Conversations with Racecar

Saturday, April 18th, 2009
By Beth

Racecar:  Mom, I’ve never died before.

Me:  Right.

Racecar:  What happens when you die?

Me:  It means you stop living.

Racecar:  What does “stop living” mean?

Me:  It means you die.

Racecar:  oooooooooh, I get it.

Me:  That’s good because we could have gone in circles all day long.

Racecar:  Why would we go in circles all day long?

Me:  LOOK!  A BIRD!  OVER THERE!

Easterly

Monday, April 13th, 2009
By Beth

How can one holiday be so tiring?  Yesterday afternoon, Racecar and I were sitting on the driveaway at my in-laws house (it was warmish with no wind! and sunny!), he laid down on my lap and said “man, Easter is so tiring.”

He is so right.  I slept for eight hours last night and all I want to do is sleep right now.  I did do level two of the 30 Day Shred for the first time today, which was difficult but really good, I also shredded on Easter, while hopped up on chocolate and jelly beans.  (not recommended.)  What is recommended, for those of you on level one…be sure you do all of those push ups, you’ll need those arms muscles in level two.

So now, I need to do the laundry I didn’t do yesterday and clean the house  I didn’t clean yesterday, so how about I just give you some pictures from yesterday and I’ll go take a nap.  er. I mean, I’ll go do my chores.  k?  (but I’m really going to take a nap.)

The Easter Bunny brought us Mario Kart for the Wii which is just about the GREATEST GAME IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE.  All four of us are completely addicted.  If I weren’t working my way towards a Macbook, I’m certain all I’d do is play and never work.

damn responsibilities.  I love the Easter Bunny.  She’s brilliant. I wish she’d bring me a Macbook.

Brian and I are pretty much candy nazis.  When we said they could have a peep and at 8:30 in the morning to boot, they deemed yesterday as THE BEST DAY EVER.

Two years ago I would have flipped out about grass stains and holes and Racecar picking out red socks to wear on Easter.  Nowadays I realize that those things do not matter at all.

Yesterday we missed James & Jake so much, but as always we are reminded of how blessed we truly are.  so blessed.

My land of holiday – updated

Monday, December 15th, 2008
By Beth

(to those who have been on the tour already, I added pictures of the outside down below)

Happy Holidays, everyone!  Welcome to my home, it’s a new house, we like it here.  So, keep your shoes at the door, k?

Let me show you around.  BUT FIRST…let me warn you that this will probably be the most boring tour listed over at BooMama’s.  I didn’t realize just how boring it was going to be until I took one picture and thought…Okay, I’m done.

But fortunately, I walked around a little more and found a few more pieces of the holidays for you.

So, let’s get started.  Can I get you anything?  Some chili?  Some chocolate?  A blanket?  A nap?  Here at my house, we love naps.  We also love cake.

Here’s my nativity set.

Here’s a close up for you.  I’m all about hospitality.

Can you believe how cute this snowman is?  It’s from a gift exchange…Crooked Eyebrow picked it out.

This is what it looks like when you walk into my house during the day.  See the kids in the background?  Yep, they’re playing video games.  Nothing says home like The Wii.  Am I right or am I right?

Here’s the entry way at night.  I’ve never had a banister before.  And that little tree?  That was my Christmas card tree last year, but since I have 7,291,432 ornaments, I really needed that extra tree for the ornaments.  So, I hung my cards on a ribbon on the wall.  See them on the left?  If I buy any more ornaments I’ll be hanging them on the kids.  Which would be a little bit cute, really.

And my mantle.  I’ve never had one of those either, I’m pretty sure the banister and the mantle are the reasons why we bought the house.   The stockings are new and the rest of my mantle was inspired by The Nester, except it looks like nothing The Nester would do.  I’m hoping next year, she’ll just come to my house directly and decorate because nobody does it like The Nester.  Well, I’m sure somebody does it like The Nester, I just don’t.

Here’s my living room at night:

And my most favorite wreath in the entire universe:

I have some lights up outside, but last night it was raining and rain and my camera just do not get along.  So, I’ll add more pictures tonight.  or tomorrow…

____________

*It’s me again!  Here are additional pictures for you.  The first one is of the tree for Ariel’s room, which may look misshapen and a little drunk, but that’s okay.  Drunk is good.

