You Capture | Black & White

March 19th, 2012

Happy Monday, friends! I think I am going to love having You Capture on Mondays. (I hope you do, too!) It’s pretty likely that I totally forgot that You Capture is on Mondays but I will neither confirm or deny that. *cough* (but it’s very likely that a tweet from Tiffany reminded me. Thanks, Tiffany!)

I bought this owl last week in Michigan. Eli has a wonderful love for owls (and kites), so when I saw this gentle little fellow, I had to buy him. For Eli, of course. Not for me. Nope. Not at all.

When I decide to turn a photo into a black and white image, I usually tend to do them with photos that are simple with negative space, clean lines and dramatic lighting.

But sometimes it’s good to step outside of my usual rules and try something newish. So, here’s Eli with a crap-ton of business in the background. (also known as Clara Apparatusville.)

Just to set this up properly, Eli was watching Word Girl and she was asking Eli questions and he was nodding.

He’s so polite.

Now, it’s your turn to share.

PLEASE READ THESE GUIDELINES, especially, yes, especially if you have never linked up!
1. Anyone can join in on the challenge at anytime.

You Capture | Peach

March 15th, 2012

I know, I know, I can’t just post You Capture without giving an explanation as to why I didn’t post one the last two weeks. I mean, what kind of host am I? Don’t worry, I’m just as upset with myself as you are with me but I have to tell you, I am having trouble keeping up.

I’ve been doing some soul searching with You Capture, thinking long and hard for many months about it’s future and what I need to do with it. Do I scrap it? Give it to someone else? Move it to my photography blog? Why is it so hard for me to post? (besides the “I have four kids and a business excuse.”) And finally, what can I do to make it run smoother?

So, I’ve made a decision. I am keeping You Capture and I’d like to continue doing it on this blog however, I’m changing the day. I’m moving it to Monday mornings.

YOU CAPTURE WILL NOW BE ON MONDAY MORNINGS! And if Sunday is super productive, then it will be appear on Sunday evenings!

The change will begin next Monday!

On to the challenge!

Now, “peach” was the challenge a few weeks ago and I never posted it or allowed anyone to link up, so I’ll do that now!

Here’s Anna in a peach chair! I love how happy she looks in this photo!

Yesterday Brian and I traveled to Michigan to visit a few shops I’ve been dying to see. I never thought I’d see the day where I’d travel two hours just to shop at a store I’d never been to and I most certainly never thought Brian would be ever for it but we had so much fun! (and there are future trips in the future!)

I found this headband for Anna. Oh my goodness, I just love the vintage fabric. It wasn’t until we got home that I realized that it was peach. It wasn’t until a few moments after that when I realized “huh, I’m really liking that color a lot these days!”

I actually bought peaches for this challenge but they were eaten. Apparently I need to buy peaches more often!

SEE YOU ON MONDAY!

You Capture | Doors

February 23rd, 2012

Hi everyone!

I wish I could express to you how sorry I am that I’m getting this up so late but I promise you, every last moment of my day has been taken up with something. Right now, Anna and Noah are outside playing, Eli and Clara are sleeping and my photos are ready. It’s You Capture time!

I’d love to be gutsy enough to paint a door this color, or ANY color for that matter. But, I’m not. (okay, maybe not this particular color but a bright color!)

This next door is much more muted in a cute mint green. I love that you can see me doing a drive-by shot. I swear people must think I’m a psycho sometimes.

You Capture | looking in

February 16th, 2012

Oh, yeah. You Capture’s back.

I’ve missed you guys!

So, did you have fun “looking in?” Believe me, when I chose this challenge, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into – but I liked it. (sort of)

Here are my shots.

This is Eli playing with our nanny. They have lots of fun together. Clara is hanging out next to them, just chewing on her fingers and looking pretty, as usual. I found myself watching them, like a bit of a creeper but not really, just enjoying this great match in our lives. So, I picked up my camera a took a photo. I was looking in on this moment. (get it?!) Don’t worry, I warned her weeks ago that I was crazy camera lady.)
playtime

And here I am, looking in on my lonely old cupcake, the one I bought for myself for Valentine’s Day. I didn’t eat it on Tuesday because my weigh-in was yesterday, so it sad in this cold, little box for 24 hours. Yesterday, I stabbed a fork into it and took a bite. Actually, I took three bites and then I put it away. Hooray for willpower! (p.s. down 5.8 pounds during my first week of Weight Watchers!)

Anyway.

You Capture | still life

February 2nd, 2012

I am such a fan of still life photography. I just think it’s so pretty. And I love pretty.

I took this photo the other night after dinner, after sweeping, while holding Clara. I had to crank up my ISO pretty high to let the light in, luckily my camera can handle that without creating a lot of noise.
