Late captures

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011
By Beth

Friends, please don’t be upset with me but I’m not ready to put up You Capture right this very second. I’m thinking maybe around noon time? I’m having trouble balancing everything especially since any energy I’ve had (which was minimal) has been stolen from my body and I can’t find it, yet, I’m still trying to do all of the things I need to do, like WORK (all of the time), so I’m sort of running on borrowed energy.

You Capture will be up in a few hours.

Friday Morning Coffee

Friday, September 16th, 2011
By Beth

I am actually sitting at my desk, eating pop tarts and drinking a bit of coffee. I have physical therapy in an hour and right now we are running a garage sale. We just completed hour one of 12.

I feel like a lunatic having a garage sale at 36 weeks pregnant but I just couldn’t resist it. Someone in our neighborhood took charge and placed the ad and created maps and signs and well, WE HAVE SO MUCH CRAP TO SELL.  We keep adding babies to our family and stuff that goes with them and making changes in our home and buying furniture and clothes and shoes (so many shoes) and everything is starting to crowd us out. Due to my limited physical activity, this isn’t the best garage sale it could be, but in the spring?  Watch out. I will be purging from every corner of this house. And the fact that we’ll be done having children at that point? We can get rid of the swings and the bouncies and the vibrating contraptions and finally get our basement back.

Maybe.

(and also, I really, really want to buy a flat screen TV to place above our fireplace to free up some room in our living room where our current GIGANTIC TV lives, so I’m hoping this garage sale will help fund my wishes.)

We are just over two weeks away from bringing this sweet baby girl into the world. Our days are spent trying to keep up with the house, trying to finish our unfinished projects, completing photo sessions (my last one is on Tuesday!), attending doctor’s appointments, editing photos, placing print orders, etc, etc, etc. We have been so busy. But our evenings, once the kids are tucked in their beds, Brian and I sit in our bed, sometimes watching TV, sometimes playing on our computers but after that, we lay there and just talk and dream about our family. Each of our kids and their personalities, what this baby girl will be like, how much we love her, how grateful we are to have such healthy beautiful children. I almost always end up crying. The Good Tears. The kind where the gratitude grabs your heart and hugs it so tight that you can’t breathe. And then I think about my Mom coming over and spending her days here, Brian’s Mom taking Eli and bringing us dinner and the fact that I have found the perfect, most amazing assistant in the world. I lay in bed, my pubic bone killing me, my legs throbbing, drool constantly slipping from my mouth and all of that stuff just washes itself away.

I just can’t believe how lucky we are. I can’t believe how this little baby is already blessing our lives and to think that we’ll have a lifetime of her, for us, with us? I don’t think I could be more grateful.

But I’m going to try.

Happy Friday, friends.

You Capture | Apples

Thursday, September 15th, 2011
By Beth

Hi friends.

I apologize for the delay in getting You Capture up to you. I woke up very grouchy and sweaty (so very sweaty) and then my iMac woke up all grouchy and slow, so we’ve spent the morning being cranky with each other and yelling expletives (me, not her) but it seems we are back on good terms, once again.

So, here I am. With You Capture.

Did you have fun capturing apples? I went to an apple orchard this past Sunday and all I wanted was caramel to dip the apples into, which sort of made me wish I had chosen “caramel” for the topic, rather than apples. My family easily goes through about 8 apples per day, so you would think I would have thought to capture my cute kiddies eating apples but no. Not so much.

Instead, I have photos of my client’s children with apples! Yay!

This was one of my favorite sessions.

Christensen-WM-9701

I know what you’re doing. You’re looking at her eyes, aren’t you? Well stop it. LOOK AT THE APPLES. APPLES, I SAY.

And her big brother. He was so much fun.

And then I picked a few apples and brought them home for my little apple eaters.

And now, it’s your turn to share! Yay!

Once Purple

Monday, September 12th, 2011
By Beth

I’m not necessarily prepared to show you guys a Grand Room Reveal of the kids new shared room because once I took photos, I saw that one of their beds was poorly made, one of their new bedspreads was actually not on the bed, but an old, unmatching one, also, there was a fan in the middle of the room. And in every photo, at every angle, ALL YOU SEE IS FAN.

While taking the photos, I’ll be honest, I noticed these minor imperfections and I was all “I’m 35 weeks pregnant, I DO NOT CARE.”

And then I downloaded the pictures and yes, I care.

Very, very much.

So, to backtrack, for all of their lives, Anna and Noah have had their own rooms. We have a four bedroom house. We are about to have our fourth child. Some of the children were bound to share, so we decided to give Anna and Noah “the life experience” (heh) of sharing a room. When we approached them with this idea, they were all “uh, no thanks. But the offer, you know, is appreciated.” And then I said the magic words: BUNK BEDS.

And they agreed. Happily.

The trick for me was creating a space that was gender neutral BUT NOT BROWN.

This was part of the room before:

oncepurple

This is basically the same section, after:

shared-room-one

I found the room color on Pinterest, this was my inspiration.

I downloaded the photo to my iPhone and used the Sherwin Williams app (free!) for color matching. It was right on.

The color is called Supreme Green. It’s like a light shade of mint chocolate chip ice cream (minus the chocolate chips.) It’s perfect.

Here’s another shot, of the other side of the room:

shared-room-two

The bird artwork above the dresser and the shelves was a project the kids and I did. I had an idea of what we could do and to watch it come to life on one beautiful Sunday afternoon with my two kids was awesome. We had a lot of fun doing it and they are SO proud of the finished project.

Here’s a peek of the during process of that project:

And you know, WE LOVE BIRDS in this house, so it was perfect for all of us.

So, there you have it. A bunch of peeks. Just for you.

Maybe someday I’ll get that top bunk made properly and move the fan and then re-clean their room and take after shots one more time which means I should have the grand reveal for you in about two years.

Just giving you something to look forward to.

You Capture – Summer Sunsets or Back to School

Thursday, September 8th, 2011
By Beth

Hi friends!

I hope you had success this week! It’s so important to head out with your camera on a mission, it’s not just good for honing in on your photography skills but it’s also good for your soul to be doing something towards something you’re passionate about!

My kids went back to school about two weeks ago. We are back in the same routine as last year, just trying to work out kinks with new teachers and new ways of doing things.

Mostly having to do with homework:

I tried catching a good photo of the kids before school yesterday, with backpacks and lunch boxes and cute hair but we waited a little bit too long because suddenly we heard the squeaks of the bus, so off they went.

I was so close.

But they’re still cute.

(after this shot, I delighted in the next seven hours of no one asking me to use my iPad, to play the Wii, to go to the neighbor’s house to go to the other neighbor’s house, to have a popsicle, to have a piece of gum …)

Oh and no summer sunsets for me. DANGIT.

Now, it’s your turn to share! Just please read the following guidelines firsts!

PLEASE READ THIS GUIDELINES, especially, yes, especially if you have never linked up!

Apples.

(this is ridiculously fun for me, the idea of all of us shooting the same thing. BE. CREATIVE.)
