Reality
The reality of us getting our house ready to sell, buying a house and moving has hit me today.
Maybe it's because we viewed a super awesome home last night that we LOVE. or maybe it's because Brian rented a storage unit today. or maybe it's because I started packing up toys in Racecar's room. One box down - eleventy bajillion to go.
or
Maybe it's because the kids are going to Grandma's tonight so Brian and I can get our house ready.
or
Maybe it's because my parents are coming over to help.
Maybe it's because Brian is outside cleaning the yard and making it pretty.
The list just keeps getting longer and longer and longer. And I am getting more and more excited.
and scared. Sometimes they go hand and hand.
Either way, we are getting ready.
So, where can a girl find some moving boxes in this area? Anybody know???
Anybody?
Bueller?

Usually a storage rental place sells moving boxes or I would even try a moving truck rental company.
I can't believe how fast this is happening for you all. Call me if I can help out.

Very exciting! I would hit up freecycle for boxes.

The best boxes are the boxes that fast food french fries come in. I kid you not. They are square, stack nicely, and hold enough to make it worth while, without making you grab for your aching back...unless of couse, you've lifted eleventy bajillion of them on one day.
So my suggestion is to call your local Mickey D's, BK, etc and ask if they'd be willing to hold on to the boxes their fries come in for you.
As an added plus, you can feed the twins some hot, salty, fresh from the fryer fries when you go to get them...

Another free option would be egg boxes from the grocery store...or paper boxes (as in boxes for packs of paper) from an office supply store or any office.

You can usually order moving boxes online. That's what I did. They came within a day or two, from a local place I believe.

Fast food places! The fry boxes I hear are perfect because they stack well since they are all the same size. DON"T SPEND MONEY ON BOXES...its a rip off. Also, apple boxes from grocery stores. Grocers tend to smash them early in the morning but talk to the produce people or store manager and they can be yours. Also, talk to friends with online shopping additions, like amazon prime people, etc. Freecycle is another great place. Put up a wanted add. Uhauls forums have a place specifically for people to trade boxes. You could put a cheap $5 ad in the paper for someone who's moved professionally's boxes. Just about any store's boxes. Oh, Tuesday morning could be a good place too. Good luck.

I'd check at local school's too, both cafeteria and facilities management. District offices and individual schools as they are constantly getting orders of whatever. Just crossed my mind...

The best place to get boxes for free is the liquor store or grocery store. I also think it's worth it to actually go to a u-haul or similar moving company store and buy a few boxes for particular items. I think their hanging clothing box is a good idea because you transfer the clothes into it right on their hangers.

Ask for empty ones at the grocery store.
We always have an endless supply because my husband works for a print-mail facility. The boxes that office paper come in are sturdy and just the right size.

I would try freecycle

It is SO much work getting a house ready to sell. I remember sending Alex to our parents for at least one whole weekend to really tackle some things.
I don't believe in paying for boxes either, but it's really hard to end up at the grocery store or fast food restaurant at the right time and running around with kids all over town trying to find boxes. Good luck getting places to "hold" them for you...I never had any success with that. I had some luck at sporting goods stores (as far as decent size boxes). The egg boxes from grocery stores are excellent...great size with handles. We got a ton through Craigslist. Guy just got done unpacking and we needed them to pack, so it worked out.
I will be thinking of you during this very busy time. You are right...it's exciting and scary.

Stracks. They are pretty good at giving 'em out. We also got lots from Ozinga. Concrete fiber mesh stuff comes in boxes.
Good luck on selling! Our house has been on the market since April 2006.

There is a house for sale in our neighborhood.
My mother and I will pack you up and provide child care for your entire move if you will just move closer to one of us.

My husband and I just moved to NWI from Arizona and we got a bunch of boxes off Craigslist. Go to the "Free" section, and you will see postings almost every day. You can also post and ask for them. Good luck!

Egg and tomato boxes are the best. And the grocery is usually happy to unload them. Also, I'm a big fan of copy paper boxes. They're strong and they have handles!

Check out boxes from the Dollar Stores....or maybe Walmart...I have gotten moving boxes from both those places before! Good luck to you!

Another good option for boxes is liquor stores. They are really sturdy boxes.
