room before:

This is basically the same section, after:

I found the room color on Pinterest, this was my inspiration.
I downloaded the photo to my iPhone and used the Sherwin Williams app (free!) for color matching. It was right on.
The color is called Supreme Green. It’s like a light shade of mint chocolate chip ice cream (minus the chocolate chips.) It’s perfect.
Here’s another shot, of the other side of the room:

The bird artwork above the dresser and the shelves was a project the kids and I did. I had an idea of what we could do and to watch it come to life on one beautiful Sunday afternoon with my two kids was awesome. We had a lot of fun doing it and they are SO proud of the finished project.
Here’s a peek of the during process of that project:

And you know, WE LOVE BIRDS in this house, so it was perfect for all of us.
So, there you have it. A bunch of peeks. Just for you.
Maybe someday I’ll get that top bunk made properly and move the fan and then re-clean their room and take after shots one more time which means I should have the grand reveal for you in about two years.
Just giving you something to look forward to.

What you showed us looks great! And what you describe sounds like real life.
I like the artwork! Did you use scraps from magazines and such?
I’m not pregnant and yet cannot make the top bunk properly. If you can, you’re some sort of magician.
You took away purple, I took away green.
You painted green, I painted purple.
Kinda funny.
Holy cow, babies are coming fast…
love the art project you guys did!
can’t wait to see the rest!
and i can’t wait to see that beautiful baby cooking in your belly!
really interested in why you decided to not share rooms based on gender (like a girl’s room for the girls and boy’s room for the boys)? can’t wait to see the rest of the pics!
Beth — I beautiful transition (from what i could see
). I am interested in the art — specifically how you did it, supplies, etc. What a wonderful project and it seems that it could be completed with any number of different animals, shapes, etc. Would you care to share?
Thank you,
Emily
can’t wait to see the big reveal!!
I LOVE the bird art!!!
Steph
I love the room color. It’s amazing what you can do with apps! I never thought that there would be a paint app!! I can’t wait to get a smart phone…
The birds are so cute!
A very creative art project that I am sure made them even more excited for their new room to hang their masterpiece proudly!! The room looks wonderful and I love the color. I look forward to seeing more pics when you can. I too, am interested in how your art project was made and also your reason(s) behind Anna and Noah sharing a room. I am in the same situation at our house with 4 girls and 3 kids bedrooms. Right now the twins share a room but always interested to hear how parents decide what siblings will share rooms if needed/wanted. Maybe a change up of sleeping arrangements is in our future one day
I hope you are feeling well and taking it easy. I am so looking forward to your Big day..I am sure the countdown is really on now!! ttyl, Mich
I love that they are sharing a room! We have our oldest two (boy/girl 7 &8) sharing as well. Mainly because when they had seperate bedrooms they were always crashing each others’ rooms. Our youngest ones (1 and 2, boy, girl) are sharing as well. I would love for them to have their own rooms, only if for napping purposes. The 2 year old takes forever to fall asleep and keeps his sister up… aah. I also love the art! I am pinning this on pinterest!
You know I love those birds. Reminds me of the one I did for my kids’ bathroom. So what di you use? Scraps of paper, Modge Podge? I HAVE to know! SUCH a cute idea…
Also, love the color of that bookcase. I may need to paint the one I have in K’s room…
Their shared room looks great form here!
Beautiful room! I cannot wait to have my kiddos share a room. Bunk beds are so fun.
Cute bird project! Love love love it! It looks professional! =)
