I’m about to take you all on a journey of miscellaneous, k?

First, You Capture is going to be a bit late on Monday, in the afternoon, mayhaps? I’m quite behind and have physical therapy early in the morning so my day is going to pushed back a bit. In the meantime, if you haven’t participated before, now is a great time to grab your camera and take some photos. This week’s theme is “play.” Join in! It’s great fun.

Last Thursday, I was taught how to use one crutch. I was given the instructions to practice a few times a day in my hallway.

Well.

I really, really liked the freedom of HAVING A FREE HAND, so I’ve basically ditched the other crutch about 80% of the time. I’m not sure that’s okay, I’ll confess to my therapist tomorrow but I’m hoping she’s okay with it. I’ve been able to clean and carry water! It’s amazing.

(note: this is just with a boot on. Without a boot, I still can’t bear any weight on my foot without a boot or a crutch.)

Last week, Anna and Noah started school. They were both crazy excited to get started.

Can you believe how old they are? And speaking of old, next year, Eli will be starting preschool and in just over a month, Clara will be ONE. I can’t even believe it.

And here’s something fun for you. This is Anna and Noah in 2009. This comparison is great for two things. It shows how much they’ve grown but also, in 2009, I shot that photo with a Nikon D80 (a great DSLR) in automatic. The image on the right was shot in manual.

You guys, when you can control the settings, the results will amaze you!

I’m going to be teaching a shooting in manual workshop the weekend of September 15 and 16. It’s two days and about four hours per day. I’ve taught it once and had fantastic results. If you’re interested, send me an email! I’ll post more on my photography blog tomorrow. Only four participants per class due to the one-on-one nature of the class.

So, there’s that. And I just want to leave you guys with some wise works to start off your week.

Make it happen, friends.

Miscellany

Hi Friends.

I just wanted to pop in for a few important things.

First – I’m having a You Capture Workshop this weekend on Sunday, the 22nd. This workshop is geared towards Moms with Cameras. (okay, not just Moms, aunties, too.) (and grandmas and daddies and … well, you get the idea.)

Anyway, I have four slots open, the workshop goes from 9am-11:30 am and is held in Valparaiso, Indiana (northwest Indiana). The cost is $100 but if you’re reading this and would like to attend, just email me at bethfletcherphotography@gmail.com and I’ll give you a $15 discount, you just have to contact me by Thursday afternoon!)  Click here for more information and for reviews on the workshop.

Secondly

I”m sure everyone knows my love for Clickin’ Moms. I have a discount code for anyone that is interested in checking it out. For anyone, anywhere, interested in photography, this is your one stop place. I am living proof that it can change the way you shoot. So, visit this link and use discount code: FRIEND. (it’s a referral link of mine, so be sure to use it!)

Thirdly, for you photography folk, I am looking to do a guest post on Clickin’ Moms pertaining to blogging, social media and photography, which is actually a pretty broad spectrum for me, so I’m hoping you guys can help me to narrow it down to a more specific topic. Do you have any questions you’d like to see answered? About anything? Anything at all? Feel free to share. I would really appreciate your feedback on this. (and feel free to email me if you’d like to keep your idea private.)

Okay, that’s it from me. I hope your day is beautiful.

You Capture Workshops

December 12th, 2011

Life is not

a someday thing

or a one day thing.

It is a right now,

everyday thing.

I can remember sitting on my couch while Anna and Noah would nap six years ago, I’d be on a laptop browsing photographer websites. I would be so inspired to do the same thing. I’d dream of walking into a client’s home and photographing a child, delivering a gallery to the parents and giving them something they could not have gotten anywhere else. Something cherished and beautiful, important and lasting.

I can recall sharing images with Brian. “Look at this image! Look at her eyes! They way she does her black and whites. This photo makes me cry, does it affect you the same way?”

I’d take thousands of photos of Anna and Noah. Each year, it seemed, I was able to get a new camera, something newer, faster, a bit more shiny and expensive. I can remember talking to my brother on the phone about someday opening a business.

Years have gone by.

I could have continued to just dream that dream. Instead I started to live that dream. Countless photos taken, over fifty session (many unpaid), local classes, online courses, workshops in other states.

I’m ecstatic with where I’m at, I’m looking forward to learning so much more, whether it’s through different workshops or just shooting everyday.

Although the journey has been long, it’s been worth it.

Many months ago I realized I wanted to teach photography locally. It’s missing from our area. I took a class at the local university and I learned nothing of value. I sit with moms during my newborn sessions and they ask where they can go to learn photography and I can’t give them anything.

So, I’ve decided to put these things together and teach. To take my idea and GO.

My first workshop will be held in February. It’s a photography class for Moms. Moms just like you, you have kids, you have cameras, you just want to take better photos and I’m going to help with that. (instruction on lighting, composition and how to captivate your subject. And of course, it’s open to everyone, not just mamas!) The class after that will be a two day workshop teaching DLSR user how to shoot in manual.

Check out more information here!

I’m excited. Scared. Nervous. But mostly? I’m happy. I’m happy the idea came to me, that it flourished inside of me and that I’m taking the LEAP. And maybe this will be the only one, maybe I’ll only teach to two people in my lifetime but I’m just happy that I’m trying and praying that it leads to great things and great relationships with great people.
