The skinny

July 12th, 2012

Ugh. I hesitate to even call this post “the skinny” but I’m going to anyway just because it makes the most sense.

I’ve dropped a lot of weight over the past few months. I’m not going to say how much because it doesn’t really matter but it happened and now I get dressed and I’m suh-wimming in clothes that I haven’t been able to wear in a long time because they were too small.

And now they’re too big.

It’s pretty silly.

Essentially, I stopped stuffing my face. Crazy concept, right? If I’m not hungry, I don’t eat. If I’m full, I stop. (no matter how good that cheeseburger with bacon, swiss cheese and bbq sauce served on a soft pretzel roll was, OMG, so hard to leave it laying there on the plate, begging me to eat it.)

Also, I stopped eating nachos and/or ice cream in the evenings. Which makes me sad because those two items made me famous. (in the nacho and ice cream aisle.)

And it just kinda happened. I didn’t dwell on it, I didn’t stress, I just … lost. (because of those changes and also, maybe a little bit because of stress but WHATEVER, not mostly, I can promise you that.)

Anyway, now I have nothing to wear, I mean, I do, I don’t walk around naked, I just hold my jeans up by the belt loops every where I go. I’m certain that’s a cute look, right? RIGHT?!?!

So now I have the job to try to find clothes that fit and not spend a fortune except who has time? And who has money? I’ve often thought how cool it would be if the government or Oprah Winfrey or Richard Simmons would start a weight loss program, where if you lose weight and hit your idea weight and remain there for six months that you’ll get a clothing stipend. Wouldn’t that be totally motivating? Like, I can imagine Oprah, “WHAT?! YOU LOST 50 POUNDS? Here’s a gift card to Banana Republic!”

sigh.

I’m such a dreamer.

Anyway. I’ve been dreaming a lot of dresses because I don’t really wear shorts or capris and jeans are sooooooooooo 200 degrees, so that leaves me with dresses. Here are a few of my summer favorites:

All my clothes are huge and I look ridiculous. I just hate to spend money on myself. Be smarter than I am, and get yourself some things that fit. You deserve it. ;)

What a wonderful conundrum. Good for you. I think most of us could take a lesson from you. I’ll try. And I can picture every one of these dresses on you and they look amazing!

i’m in the same boat. HOWEVER, i’ve got a plan that i’ve implemented. i’ve lost 35 lbs so far and i have 9 more to go. for each pound that i’ve lost, i put $20 into an envelope. when i’m done, i will have $880 left to spend on clothes. (after i’ve kept the weight off for 4 months at least) and mr. wonderful can’t whine about it because it’s already out of the account and in my envelope. so there! ;)

congrats on losing the weight – what a great accomplishment! :)

Congratulations Beth!! What an amazing accomplishment you have just achieved. I need to take a lesson from you as well. I totally think you deserve to at least splurge on 1 or 2 or heck, all of those dresses and accessories. You would look fabulous in all of them and feel so good that it will be a great motivator in keeping the weight off. But I know what you mean about shopping, I daydream about shopping just for me but really not one to plan a day to go and when I do I always end up buying for my girls!!! Take time for you and celebrate!!!!

Do you have an H&M near you? Always a good source for inexpensive, but fun, clothes! Also, last weekend The Loft was selling ALL dresses for $25…so check it out.

So glad for you! Not because you lost weight but because you found a way to make good choices for yourself. And because you clearly still enjoy yummy indulgences, realizing it will not wreck you forever. So yea! I wish I could give you a new wardrobe because I know how awesome it is to feel good in everything you try on, but how frustrating to not be able to buy it all. Also, would love to see a picture of the skinny. :)

And all of those clothes would look stunning on you. Love all the colors and patterns. Hope you all are having an amazing Summer!

First, congrats on the weight loss!

And I love your stipend idea. As you know, I lost 50ish pounds in 2010, have kept it off…and still, 2 years later, am slooooowly accumulating clothes that fit. That first year of teaching after losing weight, a few of my students were even like “Uh, Mrs. Minivanmom, it *might* be time to buy some new clothes”

It’s just so hard to spend money on ourselves when there’s a million other things (ie 3 kids. Or 4) to spend it on, isn’t it?
