Five months

March 5th, 2012

I can not believe Clara is five months old.

She eats a lot, she hasn’t had any solid food, yet. (although the time is coming) She’s a pretty good sleeper (at night) and she’s unbelievably smiley.

She loves to be held and walked around in someone’s arms and doesn’t really enjoy riding in the car. She thinks her three older siblings are pretty funny but no one is nearly as funny as her Mama.

She is constantly grabbing things and putting things into her mouth. She talks and coos and screams, too.

Every afternoon, she and I lie together and sleep. It feels like heaven. I often think about I should be teaching her how to sleep in her crib during the day, or how I should be drinking coffee to get through the afternoon sleepiness, I’m always worried about work and laundry and a million other things, but for just a few moments each day, I breathe her in and hold her tight and I do my best to remember that soon this won’t be possible. That there is nothing more important.

So, I lie there and I don’t let go.

But I let go of everything else.

    I can’t believe she’s five months already!!

You’re making the right choice. :) Snuggle her while you can.

Good for you for taking that time to nap with her. I used to do that with my first little one, but with two little ones now, I don’t get the chance for naps very often. Enjoy it!

And she’s so beautiful! Keep breathing her in and holding on tight. These moments fade so quickly. I cannot believe my first born daughter will be married in less than four months.

So cute! Don’t give up that time in the afternoons. Someday, you’ll be alone in the afternoon while Clara is at school and you won’t have the chance anymore. My youngest of 3 girls had 2 years of being “only” in preschool while her sisters were in “all day” school. We instituted what we called “snuggly naps.” As often as we could, we would curl up together on the couch with the tv on. One or both of us might fall asleep or we would just snuggle and relax. Fast forward to this year and kindergarten. She still likes to take snuggly naps any chance we get — like today when her sisters have an afterschool activity and I leave work early to pick JUST her up. And last week? It was Muffins & Moms in kindergarten and we could look through their journals. Apparently, they were supposed to write something about their moms. Mine drew a picture of us taking a snuggly nap and wrote that it is one of her favorite things to do. And my heart melted.

So, no, don’t give up that time with Clara. It’s well worth it!

She is simply adorable. I love the wispy baby hair.

Enjoy your quiet time with her. As you already know, it goes by so quickly.

Mine are 14 and 8 and I cannot even bribe them to nap with me anymore. ;)

Afternoon snuggles are the best…well snuggles at any time of day are the best. I so wish I could get more of them from all my girls. I get some still but not nearly enough. Enjoy, you have made the right decision, everything else can wait :) Clara is absolutely beautiful and I love her open mouth smile…and her baby legs!!