And here’s Racecar’s, not as misshapen as Ariel’s, but definitely still drunk.

And our house.  I asked our lighting engineer, Brian, to climb up on our roof and hang lights and he just stared at me and may have called me an idiot.  I’m not sure.

Thanks for stopping by.  I loved having you here, this is my third year participating and each year it’s just as fun as the last!  Thank you, BooMama!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Love, your best friend,

Beth

Yes. But he’s four.

Monday, August 25th, 2008
By Beth

A few weeks after we moved in, the doorbell rang.  I went to the door and found two lovely boys standing sweetly in front of me.  "Can Racecar come out to play?"  (I so badly want to use real names, but Brian vetoed it…sorry!)  "Well, um…nnnnot, right now." I answered nervously.  This had never happened to me, I have never had kids come over to ask if my kids could come out to play.

I asked what their names were and how old they were, the bigger of the two spoke for both of them.  "I’m Fred and I’m 10 and this is Barney and he’s 7."

"Oh, well.  Um….Racecar is four and how do you even know who Racecar is?"
I asked.

"We met him in your backyard yesterday."  Which happened to be the same day I left Brian in charge of the kids outside while I worked inside and then I looked outside and saw my kids coming out of someone else’s back door.  It was very "twilight zone," really.   (side note: do not leave your kids with my husband.  side note to side note:  I’m totally kidding, he watches other kids a thousand times better than he watches our own.  The first side note is just for me.)

Anyway, back to the story.  (by the way, this is how I tell stories in real life, I interrupt myself and every story has seventeen side stories and before ten hours is up, I never even finish one story.)

(just ask my sisters.)

(and Brian.)

(except I never really talk to Brian because when he gets home I am typically comatose.)

ANYWAY.

I shoo’d the boys away and shut the door and called Brian and told him how cute and crazy it was that these boys came over and asked for Racecar.

And then the next week they came back.

"how old are you boys again?"  Ten and seven, they replied.

"You do know Racecar is four, right?"

"Yeah, can he come out and play?"

"Well, yes, but only in the backyard, our backyard, he’s to young to run around the the neighborhood."

So, I asked Racecar if we wanted to go outside and play and he said yes.

And off they went.

For five minutes.

Then they came back again the next week.

"Can Racecar come out and play?"

"You do know he’s four, right?"

"He is?  What grade is he in."  He asked as if this was brand new information.

"Well, no grade really, just preschool."

"How old is she?"  He asked while pointing at Ariel.  "She’s five and she goes to your school, she’s in kindergarten."

"Awesome, does she ride the bus?
"

"No."

"OH MAN, SHE SHOULD RIDE THE BUS IT’S SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN, IT’S THE BEST, WE LOVE THE BUS, WE CAN’T WAIT FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  EVERY SINGLE DAY!!!"

And then Ariel started to cry because she doesn’t ride the bus.

So, Racecar goes outside and playS and I’m in the living room and Brian’s in the office and I hear Racecar come in and say "yeah, we’ve got Guitar Hero and Mario Brothers and Wii Fit….."

I stood up…."um, what you are boys doing?"

"We are playing Wii."

"Well, unless there is a Wii in the backyard, then we are not playing Wii.  Racecar, if you want to play Wii, come inside and say good bye to your friends."

"Bye Friends," he said, without hesitation. (his devotion to Wii is deep, friends.  Real deep.)

Twenty minutes later.

Someone knocks on my patio door.  Shockingly, it’s these boys.

"Can Racecar come out to play?"

"Yes.  But he’s four."

"He is?  Is Racecar playing Wii?"

"Yes."

Racecar comes to the door.  "Hey Racecar, what are you playing?"

"Um, Guitar Hero, I want to rock and roll all night."

"Can we come in and play, we’ve never played Wii?"  They asked me sweetly.

"No."

Twenty minutes later, the boys return.

"Can Racecar come out to play."

"No, he has homework."

"But he’s only four, how can he have homework?  Can we come in and play Wii?"

Oy.

"I need lots and lots of drinks."

(I said that, not the kids.)
