Once Purple

September 12th, 2011

I’m not necessarily prepared to show you guys a Grand Room Reveal of the kids new shared room because once I took photos, I saw that one of their beds was poorly made, one of their new bedspreads was actually not on the bed, but an old, unmatching one, also, there was a fan in the middle of the room. And in every photo, at every angle, ALL YOU SEE IS FAN.

While taking the photos, I’ll be honest, I noticed these minor imperfections and I was all “I’m 35 weeks pregnant, I DO NOT CARE.”

And then I downloaded the pictures and yes, I care.

Very, very much.

So, to backtrack, for all of their lives, Anna and Noah have had their own rooms. We have a four bedroom house. We are about to have our fourth child. Some of the children were bound to share, so we decided to give Anna and Noah “the life experience” (heh) of sharing a room. When we approached them with this idea, they were all “uh, no thanks. But the offer, you know, is appreciated.” And then I said the magic words: BUNK BEDS.

And they agreed. Happily.

The trick for me was creating a space that was gender neutral BUT NOT BROWN.

This was part of the room before:

This is basically the same section, after:

I found the room color on Pinterest, this was my inspiration.

I downloaded the photo to my iPhone and used the Sherwin Williams app (free!) for color matching. It was right on.

The color is called Supreme Green. It’s like a light shade of mint chocolate chip ice cream (minus the chocolate chips.) It’s perfect.

Here’s another shot, of the other side of the room:

The bird artwork above the dresser and the shelves was a project the kids and I did. I had an idea of what we could do and to watch it come to life on one beautiful Sunday afternoon with my two kids was awesome. We had a lot of fun doing it and they are SO proud of the finished project.

Here’s a peek of the during process of that project:

And you know, WE LOVE BIRDS in this house, so it was perfect for all of us.

So, there you have it. A bunch of peeks. Just for you.

Maybe someday I’ll get that top bunk made properly and move the fan and then re-clean their room and take after shots one more time which means I should have the grand reveal for you in about two years.

Just giving you something to look forward to.

Hello, friends.

First. Idol Chat and You Capture will be switching days this week. This is entirely Idol’s fault for randomly switching days for their finale. So, Idol Chat: TONIGHT. You Capture: Thursday morning. Where it belongs and where it will be returning from now on! (now that Idol is over)

This weekend went by so quickly and so beautifully. I want to say that I loved almost every second of it. We went for walks, I had a fun session, we went flower shopping, I began transforming my front porch into a place that I LOVE. (I’ll show pictures, soon!) My sister from Nebraska visited. (isn’t so sad how being able to see someone you love who you haven’t seen in so long is just a reminder of how much you miss that person? We were only able to spend 3 hours together but those three hours were really, really good.)

We went to the park and planted more flowers, we had dinner at home and also ordered pizza.

Poor little Eli stayed sick all weekend. He had a fever we could not bring down from Friday morning through Sunday evening. Which was the reason for so many of the walks. He just loves to be out and about. Then, it broke on Monday morning. He’s still not himself but his fever is gone.

Monday morning, I had an appointment with my OB and heard the baby’s heartbeat.

I am so grateful for this weather we are having. The sun has been so generous and the breeze so soft. Eli has spent hours crawling around on the grass and pushing toys and playing with rocks.

play

Brian has been my super garden assistant. And home assistant and super Dad and he does all of the laundry. All of the time. I don’t know how he does it. So quick and seemingly effortless.

I swear this weather has been so good for my pregnancy. I’ve had so much energy and I feel great. It’s like the blue skies call me out to go for walks and that walking gives me energy to clean the kitchen or play outside or sit on the floor and play with the kids.

Bedtime rolls around and Anna and Noah are tired and cranky and unbelievably dirty from playing with friends, swinging on swings, going on bike rides and playing with Eli. We wash up and brush our teeth, they read for a few minutes, we turn their lights out and within minutes, they are sleeping.

Brian and I head back downstairs for downtime. Relaxation and ice cream.

Maybe two bowls. But who’s counting?

The best part? Summer hasn’t even begun.

So if you don’t hear from me so often? I promise. It’s a very good thing.

Again with the yellow

January 11th, 2011

Back before Eli was born and I was hugely pregnant with a giant baby trying to push himself out of my belly through my belly button, I wrote a post about the color yellow and my new love for it.

Come to find out, nearly ten months later that it wasn’t just a quick fling but a true love affair.

It’s even in my new logo, which is a sign of true love, for sure.

But I keep finding things on the internet and beyond that make me melt, yellows pillows and shirts, yellow candle holders and yellow handbags.

I wanted to share some beautiful yellow with you. You like yellow, right?

This wall art?

a simple yellow coin purse.

and OHMYGOODNESS, this chair:

I super-duper love this dutch oven, although, my kitchen walls are sort of yellow so it wouldn’t work. I’d probably paint my walls for this dutch oven, though.

Speaking of wall color. If I could paint my kitchen walls any color, I’d choose white. No kidding.

This adorable storage bench is on my very long WANT list:

It’s interesting…I love yellow but I do not have much of it. I should probably change that.

I do, however, have this scarf, it’s my favorite winter accessory!

What color do you absolutely LOVE?

Hello, couch.

November 8th, 2010

I can not get over how quickly these last 72 hours have flown by, so many wonderful things happened that reminded me over and over again how sensational life is.

My eyes are so tired, I literally keep shutting them for moments at a time but I wanted to stop in and just show you, quickly, something I love.

On Friday, my camera was delivered along with many other packages, mostly prints for clients but there was a print for me. For the longest time, I have wanted a canvas of my kids to hang on my walls but they are really expensive so I had to make sure I had just the right photo.

I found the photo and took the plunge.

When the packages arrived, there sat a big rectangle box with the canvas inside and beside it sat the box with my camera in it.

Without hesitation, I opened the canvas first and I gasped at the beauty of my children. I put it on my mantle for the time being and even tweeted a photo of it.

Eventually I opened the box that held my new camera but since opening that first box I have looked at this piece of art no less than a few hundred times.

On Saturday, I decided to step outside of my boring decorating box and heed the words of The Nester, “it doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” She is so smart. And pretty. And funny. And cute. And she smells good.

Anyway.

I believed those words and I followed my heart and I moved things around and hammered and hung and now I’m looking at this.

And it’s beautiful and I love it for about a million, trillion reasons.

finished

Oh and the pom poms are still on the mantle from Elijah’s Baptism celebration, they make me happy, so I left them up. {for now.}
